MC20 Explorer - manually specify Network location ?
« on: May 18, 2015, 01:16:54 pm »

I have an external hard drive that is connected to my router.

The router software does not allow any customization, such as specifying a Workgroup, so the drive does not appear in "Network" in Windows Explorer or MC20 Explorer, so you have to type the network address manually (and then you can create a Windows shortcut).

So, is there any way to type an address in MC20 Explorer (rather than selecting it in the Tree)?

Just throwing this out there, so might not help at all ...

By any chance do you have a netgear router? The have a special command (\\readyshare from the run command box) that allowed me to map the USB as a network drive.

If not (which is probably the case as Netgear routers all have admin UIs at least) maybe your brand might have a similar tool? Wroth checking out their forums? I would imagine they would have to as I'm surprised you can not configure your router from a browser, and without a tool the USB port would be pretty worthless, especially for things like printers.

If you can type the address in Windows Explorer, you can map it to a drive letter.  Then MC can reference it via that drive letter (like S: or T: for example).  That should work fine.

I was going to suggest mapping a network drive too, if that's really the case.  But, like Arindelle, I'm pretty skeptical about gear that would not let you change that. What's the make/model of the router?

Mapping the network location to a virtual drive works perfectly, thanks.
