MC 24 Upgrades are Now Available
https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,114521.0.html
Information below is no longer current.
---------------
Upgrade Prices
You can now purchase a license that will work with both MC22 and MC23.
You can use a license from any previous version of MC to upgrade.
The price to upgrade for Mac or Windows is $26.98. A Master License is $36.98. Edit: These prices will be reduced by $5 if you purchase by October 17.
This is an outline of the upgrade process. To direct you, we need to check a few things.
1. Have you ever purchased MC?
If not, there is no upgrade price. Sorry.
2. Do you have your Registration Code for your older version?
If not, you can email it to yourself by using option #2 on the Restore Page (https://rover.jriver.com/cgi-bin/restore.cgi).
3. Do you have MC23 installed?
If not, please download and install it.
Now you're ready to purchase, but we need to know what OS you have and what license you want.
4. Are you planning to use more than one OS?
If so, you will need a Master License, which works with Windows, Mac, and Linux. You can purchase from the Help menu of a current version or you can go here:
Master License Upgrade (https://jriver.com/purchase_23_master_as_upgrade.html) (direct link)
5. Or do you only need Windows or only Mac?
Then you can get the new license here:
Windows Upgrade (https://jriver.com/purchase_23_as_upgrade.html) (direct link)
Mac Upgrade (https://www.jriver.com/purchase_23_mac_as_upgrade.html) (direct link)
Problems
Is your license not accepted?
Make sure you're on the right upgrade page. A Mac License can't be used to purchase a Windows upgrade, for example. A Master License can only be upgraded to a Master License, not to a Mac or Windows license.
Use copy and paste. 0 (zero) and O (letter) look alike. So do 1 (number one) and l (letter).
Can't find MC23? It will be available on the MC23 board (https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/board,53.0.html). Follow the instructions in this topic to install. More in the Where is MC23 (https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,110659.0.html) topic.

Restore your license (https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Restoring_a_License)
Restoring a backup (https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Library_Backup) of your library. MC makes them automatically. You can use your OS to search for zip files to find them. MC23 can restore a backup from MC20, MC21, or MC22.
You can use translate.google.com to translate this page. For example: En Francais (https://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&ie=UTF8&prev=_t&sl=auto&tl=fr&u=https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php%3Ftopic%3D104782.0)

Great upgrade price! Just purchased. It took me a couple of years to really understand all the features of MC. Keeping my fingers crossed that it would improve my initial startup time of the 18 zones running simultaneously in sync.
Cheers!
Edit:- just finished installing and this exactly what I needed. I should have upgraded long time ago. Can't wait for MC23. Thank you so much.
-
SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL ;D
All went well, no problems.
-
Buy it without asking. Is one of the software that survive so many years as a base for my pc software.
-
Done of course! :)
-
How do I know that my product is actually upgraded after I buy at the introductory price before MC23 is released? Under 'Registration Info' I only seem to have MC 22.0.88, although I bought the Windows upgrade a few hours ago.

Well, MC23 isn't out yet, and won't be until later in the Summer. But if you bought a license a few hours ago, you've (very likely) got a MC23 license.

Plus the email you received with the Registration Code and Licence (mjr) File attached will identify what you purchased.
Install the licence and you will have an MC23 licence. :D
-
Upgrade will not work. Message "cannot find upgrade for this registration code" something like that.
-
You can upgrade a Master License only to a Master License. You also have a Windows License, which can be upgraded to a Windows License or a Master License.
-
Thanks for the great prices :)
I decided to take advantage of the offer to upgrade my Windows license to a Master license. However, when selecting Help > Upgrade to Master License from within the app I was taken to the Windows only upgrade page (for $15.98).
So, I went through the website route, entered my Registration Code for MC22 and reached the Master license upgrade page ($22.98). I entered all details as required and received a confirmation page/registration code and email for an MC23 Master license with an attached license key file.
I applied the license key to an existing Windows MC22 install and it confirmed it had been applied. However, Help > Registration Info still shows as a '(Registered Windows license)'
I then tried applying the license key to a trial Linux install and got the message 'Your license file is for a different product.' I also tried the Restore License route and entering the new MC23 Registration Code, but that failed with the same error.
Please could this be checked?
-
Please try downloading and installing the latest version. Then restore again. If you're already licensed, it may still show the old license.

Thanks Jim
For Windows, I usually stay on the stable updates (22.0.88) but have tried installing the latest (22.0.97) and still get the same result - confirmation that the license has been applied but the info still shows as Windows License.
For Linux, it is a recent PC build with a trial version only - I never had a Linux license. The repository confirms it is the latest version but will not accept the license key.
My impression is that while the key is labelled as Master it seems to be a Windows only key.

I believe that once you have licensed MC22 on a machine, you can not license it again, unless you first remove the existing license. ...and I don't think you can do this directly. I think you have to uninstall and remove all registry entries, etc.
But there's really no need to do so, except for verification purposes, so you can know that you got a master license. Your MC22 license for Windows should continue to work correctly and fully for all versions of MC22 for Windows.
If you want to verify that you have a master license, I would do a fresh, clean installation on another computer and use the new license key that you got. That should then show you your MC23 master license and confirm for you that you have the right license.
Brian.

