Sonos Stereo Pair
« on: July 10, 2015, 03:58:54 am »

Maybe someone knows if it is possible to stream Music to a Sonos Stereo pair (2 Play:1) with proper left and right channel? It is interesting to see that a Sonos Playbar with satelite boxes is shown in JRiver as one System while a Sonos stereo pair Shows each Speaker individually.

Found a solution myself (for a Sonos Play1:, Sonos Play3: and Sonos Play5: Stereo Pair):

If you have created a Sonos Stereo Pair (with the Sonos SW) play any of your tracks to see if it works.
Let the song play and switch over to JRiver. Identify the Sonos Box playing your song and rename it "..... Main".
Now, if you stream your music only to that speaker the other will follow automatically.
Do not link the players. It will not work.

Hope it works for you too.

Yes, this follows what I know about Sonos devices:  You want to do any linking and assignments of Sonos to Sonos with the Sonos software.  Sonos is able to preserve timing during linking with their proprietary software.  JRiver should just feed a single Sonos and let the rest be sorted out by the internals.

If it does not work we have to separate the stereo pair and rebuild it it with the Sonos mobile application. Then choose in JRiver the left speaker, rename as Sonos-RoomX and hide the other zone speaker. If at any time the wrong speaker is chosen, stereo streaming will not work until the process is repeated. To know which is the correct speaker in the zone configuration you can look at the IP addresses by turning on and unplugging. This method works correctly also in JRiver for Mac and Sonos Play 1.
