Force update
« on: May 28, 2015, 01:37:31 pm »

Hi

Are there any way to force update the library? When I move a file into the directory of which JRiver is set to monitor it takes awhile before it is imported. Some times more than awhile. Are there any way to force an update - and if possible just a single folder, so it doesn't have to scan my whole library?

You can go to Drives and Devices, use the Explorer tool to located the drive or folder or file, then select it, and on the (right click) popup menu choose "Import".

There are a variety of options.  Read:

http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Import
and perhaps more relevant to your needs:
http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Auto-Import

The latter of which includes automation instructions, if needed.

Somewhat expanding on the OP question: the language of linked material is a bit one-way, as in IMPORT (sorry if I miss smth, I kinda took the tl;dr approach). Is there a way to do a true UPDATE?
Meaning detecting additions AND deletions from one location, without having to run an entire library update?

If your drive is local, the OS reports file changes that trigger import.

If your drive is a NAS, it's not as reliable.

(sorry if I miss smth, I kinda took the tl;dr approach).

Don't take the tl;dr approach. That's exactly what Auto-Import's background scanning does, as long as your files are stored on a device that supports filesystem events.

It reacts only to the files that changed, and it does handle deletions and updates to files (as long as those options are enabled).

The only reason you need to automate full scans is if you're using a NAS (often cheaper or older ones) that does not properly support filesystem events. If that is the case, you can automate the scans, but I'd consider getting a fixed storage device as well (sometimes this is fixed with more recent firmware, so check that first).

You can, if needed, also do one-off scans with all the same features of particular directories. This is covered in the regular Import article.  But you have to set these up manually, and generally running Auto-Import will have the best experience.

I'll use the weak excuse that I'm at work :). Somehow my past attempts didn't yield the desired results; I'll have to try again.
And hey, banging job in general, with the wiki!
