Where can I find how to upgrade (not the price)
« on: April 10, 2015, 06:19:33 am »

Before starting to upgrade, where can I find tips on how to upgrade?
I don't mean the price details, but rather things like:
- when upgrading will the old version be replaced by the new one, or can they both work side by side?
- what about the database? Will it automatically be imported/converted to the new one?
- what the settings/layout? Will the new version 'adopt' / 'import' the settings and layout of the old one?

such more or less 'technical' questions to make a problemfree transition.

Oh, last but not least, when I rightclick a VIDEO_TS folder my current MC reports an error.

Is this version related and fixed in later version.
current version 17.0.189

The wiki has an Upgrade topic for MC20.

You can use multiple versions, but it is best to remove the older ones after you're happy with the newer one.

Your data will be converted and used.

When upgrading to a new major version, MC automatically imports the Library data from the old version.  It does not, however, import Settings from the older versions.

If you want to import both, simply open the old version up and make a Library Backup.  Then switch to the newer version, and restore the backup:

The Windows Explorer Shell Extensions should use whichever version of MC was launched most recently.  I'd agree with Jim, though, that once you get the new version all set up and working to your liking, best to just uninstall the older one (as you could get confused and launch the wrong one accidentally).  They certainly can co-exist side by side (so long as you don't try to run them simultaneously), but there's usually not a great reason to do this.

At the very least, you'll want to disable Tools > Options > Startup > Windows Startup on the older version, and probably turn off the Media Network server too.

Last note: killing MC20 and relaunching seems to be solution, it is launched now with the right layout, color setting and the database is available.

Maybe a small glitch in the installation..

anyway, solved.
