Title: Remote Control of JRiver
Post by: charbug on August 15, 2021, 10:59:30 pm
What is the best way to interface with JRiver MC28 on my computer (PC Windows 10) from my listening position.  I need something so I can just sit there and control everything from my listening position.

The wiki has a topic called Remotes.

You can get a MCE Remote and USB IR receiver and MCE Remote that requires no other drivers to be loaded for about $20 on ebay such as this one

https://www.ebay.com/itm/124653391382?hash=item1d05ebce16:g:dKIAAOSw8kFgXU1M (https://www.ebay.com/itm/124653391382?hash=item1d05ebce16:g:dKIAAOSw8kFgXU1M)

I bought one last year works a treat.

I seem to recall a few years ago, that USB-UIRT requires the 32-bit Windows version of Media Center to be used. If you're using the 64-bit, that could be why, and trying the 32-bit version instead might work.

Well, have you tried it with the 32-bit version? The USB-UIRT 32-bit driver and 32-bit version of Media Center? I do seem to recall users getting it working in the 32-bit version only.

1.  Girder is no more.  The rights to the software were bought by Proximia and it no longer sells to the public.  There are "trial versions" available but not sure of what inherent limitations are imposed by this version.  Having been bit in the @ss by IRule, Mediagraph and now Logitech, I'm gun shy about yet another "solution" that is already shown signs of disengagement from public consumption

2.  Will USB-Uirt power a PC up from complete shut down?  I currently have three HTPC's with working IMON hardware/software which works perfectly and will wake a PC from a power off condition as long as one of the USB ports is powered.  Unfortunately, this solution is now also obsolete.

In short, this detail of my home theater PC build history has been one of the most frustrating of all.   ::) ?

I am using my not-so-new android phone running JRemote-2. It has a simple player interface that allows basic controls as well as more sophisticated features allowing me to play specifi playlists on specific zones or transmit my music to the phone itself if I want to use headphones.  Since it uses wifi it works anywhere in the house that has wifi coverage. So you can actually walk around if you want. The downside? - you would need to purchase it separately

Unfortunately, JRemote will not run my TV Lift, the theatre lighting, the TV, the preamp, amplifier or HTPC so it is hardly a single point solution.

Outlaw, did you every try the 32 bit version of MC?  USB-UIRT may only be 32 bit.

Thanx

I use a Usb-Uirt Module with JrMc 28 32bits  + Oppo 203 Remote.. and it works fine.

MCE remotes are cheap...

I've got four or five MCE remotes, again, they only work the HTPC and typically aren't programmable.  Will your USB-UIRT module turn on a PC or does it require the PC to be hibernating or merely asleep?

Usb-Uirt alone no,

but JRiver + event ghost Yes... and much more...

I think that a beter integration of UsbUirt, in Jrmc  would be fantastic..

I understand that Event Ghost provides a common platform for multiple communication methods but can you explain how software can physically turn a PC on from a powered down (S5) state?

Excuse please, but I'm a newbie and won't be using JRiver player until I get my new desktop with BD drive to feed my TV and 5.1 surround system. JRiver is the only Windows BD player I can find which along with DTS decoding and full surround support has slow motion AND zoom.

Most BD players don't have zoom, or can even always use it because many BDs are authored with BD Assn approved software which even in default mode likely locks out zoom control. That's the case for example with most Criterion, Universal and Sony BDs but not so with Warners, Kino and most Twilight Time BD releases.

What's even cooler is that while all Oppo BD players, like my 95, have zoom none let you move the zoomed image to center it on the screen. How dumb; even my lowly JVC XV-NA70BK DVD player can do that-as can my Pioneer LX500 BD player.

But I believe a decrypter like RedFox AnyDVD HD needs to be running in the background for JRiver to then let you zoom on any BD. Yes?

And you can use your Oppo 203 player's remote to control JRiver player? If yes, how can it or some other remote control device control slow motion and zoom when playing a BD?

Usb-Uirt alone no, but JRiver + event ghost Yes... and much more...  I think that a beter integration of UsbUirt, in Jrmc  would be fantastic..
Again, though a newbie with no hands on yet, I have cursorily perused this page https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Remotes#JRemote And I also found http://www.usbuirt.com/

Which of these remotes offer the easiest way to slow mo and zoom a BD movie?

AND which will also allow you to move and center the zoomed image on the screen?

Zoom is easy with any MCE IR remote, just press the up/down arrow during playback until you get to the "setting" option in the control bar, then use arrow buttons to change the zoom. It should be centered on the screen without any need for changes.

Slow Motion is impossible with a remote control... Unless someone else wants to chime in on how they've managed to get it done. I have asked several times to add Slow Motion to remote control options but no one will even reply. It would seem that it could easily be added to the same "settings" option in the control bar, where zoom and closed captions etc already exist.

The other problem with Slow Motion in MC, is that even when you try to use it via mouse, the darn DSP window will pop up EVERY time and you have to get it off the screen with the mouse. Even when using hdmi bitstreaming, no DSP enabled. Why can't MC just make slow motion work without DSP pop up?

These 2.4 GHz remotes work really well, and can even learn 5 IR comands to turn on your AVR, TV etc. Ready with transport controls and up, down, left, right and enter to. On the reverse side is a full keyboard (except Windows key) and it's an air mouse, when you really need to point and click.

I'm certainly glad to hear about the easy zooming but I can't believe how long users have been asking for a less than totally clunky slow motion feature. https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=90156.0

Is is really that difficult for JRiver developers to implement slow motion for BDs via a remote?

Couple issues with JRiver's current method for slow motion:
1. There is not a MC Core Command for slow motion, makes it impossible to do it via hotkey or remote control of any kind.
2. Even using mouse, a DSP dialog pops up on the screen requiring more mouse clicks.

Yes, I get it, but my concern is that users have been asking for a much easier to use slow motion for a good while and this is what we’re still stuck with. I realize that JRiver’s
not expensive software, but I can’t use my full featured Pioneer Lx500 for how I want to configure my surround sound system. Only JRiver with AnyDVD HD running in the background will make the best BD movie playback system for me. But I need well implemented slow motion to perfect it. So if developers aren’t checking these posts then I wish there was another way to contact them.

Trying as I have I still can't find a specific MCE IR remote model (s) that has up and down buttons and learning commands for zooming  AND centering the zoomed image. Please post links a one or more models.
