Dolby Atmos
« on: June 20, 2015, 04:01:24 pm »

HI there,

I downloaded a sample of a movie that is Atmos encoded

1080p BluRay 10-Bit TrueHD 7.1 Atmos x264

I can view the picture but am unable to hear the sound on my computer.

How can I hear the sound on this file?

Dave

Do you have bitstreaming turned on for at least Dolby TrueHD? You will need to do that for audio playback of the ATMOS soundtrack. You will only get TrueHD if your receiver doesn't support ATMOS, but will get ATMOS if it does. MC cannot 'decode' full ATMOS TrueHD, so you need to bitstream it.

Go to Tools > Options

From there go to the Audio section and you'll see Bitstreaming as an drop down menu option. Click it and select Custom and you can set it there. :)

I thought ATMOS-soundtracks should work without bitstreaming...

From the LAV filters 0.63 release notes:

TrueHD Atmos

Really just a bugfix, but maybe still worth mentioning, TrueHD streams with an Atmos substream decode perfectly in this version. Its important to note that the Atmos data is just discarded and not decoded in any way, but the lossless TrueHD stream is decoded perfectly now, while before the Atmos extension screwed up decoding.

and MC 20.0.21 release notes:

5. Changed: Red October updated to LAV Filters 0.63 (support for TrueHD discs with Atmos data

You are correct. Perhaps there's another issue with daveman's setup, then?

Did you try other files or discs with Atmos, Dave? Here's a list of films with Atmos soundtracks:
