TIFF Files
« on: June 30, 2003, 03:02:47 am »

I've just bought a Fuji camera which stores it's uncompressed images in TIFF format. MC does'nt seem to support this format and I can't use it to acquire the images from the camera.

Is there any particular reason that MC does'nt support TIFF and is there a chance of including the format in the file associations?....please !!!

thanks - Jim

There was a reason, but it expired on 20th of June. So now we don't have any excuse not to implement support for GIF and TIFF files. I will see what we can do.

That'll be another app that I can get rid of then.

Pretty soon, we won't even need M$ - JRiver will rule the world !!!

Thanks again - have a nice day

What was the reason, and why did it expire on June 20th? Some licensing thing?

See when I read his responce I thought he was joking.

"I had a reason, But it expired ...." I thought he meant his reason expired,

The compression algorithm was licensed up until June 20th.  This was the intitial reason for the devlopment of PNG but the license has expired now so Gif and Tiff can be used free of charge...

Has ther been any progress on this?  I have about 5000 negative scans in tiff format.  I would love to use MC as a photo viewer, adding folders of photos to photo "playlists".  I have several viewer programs, but the simplicity of this would be helpful...with so many images.

Thanks

Tiff has been supported by the 9.1 betas for a while.  There is a link on our downloads page.
