Link/Unlink Zone with JRemote/Gizmo
« on: May 21, 2015, 10:32:01 am »

Hi,

As I am new to JRiver and JRemote/Gizmo (android), i would like to know if it is possible to link/unlink zone on the mobil device to get for example a whole house playback (party mode).

If not is there a work around?

Unfortunatly i couldnt find an answer/topic, because i probably used the wrong keywords (sorry), but i would be very happy if someone could give a tip or a hint, how this works or where i cant find some informations.

Thank you very much in advance.

Regards

At the time of writing, Gizmo and JRemote for Android don't support zone linking. I don't know about JRemote for iOS.

It is possible to enable/disable zone linking from MCWS, though, so remotes can do this. Shameless plug: my app eos for Android (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=89392.0) does allow you to enable/disable zone linking of any remote zones you may have.

Cheers!

Hi

I have never found a way to do that (I use JRemote IOS most of the time so no go there). Other than what Soul recommends, hhat I have done is used the Teamviewer app which is free and is on Android. This is easy to set up and although a little painful to use the magnification, it helps a lot to put a "zone icon" in one of the menu bars.

Its very easy to control individual zones via JRemote. But linking and unlinking is a pita ... I'd set it up before the party and only link/unlink once when happy birthday is playing rather than doing it has an ongoing process (or have a lap top run Teamviewer might be a plan too.). Or buy Soul's app, he deserves to buy himself a couple of beers after all his hard work (no shame in that , Soul ;) )

The link/unlink zones feature of eos works well and is pretty cool.

Hi,

Thank you very much for tips. I just bought EOS. Seems pretty cool so fare yet.

But during me researchs i remember finding a thread about "a workaround", where the principal idea was to create a copy of every zone to link them permanently.

But i cant find the thread anymore. Does anybody knows how this works or has the link to the thread?

Thank you very much in advance.

Thanks for your purchase! I hope you enjoy eos.

I haven't seen the thread you're referring to, but I think that idea could work. Right-clicking on Playing Now in MC allows you to "Add Zone". You could create a new zone that is basically a duplicate of the original "Playing" zone (i.e. - uses the same device), and have that zone permanently linked to all of your other zones, with the exception of the original Player zone. Then, when you wanted to broadcast music everywhere, you would only need to play to that second zone, which you can do from any remote.

I don't know enough about zone linking to know if that will have repercussions on the other zones, though... are zone links "two-way"?

hmm I'm not sure either, I thought zone links were universal and not associated with the individual zones themselves?? can't hurt to try, though.
