  • "I Don't Play The Music The Music Plays Me"

So here is the situation. I installed MC21 the day it arrived my intention was to use it only as a movie server over dlna. (It was time to wipe the c drive and put a fresh install of 7 on anyway) Now I want to add the music but don't want to have to set MC21 up all over again with my settings for the music. can I use a backup from MC20 to restore the music library and settings or should I just restore settings and will either destroy my hard work with the dlna I set up to stream to a smart tv.

Would I be better off just telling MC21 where the music files are and setting up MC21 for music again...or re-install MC20 and use it for music only?

HELP ::)

When restoring from a backup, you can choose to restore the Library, the Settings, or both.

Yes I read all this. So there is no way to save the settings I have now. If I can't save what I have set up now I think the best thing is to import the music again and start from scratch with music settings. The dlna stuff was mind boggling for me but I have the music stuff down.

thanks glynor for ur fast response

If you read it before then I think you didn't understand it.

Settings and the Library can be restored separately.  Files are imported into the Library.  DLNA settings are Settings.

So, you can do what you want.

I think this will get you what you want:
Backup current library.
Restore music library.
Restore the current library and select 'Settings Only'

It's also possible to export an entire library as a playlist, and re-import this into your desired copy of MC, although this doesn't play particularly nicely with more than 10,000 files or so.

Why wouldn't you just restore the Library portion of the backup?  I'm confused.

Why wouldn't you just restore the Library portion of the backup?  I'm confused.

I was in fear of losing the movie dlna stuff I had worked on for a week, to show up on the smart tv...to keep the kid movies segregated from the normal adult movies (not porn)

Why I thought I didn't want the music files in to begin with was I didn't want them to show up over dlna....so once I started messing with the dlna  stuff I realized I could make the music go away....now you got me confused....lol

thanks

Most DLNA settings are not part of the Library.  They are settings (like Audio Settings, Zones, DSPs, and other Media Network settings). You can restore these independently of the Library using a Library Backup.

So, you can restore the Library-only portion of your backup onto your newly configured copy of MC21, and it will restore just the Library (the files you imported, way Views are set up, playlists and smartlists, etc) without impacting all of your other settings.

One thing that could, however, mess you up depends on what you mean by DLNA set up.  You didn't explain that.  If you altered the Media Network Views, then this would be part of the Library portion, and you would basically just have to re-import the files. But, it wasn't clear from any of the descriptions above what specifically you worked on for that week.

you might remember me asking for a sub-genre for kids movies.(I was in fear of losing the movie dlna stuff I had worked on for a week, to show up on the smart tv...to keep the kid movies segregated from the normal adult movies (not porn)) i ran back and forth from server room to tv room countless times to get it to work...with the help of these kind souls i mostly have it doing what i need it to do....
