Webcam crashes MC
« on: April 23, 2015, 08:43:18 am »

See here:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pas.webcam&hl=de

I use the IP Webcam driver for Windows (device name: MJPEG camera)
which allows to transform any Android smart phone into a network webcam which
appears to be connected to a Windows PC.

This (virtual) camera has been setup as capture device in the TV setup of the MC server.

Playing back the channel of this device always crashes MC when you try to watch the camera's video stream.
Even a remotely connected MC client which uses the library of a different PC on the network crashes instantly
when dbl-clicking the camera's channel.

Any fix?

Yes it crashes MC for me as well when you attempt playback (but you can config the filter just fine).  Works fine in Skype.

Is yours also an IP WebCam?

My laptop built-in Webcam and desktop  FireWire one work fine.

Hi Yaobing, my USB Logitech works fine, but the crash was in testing the masterjoe app he linked to on the Android Store.  There are two parts to this App,

This Part of IP Web Cam runs on the Andriod Device as and app that does the Video Servering, and
The Windows Driver is here and then lets any DirectShow client hit the stream.  MC see's this driver jsut fine and you can config it, but it crashes immediatly when you try to play it.  I could also see nothing of use in the logs.  If I use Skype as the client it works without issue.

Thanks
Nathan

Just wanted to chime in when jmone already said what I was just about to say ;)

This cam is my favourite webcam as it is amazing flexible. For Windows the driver lets the factual IP connection disappear and the cam seems to be connected to the PC directly. So it is no "real" IP webcam due to the Windows driver. This driver works flawlessly in any other application (Windows) I have tried so far. It only crashes MC. So the reason might be found in a bug in MC?

Maybe....Yaobing is the man in this area.  FYI Yaobing, this seems to be a bit like how HDHomeRun works with a network based device and local driver.

Yaobing, here is a log and crash dump.  One thing I did see in the Log was MC was trying to build a graph for the ipcamera but was attemtting to connect the Audio Pin to my Logitech USB Cam not the ipcamera.

note: I'm not even sure there is an audio stream being sent (as in Skype you dont see an audio device for this ipcam and it uses the Logitech as well for audio).

Usually a webcam is used in conjunction with a microphone.  For now in MC we are not very smart at picking the correct audio device, but whatever is picked, usually it does not cause problem (other than having no audio).

Yeah I'm only guessing after scanning the Logs.  The good thing if you have an Andriod Phone you can try it out as well.

Unfortunately I do not have an Android device.

;)

My family switched from pre-smart-phone phones to Apple products a few years ago.

I just took a look at the crash dump files.  Just as what found out from the log files, the crash did not occur in our code.  The driver crashed.  How we triggered it, I don't know.  I wish I know how Skype does it :(