I accept that it is no more than a verification for my Windows PCs and if I can, I may try a fresh build/install just to see if it does show it as a Master rather than Windows license.
However, it still leaves Linux - I am trying to apply the MC23 Master license to an unlicensed trial version of MC and get the message noted above, i.e. 'Your license file is for a different product.'

I'm not sure what version of MC22 for Linux started accepting MC23 licenses. What version of MC22 for Linux do you have? Is it the latest?
Brian.

I have reinstalled MC on the Linux machine, now on 22.0.93; it accepted the license key and shows as a Master License :)

thanks for the deal. mc22 installed smoothly.
-
Paid my "yearly maintenance fee." Keep up the good work.
-
Hi may I know what are the plans for mc23. Will upgrade the playback and dsp to multithread and multicore support. Because I currently having playback pausing problem on tablet or portable devices when upsampling to dsd, or upsampling to 768k and down mix 5 channels to 2 channels also pausing.
I notice the cpu no fast enough and only single core is used, if make use of others cores should be fine.

Hallo Jim,
I bought just Mediacenter 23 for $15,98
But when i try to install Mediacenter 23 Windows -381267.mjr
Then i got the message.
"Your Licence file is for a different product"
What do I have to do now?
-
Make sure you're using the latest build of MC22.
-
Can someone point me to a planned features list for MC23? Trying to find one without success. Appreciate your help in advance.

I also want to see this before I upgrade.

There is no published list. Sorry.
You can wait to upgrade for as long as you want. You don't ever have to upgrade.
We appreciate the support of the many people who do upgrade. It makes it possible to do the work.
I realize that we don't always go where you'd like us to, but we do always go somewhere. Some day you may find that useful.
This might also help explain how we work:

Yikes - ok..... never mind then.
-
Will be -for sure- be buying the new update, but just a small question I come up to you with... (Not really sure if this is the right thread)
Have you thought for next upcoming releases to launch an "Audiophile Only" version of JRiver?
Kind regards.
-
I'm in! Can't wait to see what the team has cooked up for the next release of my most used program :D
-

Please take a look at this:

-
Happy to upgrade yet again. Thanks for all your team's work!
I forgot when I first got on board but it was called 'Media Jukebox'. Still like that icon better. :)
If all you did for MC23 was publish a manual, I'd send you another $20. Really. Or maybe you could please write some tooltips for the options?
And, when ordering, my transaction failed twice before I tried re-inserting the dashes in my credit card number. I think you might want to either fix that (I can't think of a site that doesn't accept a string of numbers without the dashes) or add a small note to the effect that they're required.
Regardless, continued good luck!
-
Upgraded to v23 master license although I exclusively run Windows I bought the Master license to support JRiver. Maybe I may end up using JRiver on a PI or similar :)
Any ideas on what key developments planned for v23?
-
Can someone point me to a planned features list for MC23? Trying to find one without success. Appreciate your help in advance.
I am always updating for years now, and will again, however I also would like to see planned features list. Is there anywhere a wishlist for planned features? I keep asking for an auto playlist generator based on a musical fingerprinting reference file to find similar music.
Also the tagging meaning writing the tags from computer to file in my versions 20 to 22 does not support many of my aufio files, I just get an error message that it could not be writter, for whatever reason. Fixing things like that I would appreciate. I read, an audiophile only version, that suports only music, I wouls also prefer, never used MC to play anything else than music, the rest just clutters and confuses.
-
I'm (still) working with MC20 on (mainly) Windows 7. Can I install MC22 and still use both without any problems?

Sorry but statements like this should never be made categorically. Just because you don't find something useful or you find it confusing does not mean thousands of others suffer the same fate. I use the video in theatre mode for my home system. There's no clutter about it and certainly does not confuse me.
By the way, there's an Audio mode ONLY already built into MC22 where it hides every other file panel not related to audio. Simply go to View and you will see Audio only mode there.

I'm using MC17. Is this upgrade available with it?
-
I'm on MC21; how should I proceed to obtain the upgrade price?
If I'm reading this right, I just need to install MC22 (and thereby the package installer) to read the new MC23 licence?
-

You can just use the upgrade links in the first post in this thread, enter your MC21 license key and you get the upgrade discount.

Once you have a MC23 license, you can already upgrade to a recent verison of MC22, and it'll accept the new license - and later this year, once its released, you can upgrade to MC23.

Right click on a file and choose "Other Play Options" and then "Play with Play Doctor". The wiki has a topic.

Hello, I am totally confused. I have already purchased MC22. Do I need to purchase MC23 or do I get it automatically? The Last line of your email is ambiguous. Bob Wisker
-
If you purchased in the last 30 days, you received an MC23 license.
-
I haven't found the release note for MC23.
Could you point me the link?
Thanks
-
Will there be a 64-bit version of MC23 for Windows?
-
I bought MC18 a few years back, and this is an incentive to finally upgrade.
I only use Windows 10 - 64 bits now, so I assume this will work and bring my old MC18 up to MC23?
Thanks!
Alex
-
That will work. MC23 won't be available until this summer, but the license works with MC22 now.
-
Is there an easy way to have my library, options etc. in MC22 (from MC20)?
-
I still can't upgrade, I downloaded my registration code again just to make sure I had the right one. I get the message (We could not find an upgrade available for the registration code you entered). I'm out of ideas? Thanks

In the past, we haven't supported upgrades from a Master type license to a single platform license. I added that option now so please try again. Thanks!

