Automatic Update?
« on: August 22, 2015, 10:28:18 pm »

Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere....

I'm running MC20 but have paid and installed for MC21.

Will MC20 automatically upgrade to 21 on the next stable build of MC21 or do I need to manually do it? (I'm on the stable release channel).

Thanks!

No. You need to download the installer for MC21. When you run it it will install it into a new program folder (I.e. as a separate program to MC20).  You can actually still run MC20 after you've installed MC21.

I believe but not 100% anymore that when you first run MC21 it will search for your MC20 database and import it, but if it doesn't then you can just do a backup in MC20 and a restore in MC21.

Thanks!

Is there a stable Build for V21 yet? (and how do I find out?)

You could read about the wiki topic on Updates to learn how they work.

So far, MC21 is only on the "Latest" channel.

I bought 21 and it clicked on the install key.  It said it was installed.  However, it is not on the compute.  Where do I find an install key?  I do not see it with the registration code email.

If on Windows or Linux, download from the forum here and install, then restore your license.

If Mac, please wait a few days, then do the same.

I did review the wiki, but I'm still not sure how to tell when a V21 release is stable. I don't see that mentioned at the top of the board.

I would prefer not to upgrade until there is a stable version, I'm just not sure how to tell which release is marked Stable.

There is no MC21 stable release, and probably won't be for a while yet.  MC21 is still brand-new, and is under active development currently.

The stable releases are the ones posted here:
http://www.jriver.com/download.html

Please note that these are not stable meaning "less likely to crash". That may be true once the product has been "live" for a while, but it mostly means stable as in "changing less frequently". For more information on how JRiver does development, and what they mean by "stable" and "latest" please see:

We're in this phase:
Early in the process, we pile on features we've been planning, things users suggest, and responses to market changes.  This makes the software less stable, but it changes more quickly.

If you don't want to participate in that, come back in a few months.
