Rio 500 Problems
« on: September 11, 2003, 09:05:37 am »

[moving Max1311 post here -- JimH]

Don't know if you see this as a showstopper, but Media Center 9.1.249 crashes with a Media Core error, and exits ungracefully, in the following situation:

1. Attach Rio 500 MP3 player via USB.
2. Right click and send MP3 files to Rio device queue.  (Right-click menu now has Rio device listed at top as the last action performed.)
3. Upload file to device.
4. Unplug device from system.
5. Right-click any media file in the right pane or folder/playlist in the left pane.
RESULT: Media Center crashes on any right-click action.
EXPECTED: Media Center opens right-click menu normally, whether device is still attached to system or not.

To work around this issue, re-attach the Rio and start Media Center. This stops the right-click crash from happening again, at which point you can choose some other action, which puts it at the top of the list, instead of the "Send to Rio" action. You can now unattach the Rio, and right-clicking will no longer crash the system.

Max,

Our Rio 500 is broken, but we will have one in a few days so I can try to sort this out, in the meantime....

What version of the Rio 500 Plugin do you have installed (go to Tools->Plugin Manager->Handheld->Rio 500)?

Quote
5. Right-click any media file in the right pane or folder/playlist in the left pane.

What view have you selected when this occurs?

When you disconnect Rio, do you see the following message..
"The RioPort based device is disconnected or powered off.\nPlease reconnect the player." ?

**EDIT**

Max,

Try this again with tonight's build of MC. I made some educated guesses as to what the problem might be and hopefully solved it.

Can't tell because I just realized that I get a "Rio not found" error followed by a Media Core crash by just clicking on the Tools menu.

**EDIT**: Version 9.0.06 of the plugin is installed.

"Show only Audio files" in either Album Thumbnail or Details view.

Yes.

Will do. And I'll report back on the results.

Thanks for your responsiveness! It's great that you are on top of this.

Same problem as originally described in this thread is still there in 9.1.250. Also, clicking the Tools menu throws the error "Rio not found. Please make sure the drivers are installed and player is on," and results in a Media Core error crash and ungraceful exit.

Max,

The changes I wanted you to try got overwritten in last night's build. Can you try again with tonight's build?

Thanks,

Steve

Same problem here. Can't use right click at all anymore. Same crash when I click on the Tool menu. Have to keep my Rio on and connected to avoid crashes. Did you guys came up with a solution/work-around?

IO,

Please get 9.1.251 and retest. That is the version I referred to in my last post.

Thanks,

Steve

Everything seems to be working correctly with build 251. I am no longer getting Media Core crashes on right-clicking or the Tools menu after disconnecting the Rio 500.

Thanks for fixing this! You guys are truly awesome!

IOth,

Can you give me the steps you took to duplicate the error?

There's no real steps. Transfered files to the Rio this morning, disconnected the Rio afterwards, restarted the computer later, used MC to play a video, shifted to mini-me, reverted to mega-me, went to use another program (IE I think) and then when I tried to come back to MC (click on the taskbar) got the Rio 500 not found error message and MC closed (no other error message such as "media core error").

I don't think this is going to help much. I'll be more careful from now on to record what I do in case it happens again.