My MC 20 with settings did not get uppgraded after downloading and running MC 22 exe
I own and have MC 20 installed with various view/color settings and want this version upgraded with preserved settings.
I purchased today MC 23, downloaded the MC 22 and installed. The Install key was run automatically without errors.
The MC 22 TRIAL version got installed (with its standard settings) PARALLELL to the MC 20 that did not get upgraded.
I thought it by default checked for older versions or copied all its settings into the new version so I would not have to do all that job again.
How do I upgrade my MC 20 and preserve its settings? ... and do not get the trial version installed.
When I try the MC20 menu choice to look for updates, it says I have the latest one (MC 20), so it seems that the installation program has not registered I have MC 20 already.
(I have already wasted one of the restoration keys when trying to fix this)
-
My question (above) in a nutshell... LOL I don't want to experiment because it's so long ago I was working with the settings. So I wait first for an answer from the experts to start with...
-

Do a manual library backup in MC20, then restore the library in MC22.
https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Library_Backup
-
I've purchased the new update.
But I've installed MC22.
I've installed the new licence for MC23.
When I will install the MC23, ¿is it necessary return to install the licence another time?
Thank you!
-
@Awesome Donkey: Will MC22 restore MC20 library in MC22 folder?
-
It will restore the MC20 library in MC22. Download the latest MC22 build and try it for yourself.
What I would do is;
1. In MC20 go to File > Library > Back Up Library... and save it somewhere (e.g. the Desktop).
2. In MC22 go to File > Library > Restore Library... and find and select the backed up library file (with all checkboxes in the dialog checked).
3. Profit!
Keep in mind, MC will have to rebuild thumbnails if you did that previously. But other than that, it *should* import everything. Once MC23 is released, just repeat the above from MC22 to MC23.
-
Thanks, I appreciate it!
-
Thanks "Awesome Donkey" for the short and correct instruction. It worked except from little color tones that did not follow. But that can easily be fixed.
-
I'm interested in upgrading but i have a couple of questions.
Is it possible to upgrade my Linux MC22 license to a MC23 Master License?
The MC23 Linux version will be available together with MC and WIN versions?
Thank you.

No. MC23 will find the license.

I have MC22 and bought the MC23 upgrade. I would like to have a copy for two other PC's. Do I have to buy full Licenses for each or is there a multi-license price available?

Your license is good on all the computers you own, within reason.
-
Will MC23 allow me to view/read liner notes? I'll get it anyway but the ability to access liner notes would put JRiver over the top!

Hi, I'm also using the PC ver 20 and bought the master licence ver 23 - how can I upgrade and save my library and playlists etc? Thank you!
-
See one of the posts above from Awesome Donkey. I did what he wrote and everything went great. I made a new folder "Media Center 22" to put backup in and have my original folder.jpg in there. It seems everything looks like it was in MC20. Like the new skins too!
-

Back up in MC20. Restore the backup in MC23. Read carefully when you do.

I have an MC22 Master License and I have my Registration Code which has been confirmed by an e-mail from JRiver Media Center.
Today, I attempted on numerous occasions to upgrade to the MC23 Master License. All went well until I was on the payment page. I filled in all the blanks, revising some of the auto-fill information (my credit card number has changed) but every time I pressed the Pay Now button, I received an error that the information in red was missing. The only information so noted was the Coupon section and not having a coupon I left it blank. Filling it with various possibilities didn't solve the issue. I tried refilling all the auto-fill information by keying it in. I tried selecting MasterCard and I tried selecting PayPal. Neither worked. None of the information in your Upgrade Help is relevant to this issue.
How can I pay for this upgrade to a Master MC22-23 license?
Thanks for your help

Minor updates are free. Major upgrades aren't.

Try another browser.

Are you using this page:
http://jriver.com/purchase_23_master_as_upgrade.html (http://jriver.com/purchase_23_master_as_upgrade.html)
and entering your registration code beginning with "05TP5-" ?
-
Yes, and this is the same page that links from the JRiver e-mail announcing the availability of the upgrade. Whether I connect via that link or whether I go directly via the URL address you have shown in your Reply, I end up in the same place and with the same issue.
I tried again just a few minutes ago and this is the message I receive: There was an error in your submission. Please check the fields in red.
Important: Your e-mail and password will be needed to restore, so please enter a valid e-mail address and a password you can remember.
The only item in red is: * Coupon (if any):
I hope that helps

Did you try another browser?

Did the upgrade, but still seeing MC22 22.0.97 license.
When running the MC23.mjr, I got the following message:
-
I previously upgraded to MC22, but wasn't able to use it due to windows 10 incompatibilities at the time (the start menu and all that). Now there is an email inviting me to upgrade again; has this issue been resolved (either in windows or JRiver)?
Thanks

There is no Win10 compatibility problem. Please start a thread if you would like help, or bump one if you did already.
-
Did the upgrade, but still seeing MC22 22.0.97 license.
If MC22 is licensed already, please wait until an MC23 build is available.
-
I purchased the MC23 license for windows last night. When I clicked the link I got a message that said something to the effect that my license does not match the product, or something like that. Sorry, not by the PC now, can't double check. Does that mean that maybe I purchased a master license when I bought MC21?
I just looked at the e-mail from when I purchased JRiver initially:
"Thank you for your purchase of Media Center 21 Windows from JRiver, Inc. for $49.98."
So, it looks like I purchased the correct license last night, am I missing something?
-
Make sure you use a recent version of MC22 (ie. from here (https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,110449.0.html)), otherwise it won't recognize the new license.
-
There is no Win10 compatibility problem. Please start a thread if you would like help, or bump one if you did already.
Thanks, if it is now resolved I shall upgrade again. (I don't need help - this was said to be a microsoft problem)
-

Please try another browser like Jim said. I wonder if there's some white-space character stuck in the form's coupon field? You could click in that field and backspace or delete to clear it out. You could clear the cookies (history).

