"Move / Copy Disk file" has a strange be
« on: February 14, 2003, 12:49:51 pm »

I don't know it this is a bug or a feature, but I think it's a strange behaviour.

I want to put all my music files into 4 separate directories... one for each of my 2 subscription services (emusic and weblisten), one for my ripped CD's and the fourth one for miscellaneous tracks.

To do that, I am using the "Move/Copy Disk File" tool from within MJ8 and I have found the following strange behaviour:

If trying to move a file to a directory which already has another file with the same exact name, you get the relative warning message asking if you want to replace the existing one with the new one... hitting "NO" results in the file which you were trying to move being deleted from the library instead of simply not moving it.

Here is my sistem info:

nothing to do with MJ.
It is how Windows works: you cannot have 2 files the same name in the same folder.
If you really want to have this 2 same files in the same folder ,you have to change tags in one of them -2 or b will do.
Or you need to have artist and album folders.
Like it song"zsert" would go in the album folder and in the best of or sountrack or various folder

That does indeed sound like a bug. Logically speaking the buttons should be "Yes" and "Cancel". "No" in this context would be "Cancel" and it should roll back to the point you started (without any changes).

PS: Install build 396 and see if it does the same thing. If so copy your post to the 8.0.396 thread.

Z...it has everything to do with MJ. He said "hitting "NO" results in the file which you were trying to move being deleted from the library instead of simply not moving it"

that is a bug in MJ8, known about it for along time, it was also in MJ7

That one is fixed in MC9, if i am not mistaken

I do not think you will see it fixed in MJ8

Thank you King, Xen and Zev. I'm gonna wait to do the job after installing MC9 when it's finally released.

You are right. I did not pay attention about it.
Was on the Windows aspect of the problem.
Sorry about an half good -or half bad - answer
