internet connection NEEDED? for Gizmo remote to work
« on: August 19, 2015, 05:06:13 pm »

I'm trying to setup a media server in the car.
Using a Zotac Pico with a Edimax mini Router.
Using Gizmo on a Galaxy Tablet but getting an error when I try to connect to the MC Server.
Do I need internet access for the Gizmo remote to work?

If so is there a different remote that works?

I previously had Monkey Tunes with Monkey Remote in a different setup and it worked well in the car without access to the internet.

Thanks

You don't need an internet connection; just enter the IP address of the server (+ ":52199") directly instead of an access key.

I can confirm that it works, I use gizmo without an internet connection at work to control a raspberry pi all the time.  The only "hitch" i that you need something handing out IP addresses.  You've got a router set up so you should be fine, but you don't actually even need that.  If your phone can act as a "wi-fi hotspot" it effectively turns itself into a router.  You can then connect using Gizmo from your phone to the computer (essentially point to point).  You just need to make sure the computer looks for your phone's SSID and auto-connects, etc.

Got it squared away this morning.  I was trying to avoid needing the phone with me.

Works well.  Next stop- getting the display to mimic what I asked of it in the JRiver options.

Appreciate the assistance.