My bad, I purchased March 26th not April 26th. What I saw was that anyone who purchased in the last 30 days would automatically get the MC23 license. I saw that this started on April 24th. So that is why I'm asking
If you purchased in the last 30 days, you received an MC23 license.
Again, I did purchase in the last 30 days based on the thread announcement of April 24. I purchased on March 26th. My email states "Thank you for your purchase of Media Center 22 Windows from JRiver, Inc." So, what you've stated does not agree with the information sent to me. Can I verify the license is indeed a MC23 license in some way?

Hi
I got this offer email too.
I am still using version 19 and I cannot find a list of what has changed and/or been improved since.
Has such list been compiled? If so, please send me a link...

Looking forward to seeing what is in the pipe for the new version.

I am having trouble buying the upgrade. I did the copy and paste 3 times and put my code in manually 2 times. Nothing works. I get a message saying "not a valid code". I saved the email that was sent to me when I first bought MC22. I want to complete this before the 7th. What is the problem?
-
You have a Windows license for MC22. You can't upgrade that to a Mac license, but you can upgrade to a Master license. Does that help?
-
Having never done this before, this might be a dumb question. I just updated to the latest MC22, then clicked the license key/link and it said the registration was successfully installed. No MC23 download.
Does that mean I've pre-purchased it, installed the reg key, and when MC23 is available I'll be able to download it then? Or, should I be able to install MC23 now?
-
MC23 will be available this summer. Your license will work with MC22 now and MC23 when it is available. Thanks for your purchase.
-
JimH - Thank you for the clarification.
-
Thank you I was able to upgrade.
-
Take a look at the "View Extras" feature just added in MC22.
Thanks, I found that last night while poking about. Another reason to actually read release notes!

(I thought I posted this earlier but cannot find it. I apologize if this is a duplicate)
<<<Audio only>>>: I am currently run JRiver version 19 on an older MacBook. This works well for me.
Is it a reasonable assumption that version 22/23 would also run or will they require more processing horse power for acceptable performance?
Thank you

Hello, I on trial period for MC22 and just saw about MC23.
Can I buy directly MC23?
I can't find what differences there are between them. Could you give me a link?
Thanks

Thanks but I am unclear how this answers my question: namely, is my older hardware that does OK performance wise (no stuttering when playing music, no hiccuping, etc) with JRiver 19 likely to work ok with JRiver 22?
thank you
-
If you're using MC for audio only, it should be fine.
-
Just upgraded!
It's been a beautiful 7 years since i joined you guys and bought my first licence. What a fine piece of software. Can't wait for all the goodies jrmc 23 is going to offer!

Hello, I am on trial period for MC22 and just saw about MC23.
Can I buy directly MC23?
It won't be available for a couple of months, but you can purchase MC22 now and get an MC23 license that works with both.
-
Hello again.
I've been trialling MC for a few days and will be buying a licence in the next day or so - great program btw, seriously great. If I buy now will I get MC22 and the upgrade to MC23 at the the deal price, or is MC23 bundled in with the current licence as it's so close to release or, would I just get MC22 and then have to buy the upgrade at whatever price that is when it's released?
Thanks

I just purchased the $15.98 Windows upgrade of MC23. I didn't realize that I mistakenly bought a Master license for MC22, even though I only have (& will only have) a Windows OS. Is my only option to upgrade to a Master license for the $7?
-
The Master License works with the Windows version of MC. You now have an MC23 license for Windows. It also works with MC22.

You did not buy a "Master License" 15.98 is the upgrade price for a single operating system. 22.98 is the price for a Master License till end of day on 5-7-2017 unless they extend.
-
The Master License works with the Windows version of MC. You now have an MC23 license for Windows. It also works with MC22.
After purchasing the MC23 license for Windows, I'm quite sure I executed the install key, but it's still the JR "Media Center 22 22.0.105" which shows up in my registration information. Can this be the case, if I had successfully installed the key?
-
It may not change until you use MC23. It's not yet available.
-
Thanks for the pre-release pricing.
-
I'm sure it's been asked but there is a ton to sift through. If we currently have MC 21 and just did the upgrade to 23 what should be done?
Backup MC21 library and install MC22 use the MC23 reg code and then restore library from MC21?

Just install MC22. It should find your old library.

Thanks. I'll back up my settings just in case though to be on the safe side. Stranger things have happened right. lol.

