TopDownDriver:
Could someone please explain the difference in setting the following:

File Types:

I can set the audio Playback method to be the following:

Automatic
JRiver Audio Engine (using Input Plug-in)
JRiver Audio Engine (using DirectShow Filter)

I am just wondering what the differences are between these three.  I assume that Automatic selects from the following two options.

Thanks

Hendrik:
"Automatic" will just pick the best choice at all times, so unless you're having a problem you're trying to fix, no reason to switch away from it.

"Input Plug-in" are optimized input plugins for a variety of common audio formats. For audio formats, this is usually what "Automatic" will pick anyway.
"DirectShow Filter" is a more generic source with support for a wide variety of more uncommon audio formats, and is used for formats where a native Input Plug-in is not available.

So in short, stick to Automatic! :)

BryanC:
Oh god no. You are going to give people flashbacks.

Do. Not. Proceed. Nothing good can come of it.

TopDownDriver:
In Windows 10 does JRiver use its own FLAC codec or the one built into Windows?

Am I right in assuming that that if set to use DirectShow Filter it is using the Windows version?

Thanks

Hendrik:
1) Its own.

2) No, even then it does not use the one built into Windows.

We use the FLAC reference codec, there is no better FLAC decoder.
