Anyone else encounter this problem? I'm using an apple superdrive attached to mac mini. Have messed with cd/dvd settings in system preferences without success. I rip a whole lot of cds and auto eject upon completion would be really nice ...

There have been numerous reports of unusual behavior while ripping CDs with MC20 for Mac.  I don't speak for JRiver; this is just me talking.  I'm guessing these issues are on their radar to fix, but aren't something that is a high priority.  They'll almost certainly get to it; it's just a matter of time.

In the mean time, I've used XLD to rip several hundred CDs with my Mac.  It's free.  It interfaces very well with MC.  Just point it's output directory structure to a place that MC is monitoring with Auto Import and it will automatically pick up the new albums and songs as you rip them.  For me, it's been a nearly ideal combination.

Just my opinion.