I have a recommendation...I only use my MC22 for audio and find it a pain to select all the options to insure I only capture Audio when I try to set up the system. I often capture every music, video and image file on my entire network and then have to back and remove all the dross including sound effects...
How about a 'step one', choose what you intend to use the software for (audio, video, or Pictures) and then, based on that selection, only let the software scour the network for the files desired...
Just an idea...It is why I tend to skip versions of the program...too much bother buying and loading a new one when many of its upgrades only apply to files I do not use...
-
You can backup your library so it keeps all your settings. Along with setting it to search only specific folders vs looking all over your computer as you have experienced.

You may just need to set up your preferences under auto-import settings. You can add or remove directories. You can edit to set which file types you want.

You should never have to re-import anything, or start over from scratch, or remove anything from your existing library, when you upgrade to a new version of MC.
If the installation of the new version of MC doesn't find your old library, and use that as it is, then the best advice is to back up the old library before upgrading, and then restore that backup into the new version, with all settings, as mentioned here:
You can backup your library so it keeps all your settings. Along with setting it to search only specific folders vs looking all over your computer as you have experienced.
Also as Jim suggests, if your existing library is looking everywhere for all sorts of files, you need to check your Auto Import settings. MC certainly shouldn't be looking all over your network for all file types!

Aarrrgg - 1 hour and 47 minutes too late - ::) ::)
i bought it for 22, 98 $ via PayPal. But that's not going to happen.
But I have gotten from you no E-mail with the mjr file. I only received the confirmation from PayPal that I made a payment to JRiver.
Transaction code: [removed]
Fortunately I copied the registration code from the website.
Can you send me the mjr - file yet? Or it is better to make the registration with the registration code when MC 23 appears, since the mjr file is then anyway no longer valid.

Check your spam folder.
Please read this on licensing:

Sorry to be stupid, but I purchased the updgrade for Media Center 23 and I received the email with the "Registration Code". Do I need to do anything else or am I upgraded? Is there a way to check to make sure I have been upgraded? I have Media Center installed on two computers and I want to upgrade on both. Thanks.
-
dpj0122,
From the first post in this thread:
Can't find MC23? It will be available later this summer and we will send you an e-mail with instructions.
The "Registration Code for JRiver, Inc. Media Center 23" email you received includes an attached license key file (.mrj file). You can install the MC23 license on your computer or computers by saving the attached .mjr file on a local disk drive or a USB flash drive and running it by double-clicking it. Then the computer(s) will be ready for MC23.
The license key file is valid for 14 days. If you decide to postpone the license installation, you can get a new key later when it is actually needed for MC23: https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Restoring_a_License

You have a Windows license, so you shouldn't be seeing that message unless you're on a Mac or Linux system.
-
I am getting following message "your license file is for a different product" nott sure wat to do next.
It's also possible you just need to update to the latest version because older versions won't support a v23 license.
-
I am getting emails badgering to upgrade but I cannot find out what I get for my money?
-
How do we know what new features will be available for MC23? I have MC22 now and wondering if it's worthwhile upgrading for my needs.
-
It's $16 dollars, anything new is worth it.
-
I've used this program for years but also would rather see a list of new features before upgrading. Even if it's subject to change.
-
I have MC22, went thru the Windows Upgrade offer and ended up with a message that essentially said 'use the program to upgrade" Spent 30 minutes going thru the blog on upgrades, still lost. No emails received from JRiver and I don't see any credit card charges at my bank. What am I missing?
-
I am currently having the Master License for MC 22. But I would like to downgrade my license to windows only for my upgrade on MC 23 since i sold my mac. Is it possible to upgrade at the price of Windows Only License for my future upgrades?
-
Can someone point me to a planned features list for MC23? Trying to find one without success. Appreciate your help in advance.
Would also like to know.
-
Hello good day.
I tried to update the jriver 21 to 23 and tell me that the license is for another product ??
What I do?
A greeting.
-
Would also like to know.
Me too, where's the feature list? ?
-
There is no published list. We won't have any early builds of MC23 until the summer.
There is no need to upgrade at this time, but we offer a steep discount for those who do.
-
I upgraded to new master license.
I find the current version perfect and I doubt new features will even apply to me apart from maybe stability upgrades.
JRiver is my favorite software though and I essential part of my life so I consider moving through the versions like a subscription renewal.
(I did the upgrade on a mac that doesn't currently run JRiver so I may have little to no idea how to apply the resulting license file but I know I'll figure it out if I have any problems.)

You'll need to install (and use) the latest MC22 build which can use the MC23 license until MC23 is released.
-
Yes. Did you read my message? I attempted to follow the instructions as stated. My conclusion is that the upgrade offer process has a problem and most likely requires the Bill Gates response, ctrl-alt-delete. In other words, try it again. I believe software either works or it doesn't. I hate to execute multiple attempts when my credit card number had been submitted into the process. I suspect the only suggestion you can offer is to try it again however.

