32 bit vs. 64 bit
« on: July 13, 2015, 02:04:52 pm »

Is there a way to tell which version of MC is installed, 32 bit or 64?

I have a dual boot 64 bit computer with Ubuntu 15.04 and Mint 17 installed.  When you released the 64 bit version I converted one to 64 bit and left the other 32 bit.  Recently my Ubuntu install has developed video problems and it won't recognize my video card (Radeon 6450).  I am wondering if I accidentally installed the the 64 bit version of the latest update, 20.0.123, over top of the 32 bit version without properly removing the 32 bit version first.  So I would like to be able to tell which version is installed.

Thanks.

Also, your repositories seem to work great!

My advice in this case would be to make a backup of your libraries on both OSes, then remove MC20 using the Terminal or Synaptic. Then follow the updated tutorial for 64-bit and see if that helps. Are you using the open source AMD drivers or the AMD Catalyst proprietary drivers?

Also before following the updated tutorial, I also suggest deleting the mediacenter20.list file(s) from /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ using the Terminal as well to start clean - or you can go to that directory and drag the file(s) into the Terminal and use the sudo rm command. If there's any other list files like mediacenter20jessie.list or mediacenter20native.list just remove those files too. :)

Thank you for the quick reply.  I suspect I am using the open source drivers because I have never installed proprietary drivers.

I will follow your suggestions and see what happens.

Thanks again.

Unfortunately your suggestions didn't work, however I was able to find and install a driver pkg that that does seem to work.  Thank again for the suggestions, I do really appreciate the help.
On a side note: when reinstalling MC 20 I found something that doesn't work the way that it did previously.  I will post that in the main thread.
