Is there an easy way to do this?
« on: September 19, 2003, 12:28:34 pm »

I want to create a playlist of every song I own from a particular artist, shuffle the list, then roughly divide this list into 70 minute segments to burn on a series of CDs.

Any ideas?

Create a new smartlist using the Rules Artist and All Albums by that artist.  Then use the Limit of 70 minutes and the sorting Random.  Using Bob Marley as an example:

Artist: Bob Marley and the Wailers
Album: Exodus, Burning and Looting, Rastaman Vibration, Survival, Exodus, Legend, Uprising
Limit: 70 minutes
Sort: [random]

This only makes one CD worth of music.  I want all the music from one artist shuffled across as many CDs as it takes....

Ohh.  I missed the point.  I assume you don't want tracks duplicated across playlists either.  I am not sure how you would do that.

Add another criteria:

-[Comment]=[done]

Then, make your smartlist, like you got planned.  It'll have waaaaay too much music on it.  Select the first 72 minutes' worth, send them to your CD burner.

Then set their comment field to:  done

Start the burn.  Refresh the smartlist.  Those songs are gone, the list is reshuffled, and you can grab the next 72 minutes worth.

Just to be picky I thought I'd chip in to say that there's no need for the Albums to be included within the rule since you want all tracks by that artist..

Good point.  I just always think in terms of full albums.  Still trying to get the hang of these smartlists.
