I know that the software is still v20 right now, but how can I verify that my v21 license upgrade that I bought installed OK (a popup came up stating that it did, but I didn't see anything different within MC itself).  I'm a bit paranoid that way.

If you already owned MC20, then it didn't install (which would be pointless because MC20 is already licensed and MC21 does not exist yet).  Please read:

If you didn't previously own a license for MC20, and it now shows as Licensed under Help > About, then you're all set.

I guess that is what is strange about buying an upgrade before the upgrade is even released.  (I already own a V20 license.)

You are not the only one who is confused if that is a consolation.  I just gave up one of the 10 license recoveries just to try to install a v21 license.  Look at the positive side : learning the upgrade process makes us an experienced user in a couple of year

Don't worry about this.

The 10 license restores automatically "renew" after one year, so you'd have to use a bunch of them over the course of a year to run out.  And, if that ever happens, just come here and explain how that happened, and they can be reset for you.

That limit is to keep people from sharing licenses, not to prevent legitimate access to your license.