Hallo Jim,
I bought just Mediacenter 23 for $15,98
But when i try to install Mediacenter 23 Windows -381267.mjr
Then i got the message.
"Your Licence file is for a different product"
What do I have to do now?
Exactly the same here, 1st pc accepted, no problem. However when copied over "MediaCenter 23 Windows-388 475 mjr" file it gave same message as above so no V23 on 2nd PC (laptop). Present version on both pc's is MC22 22.0.105 on Windows 10
Help?
Just tried doing a further restore at MC22 on the faulty pc and then after successfully restoring at MC22, and then finally attempting the MC23 upgrade the message is now different saying "Your license file is for a different product".
Before I use up ALL of my 10 restore capabilities can someone please advice what I should do>
-
I purchased the upgrade @23 ... the upgrade file is downloaded, I double click it, I am notified that the license has been registered by JRiver, still I still see JRiver 22
I followed the steps in https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Upgrade_to_MC23_for_Windows and the direction in the email after payment but .. I still see JRiver22 (also the instalaltion directory under Program Files(x86) is still JRiver 22
please advise

I went thru the process for a second time and again ended up again with the same problem - see attachment. After submitting my MC22 license (cut and paste from your email, currently running MC 22.0.105) and credit card info, I get a quick response (< then a second) after what seems to be a credit card verification transport delay. Almost immediately Internet Explorer 11 (Version 11.1198.14393.0 Update Versions: 11.0.42 KB4018271 - read as fully updated) states there was a problem with the web page and Internet Explorer had to restart having been left on your page that says "Please use the program to initiate the process" Use another browser? I gave up on MS Edge since it doesn't support my password manager (or any other non-MS process) so I could try another computer with another browser installed if you think the problem is with Mr. Gates.
-
Could not seem to find a summary of the changes to be included with JRMC23.
Use MC exclusively for audio so not there is are any relevant changes from JRMC20 which has worked flawlessly?

Your purchase succeeded.

Against my better judgement, I went thru the process with the MS Edge browser and got thru the process where I finally received a MC 23 registration code. However to get a valid download of the Media Center23Windows-388540_mjr.txt file was another 20 minutes of reiterated execution requests. I guess being a Professor of Computer Engineering doesn't isolate me from the non-deterministic world of Windows 10.
I look forward to Version 23. MediaCenter has handled my hi-resolution audio requirements very well.

Do you also have an earlier version of MC on the problem PC, such as MC21? I did, and saw this problem on one PC, and not another.

I actually deleted both MC21 & MC20 from control panel and then tried the mjr for MC23 again.....success.

How it goes forward with MC for Qnap? will be there a version MC 23 for Qnap or is this MC 22 the last?
-
I have bought the windows upgrade today and followed the instructions. I downloaded the latest stable 22 version and ran the licence key. I got a dialog box that said it was registered correctly. However when I got to help and look at the registration info, it says it is unregistered???
-
Run MC22 again and then restore your license.
-
I have tried the Windows upgrade page several times with the same failure - when I click after the credit card info has been entered, Chrome shuts down and reopens on the same site with a message "please use the program to initiate purchase."
-
I wonder if someone could help. I have managed to do something really dumb. I have previously bought an upgrade to the Master collection and after seeing the upgrade email decided to get the deal for version MC 23. Dumbo here didn't pay much attention to the link and I have ordered and paid for the standard windows upgrade. Reading through the forum it seems that I have committed a big mistake. Just wondering if there is anyway way to sort this issue out without having to repurchase another licence.
-
Hi, I am a newbie.
Sorry if this is answered somewhere else, but I couldn't find info on it.
I installed a trial version at the end of January, which as far as I understand is actually a full version with a 30-day expiration. I installed my library and then created a bunch of playlists and set a bunch of options to my liking. Then I wasn't able to get back to working on it again until today. Obviously by now my trial time has expired. So I went to purchase a license for it but am now told that this version is outdated and I have to download a new version first. The trial version is 22.0.59.0.
So here are my questions:
1) How do I install a new version? Do I have to uninstall the old trial version first and then install the new version, or do I just install the new version and it will overwrite the old version?
2) Will I lose all my playlists and options-selections / customizations that I created in the trial version when I upgrade and then activate my license or will all that still be intact in the new version? I really don't want to lose all that as it took me hours to create. Plus it would seem strange that anytime you update you lose all your setups.
Thanks much for your help.
-
Normal updates overwrite each other with no loss of data. I don't think your case is any different; but just in case, do wait a little until someone who is more qualified answers this very specific question.
-
Just download and install. There is no need to uninstall. Data will all be preserved.
-
I am currently running MC21 with a Master License. I purchased a Master license for MC23 yesterday. Does this MC23 License allow me to upgrade to MC22 now, and if so what is the procedure?

It does. Download and install MC22. Use your new license to restore. Instructions are here:

can we get information about qnap version. will be there a version MC 23 for qnap? i ask already on 11.05 coz if so i like to buy the new lic. so now run out the special price.

I upgraded from MC19 Windows to MC23 Windows last night. Email I received with my Registration code said my web purchase should have activated Media Center automatically. That didn't happen. Found Install Key in Download file and tried installing there. No luck. Message I received was "error restoring Media Center License. Unknown error."
I tried several times, got same response. Made sure MC 19 was turned on. Didn't help. Looked around advanced settings and made sure all transaction types were set to ON.
Not sure how to resolve this issue. I have paid for an upgrade that will not install on same computer where MC 19 still resides.
Can anyone help me resolve this issue?
-
MC23 isn't available yet. It will be released this summer.
You can use the license with MC22. Just download and install it.

I purchased the MC23 master licensed and downloaded MC22 to both my PC and Apple Macmini. The PC version works fine, but the Apple version does not. When I double click the MC22 icon I get a "Problem Report" reading: "Media Center 22 quit unexpectedly." I restored the MC23 master license on the Apple and I was given a message that it was successful. I have downloaded MC22 twice, but get the same Problem Report.

