I wonder what they're looking at?  We aren't intentionally blocking anything.

Actually robots.txt disallows crawling bots from accessing interact, with a specific exception for Googlebot. Could ask Bob to re-visit this, I guess.

There were a lot of funky crawlers accessing it so I restricted it a bit. That was a long time ago. Could probably just open it up..

i been using it quite a bit last few months...

DuckDuckGo is an Internet search engine that emphasizes protecting searchers' privacy and avoiding the filter bubble of personalized search results. DuckDuckGo distinguishes itself from other search engines by not profiling its users and by deliberately showing all users the same search results for a given search term. DuckDuckGo emphasizes getting information from the best sources rather than the most sources, generating its search results from key crowdsourced sites such as Wikipedia and from partnerships with other search engines like Yandex, Yahoo!, Bing, and Yummly.

I'd assumed it was safe?

Duck Duck Go is the default browser search engine for several Linux browsers (midori, epiphany, and I think Iceweasel).  I'm not a fan of it myself, but it seems popular in the FOSS community.

Actually, I wouldn't be surprised to see it increase in popularity now that it's available as an option for Safari on iOS.
Of course I would prefer that Apple let us use whatever search engine we like, rather than only being able to choose from Google/Yahoo/Bing/DDG, but the fact that it's on that short list probably makes quite a difference.

I was more surprised to see that Ixquick had a description for Interact, while StartPage which uses Google did not.

Firefox on apple has it built in. just change/remove providers.

Yes, I use Firefox on the desktop.
I actually have about 30 different search engines there since I can just hit "j <term>" to search the JRiver Wiki, "w <term>" to search Wikipedia, "az <term>" to search Amazon, "y <term>" to search YouTube etc. It's extremely convenient.

On iOS—since you cannot set default applications—it is futile to try and use a browser/mail client/camera app/etc. which is not the Apple default.
Well, I do find some utility to third-party camera apps, but you are stuck with Apple's app if you want quick access from the lock screen.

So the default search engine, and the very limited selection which Apple allows you to pick from for Safari means that DDG being an option is a big deal.
