Problems splitting flac at remote NAS library
« on: March 29, 2015, 08:08:53 pm »

Good daytime.

I'm using MC20 with remote library at NAS (Synology) mounted with SMB (same bugs when using AFP)
I'm was a customer of MC19 and i bought an upgrade to 20. However MC is still unusable for me.

The one of most important features for me - is splitting flac/ape from image to tracks. I'm using Library Tools -> Rename, Move & Copy files. It's not working as intended. The bugs:
1. When using Move action - nothing happens, it was already explained here http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=79313.msg538984#msg538984
2. When using Copy action - The file is splitted, however each track has size as original image file. So if i have 8 tracks in cue and image 400mb,  as result i will get 8  400mb tracks.
3. The only way to achieve this is first to convert FLAC file to FLAC (it then splits it normally), and then use Move from Library Tools.
4. When moving files to the same folder (actually just renaming files) - Library gets updated, no files are moved/renamed.
5. When moving files to another folder and checking "Move all files in folder (including non-imported files)", it moves all other files, but not subfolders (probably this is by design, don't know..)
6. !!! The most frustrating bug: After some converting/moving i did, suddenly all my home folder just disappeared and was recreated!! The first time i just lost all my documents, images, downloads, .profile etc.. The whole user folder was gone. After that i started doing backup.. For me it's 100% reproducible when working with NAS library.. Finally i managed to filter console message and find out the first event when it happened:
file: table is full
repeated thousands times.. Tonns of events and errors of other running applications, that suddenly can't access database, etc, and then after couple of minutes:
add_fsevent: event queue is full! dropping events (num dropped events: 1; num events outstanding: 4090).
add_fsevent: kfse_list head 0xffffff821157d000 ; num_pending_rename 6

System is 10.10.2
The Mac HD is SSD actually, not Apple (tried 2 different SSD's)
My sysctl settings:
kern.maxvnodes: 263168
kern.maxproc: 1064
kern.maxfiles: 12288
kern.maxfilesperproc: 10240
kern.maxprocperuid: 709
kern.maxnbuf: 16384

My launchctl limit:
   cpu         unlimited      unlimited
   filesize    unlimited      unlimited
   data        unlimited      unlimited
   stack       8388608        67104768
   core        0              unlimited
   rss         unlimited      unlimited
   memlock     unlimited      unlimited
   maxproc     709            1064
   maxfiles    256            unlimited

This happens only and only with MC. Any other player/tool just works normally with the same NAS library..
Please help, as MC is not usable for me right now :(

Do you have folders set up for background auto-import?  (Tools / Options / Library & Folders / Configure auto-import)

If so, could you disable that and see if the problem still occurs?   Thanks.

Also, are you running anti-virus software?

The error you're getting "add_fsevent: event queue is full!" makes me think there may be some interaction between MC auto-import, anti-virus software, and a Mac indexing utility all watching the same folders.

Another thing to try - go in to spotlight settings and explicitly disable spotlight from using that drive.  It may be a collision with spotlight trying to index the drive at the same time.

Also, since it's 100% reproducible, can you give me the exact settings (maybe a screenshot) of the "Rename, Move, Copy" operation dialog that causes the problem?  Then I can try to repro here.  If you're not sure how to post a screenshot on the forum, just email it to me: johnt at jriver dot com

Also, could you backup your Media Center library and send it to me? I'd like to examine the file paths and try replicating on my system.  Thanks.

Hello!
Thanks for fast reply.
JohnT,
I'm not using any antivirus software.
Background auto-import is enabled right now, at other system with the same issue it was disabled.
Spotlight settings are default, and also i use Alfred2 software, which is similar to Spotlight.

Saying it's 100% reproducible i mean that i start doing some converting work in NAS folder, and sooner or later the wipe happens.. It's not the exact action, so i don't know how to screenshot it.

BartMan01,
Should i disable a Spotlight (and probably Alfred 2) index on drive where the library is saved? Because files itself are located on NAS as i mentioned before..

Update: Attached a library