Is the mini running 10.6.8?
That's unsupported in the latest MC22 builds and will not be supported in MC23.
-
Yes it is running 10.6.8.
-
Which Apple OS do you recommend I upgrade to for JRiver to run best?
-
IMO, the latest if you can. Otherwise I believe the minimum supported version is 10.7.

Thanks. Mine is a 2011 vintage so I'll upgrade to the most recent OS, while I still can.

the upgrade doesn't work when i try to install the key i have a message '' your license file is for a different product''
I bought a licence for window

Make sure you're using the latest 22.0.105 build for Windows.

it does work
Thank

This is correct, 10.7 is the minimum supported version.
It's pretty difficult to upgrade to anything other that the latest version however unless you have a physical DVD of 10.7, 10.8, 10.9, 10.10 or 10.11 since app updates won't let you go to a lesser version than current.
Just FYI 10.9 and below don't get security updates any more.
If you have 4 gigs of ram it's probably best to just go to 10.12.
If you can add ram you should do so.

;D All in - Masters license renewal - I simply love this product!!!!!

What is the upgrade price for MC21 users? Thanks. Gary

Not that it is necessary.. just saying !!
Yes I have MC23 master license!!

It should. Make sure you have the latest version of MC22 installed on the Mac, as only later versions of MC22 will recognise the MC23 licence.

As Roderick said, you need a new-ish build of MC22 for Mac to use an MC23 license. My MC23 master license is currently installed in my MC22 for Mac.

I have the latest 22.0.93.
From what menu I put the new key?
Can't find it...
Thnx
-
Use the .mjr key file - make sure you've opened 22.0.93 at least once (and make sure it was the last opened MC if there's multiple MC versions installed on the Mac) and simply open the .mjr file to register MC22.

I thought that the .mjr file is only for Windows and the registration is done with the key code.
I will try!

For some reason your e-mail server was unable to reach me until today (May 20). I have no idea why - I've been getting e-mail all this time from others - but this afternoon I got an e-mail from you beginning:
"Hi! This is the ezmlm program. I'm managing the
mlist@listserver.jriver.com mailing list.
Messages to you from the mlist mailing list seem to
have been bouncing. I've attached a copy of the first bounce
message I received."
It went on from there. As a consequence, I missed all notice of the discount window. Any chance I can get in on it?

If your version of MC22 is *already* registered, you can't re-register it. It is going to keep it's original registration information. If you install MC22 on a new computer, you can use your new MC23 code to register it though.
Brian.

If your version of MC22 is *already* registered, you can't re-register it. It is going to keep it's original registration information. If you install MC22 on a new computer, you can use your new MC23 code to register it though.
Brian.
Ok.. that's what I though!
It is already registered!
Thanks!!

Use the .mjr key file - make sure you've opened 22.0.93 at least once (and make sure it was the last opened MC if there's multiple MC versions installed on the Mac) and simply open the .mjr file to register MC22.
I'm a bit confused. I upgraded yesterday. First I had to download and install MC22 (on my two Windows PCs) which went fine. I used the MC22 key (.mjr) file on either 1 or both machines. As part of the upgrade, I also got an MC23 key file. When I double clicked on that I got a wrong program version message. This is not surprising as I'm running MC22. But as the key file is only good for 14 days, what is its purpose?
Edit - answered my own question. MC23 .mjr could be used on my second computer.
-
MC23 isn't available yet, but the key works with MC22.

Hello,
I love the software but I am a bit frustrated trying to get support. I bought a Windows license for MC21 back in 2015 and this morning tried to upgrade. I mistakenly bought a Master License and now I can't find any way to contact you except through this forum. In fact, none of the email addresses I have used with JRiver seem to be recognized.
Could you please have someone contact me so I can apply my purchase from today to the appropriate license.
Thanks.

A Master License will work with Windows. Just install MC22.

What's your email domain? (hotmail.com, gmail.com, etc)?

Please can someone help me. I bought a Windows license a while ago. I got the new MC23 key for that. Now I bought a MacBook Pro so I would like to upgrade to a master license but when I choose from the HELP menu "Upgrade to Master License.." it will take me to a page where I have to create a new username and it shows the full price of $69.89. How can I upgrade so that I don't need to pay the full price again?
Please help me! Thanks. :)
Here is where it takes me:

I am having a similar issue as Sassi (29 May post)
I bought the MC23 upgrade to Windows, and would now like to upgrade to a Master License.
When I went through the page as Sassi did, I was not discounted at all for my current license, so I aborted the transaction.
Clearly there is a hole in the process as it does not seem to accommodate folks like us.
How do we do this???
-
On Linux Fedora 25 I added my New Master License for Media Center 23 to my [Media Center 22] folder inside my [.jriver] folder. Opened my terminal and typed the following to correspond to my new license;
mediacenter22 /RestoreFromFile 'Media Center23 Master-393713.mjr'
Hit enter on the keyboard and there ya go. Thanks for another Year on Linux. ;D
-
When I went through the page as Sassi did, I was not discounted at all for my current license, so I aborted the transaction.
Did you get to this page to start the process? https://jriver.com/purchase_23_master_as_upgrade.html
If you did, and you entered your MC23 Registration code, and you didn't get a discount, did you try entering your MC22 Registration code?
As far as I know, based on what JRiver has written, the upgrade to a Master Licence from a Master Licence or single OS licence is the same, and it is the same no matter what version you are upgrading from. i.e. You could be upgrading from MC10 and would get the same price. Based on that, I think the upgrade from an MC22 or MC23 single OS licence to a MC23 Master Licence would be the same. So, no credit for the fact you have already upgrade to MC23, unless you strike a special deal with JRiver.
If entering your MC22 Registration code on the above page doesn't give you the discount, JRiver will need to sort you out.
-
That could be our problem. We will check.

