Duplicate tracks appear when ripping
« on: March 30, 2015, 09:48:29 am »

I've hit an intermittent problem when ripping CDs in JRiver.  For about one in five CDs duplicate tracks appear in the library, although only one file per track is created.  For some CDs only a handful of duplicates appear, but for others almost all tracks are duplicated.  The log files show nothing strange.

Has anyone else hit this problem and are there any settings I should check?

I can't reproduce this.  Maybe send me a log file after it occurs, I might find something in there.

Something like this happened to me about 3 years ago. I bought a 50 CD box set (The Decca Sound). 11 of the 50 produced duplicate tracks or did not rip all tracks. I have used dBpoweramp since then, so I don't know if the problem still exists.

John, is this the log file that JRiver produces at the end of the rip?  The problem is intermittent as I ripped two CDs without problems yesterday.

No, I mean the Media Center log file that is always generated if enabled in Help / Logging.  You can leave logging on indefinitely (it starts a new log at program startup and only keeps the current and one previous one around).  Then the next time you experience the problem, you can go to Help / Logging / Report problem.

John, the first CD I ripped created duplicates.  Of the 14 tracks 1, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 12 were duplicated.  Log file is attached,

There's a lot of auto-import going on in the log, could you give me the names of the duplicate tracks for this CD?   Thanks.

I wonder if I might have found the answer to this.  I realised that I was ripping into the same folder as before (when I was ripping with XLD), but still had this as a watched folder for auto-import.  I removed the folder from the auto-import list, ripped the same CD again, and this time there were no duplicates.

If this is the cause of the problem, should I create a watched folder just for tracks not ripped in JRiver, e.g. downloads, etc.?

Normally, auto-import won't do anything until a file is done ripping.  Even then, it won't do anything if the file has already been imported by the ripping process.  I'm investigating if there may be cases where both may do the import at the same time.

Thanks John.  I'll keep on ripping to a folder not included in auto-import for a while to see if the duplicate problem happens again.

Yes, I found that it was getting imported twice.  The next build will fix it.  Thanks for the log file which pointed me to the problem.
