Is DSD conversion in MC multithreaded?
« on: July 05, 2015, 04:45:19 pm »

I was wondering if SDM conversion within MC is multithreaded or not. If not this might be a good feature to add to MC 21.

Strange because I get stuttering when converting to DSD 256 and even more on DSD512 conversions with JRiver however the HQ Player demo I have tried the DSD 256 conversion doesn't stutter, 512 still does though. Does MC do "Pipeline" SDM conversions like HQ Player or something different when using multiple cpu cores? I have an iFi iDSD Micro running off a Mid 2011 iMac 2.5ghz Core i5 Quad Core. My JRMark for version 20.0.124 is 2396 On Mac OS X 10.10.4 Partition (It might be different running from my Boot Camp partition) is this too low for conversions above DSD 128?

Are you referring to conversion FROM or TO DSD?

I am referring to PCM to DSD conversion.

Curiously enough my JRMark for the Windows version of MC 20.0.124 is 2676 using Windows 7.

That's a reasonable machine, not a powerful one.

I would say that is on the low-end for DSD conversion, and probably too slow to handle 8xDSD.
I'm surprised it seems to manage 4xDSD.

As for whether DSD Encoding (not DSD Conversion) is multi-threaded, check Windows' Task Manager to see what your CPU usage is like.
