Pono World says I need Apple Quicktime. That's not right, is it??
« on: September 02, 2015, 07:10:02 pm »

I have migrated from a Windows7 to a Windows8.1 computer. I downloaded the latest version of Pono World and installed it.
I plugged in my Pono and transferred my music from it to my computer.

When I try to play songs in PonoMusic World, some of them play properly, but a lot of them generate an error message instead, saying:
----
Cannot determine the version of Apple QuickTime.
Apple QuickTime 6.0 or above must be installed to play the file you selected.
-------
this can't be right, can it?

The filetype of the song (at least, the songs I'm looking at right now) is m4p, and the bitrate is 128.

Do I REALLY have to download and install Apple Quicktime to play the music from my Pono?  I don't recall that happening on my old Win7 computer.

Well m4p files are protected with DRM, which requires QuickTime to play.

Apple will allow you to convert those to unprotected files.  Search for "Apple Match" on the Internet.

It's actually not "Apple Match" (which is a paid service) but "iTunes in the Cloud" which will allow you to redownload any previous iTunes music purchases as unprotected files.   You will need to install iTunes in order to look at your past purchases on the iTunes Store to redownload those tracks.
