Cannot Get Gizmo to Connect
« on: March 28, 2015, 07:35:41 pm »

I cannot get Gizmo on my Samsung tablet to connect to the Media Server on my Windows 7 PC. I followed the directions: the share box in Media Network is checked, there is an access key that I have correctly entered into Gizmo. Both the PC and the tablet are connected to the same network via wifi. The tablet is authorized to connect and share nearby devices. The Media Server icon shows up on the PC. I've even disabled the Norton firewall.

When I test connections to the server, I'm told that it's not accessible by the Internet, but can be accessed by other computers on the network. But when I try to connect, I get a "There was a problem connecting to the server message" on Gizmo.

It could be a firewall problem on one side or the other or both.

Disabling a firewall sometimes isn't enough.  Uninstall it to test.

Uninstalled, but still doesn't work. I'm not aware of any firewall on the tablet.

And now it works. Not sure what changed, but I reinstalled Norton and then turned off the firewall.

It sounds like the windows firewall didn't see the port used for some reason. If you run into this trouble again you can manually add
TCP port 52199
to be allowed on the firewall configuration.
