FLAC Support

Hi,

Will MC support FLAC?  The decode overhead is smaller, and hand held support is growing.

Thanks.

MC sort of supports FLAC already, but not fully. That is, if you locate the FLAC dll for WinAmp in the MC plugins folder, you will be able to play FLAC files. Editing tags, however, will need to be done outside MC. This is silly, since FLAC tags are the same as those for MP3 files.

If you do a search of the forum, there are several (sort of recent) threads on this topic.

Basically, the MC devs have said they have no plans to add FLAC support to MC. However, the plug-in SDK is available to anyone who wants to write one.

More accurately, I/O on the tags is handled exactly the same as vorbis comments contained in ogg files (FLAC tags ARE vorbis comments).

I may have to give the SDK a whirl.