It was. Please try again.

I tried to upgrade from v22 which is working fine.
After the update the library artwork was missing and none of the settings were transferred.
Reverting back to v22
-
You can restore a library backup from MC22 in MC23, and that'll recover your library and settings.
Artwork, on the other hand, is NOT transferred when upgrading to a new, major MC version (e.g. MC22 to MC23) and will need to be rebuilt. However, you *can* manually add back the artwork thumbnails generated in MC22 to MC23 without rebuilding, but it can be a little tricky.
To do this, make sure MC is completely closed then go to %APPDATA%\J River (you can copy and paste the bold part into the address line in Windows Explorer) and open this folder. Inside you'll see a Media Center 22 folder and a Media Center 23 folder. Open the Media Center 22 folder and you'll see a Thumbnails folder. Right click on this folder, select Copy then back to the main J River folder and go into the Media Center 23 folder. Right click (in a blank area) and select Paste to paste a copy of the Thumbnails folder into Media Center 23. Open MC23 (you should've imported a library backup before doing this) and you *should* have all the artwork back. :)

I forget how to install the MC23 upgrade from MC22.
I have paid my dues via PayPal this morning, have a new MC23 .MJR file and a new registration code.
Now what?

On windows you just download and install MC23 and it will pull in your MC22 library and settings. You will just need to install the license.

Having trouble with the MC23 upload from MC22. I bought the MC23 on 5-2-17 when it was in beta, when I enter the newer code it doesn't load up, what is wrong.
Still in MC22 since 7-19-16 and would like to stay current as possible.
Sincerely, Shear Bliss

Hello, looked around and didn't see a current post with the same problem I have.
I tried to upgrade my master license through the correct page per the instructions provided, but once payment is complete and returns to JRiver, I see the error The information we sent to PayPal and the information we received back don't match.
This was from my phone a few hours ago.
I then tried to look up my transaction ID a few minutes ago, but it claims it cannot be found.
To be sure, I tried purchasing once more, but via my web browser. The same error occurred. I don't see any typos and money has indeed left my account. So now I have paid for two master licenses, but am unable to receive them.
Could I please get some assistance?

I looked through our records and at Paypal and can't find one that matches your forum address.
You could write me at jimh at jriver.

Hi, I purchased the upgrade to MC23 and have a credit card record and transaction ref, but after initial license update failed for some reason. I didn't get a confirmation email, or lost it somehow. I need help to register my copy. Can send proof of the transaction with a ref#. Please help me to get a license for MC23. Thx

I purchased MC22 less than six months ago... do I need to purchase upgrade to MC23? I wish that I was informed of the impending new version before I bought 22, I would have waited for 23.
I don't see the $15.95 upgrade price when I go to check out. Is there a special link to it?
Thanks.

On windows you just download and install MC23 and it will pull in your MC22 library and settings. You will just need to install the license.
I installed MC23 and it did not pull in my MC20 library and settings. Had to do all my settings manually. Is there a save settings option somewhere? After Building a new PC and installing JRiver MC I also had to do all settings manually again.

I just re-sent your licenses. Look in your spam folder for e-mail from buy-button.

Recent builds of MC23 should find your MC20 library.
You can restore an MC20 library backup in MC23. MC makes them automatically.
-
Thx so much :D . Found that as well. Should have looked harder. ::)

Does a library backup save all settings? ? Wouldn't expect that when hearing the term "library backup"...
-
Yep, it does (except any thumbnails that may have been built). Plus you have the option (in the import dialog) to import only the settings or only the library or both. :D
-
Does a library backup save all settings?
Yes, at least in the last several versions.

Hi,
I have been a version 22 (Master Licence) user for some time and took advantage of the early bird upgrade to version 23 when it was made available early in the year. I am using a Windows (Version 10) laptop connected to a QNAP 682 NAS and a PS Audio Directsream DAC. The upgrade installed easily when it became available a few days ago on my laptop but won't do the same on the NAS. It said it has downloaded but doesn't come up on the screen unlike on the laptop where it came up as a version 23 icon.
I am not very computer savvy (as an older user) so any help would be very welcome.
Regards,
Peter

There are some QNAP threads on the Linux board here.

You don't need to install MC on the NAS box at all. If it all worked with MC22 on your laptop, it should all work very similarly with MC23 on your laptop. The NAS is just storage for MC; it doesn't need an MC server there.
Brian.

I purchased the upgrade, downloaded it, installed the license but my player still says it's Media Center 22, why?
-
Did you install MC?
http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Restoring_a_License

I just wanted to say thanks to Brian for his help. It is a little confusing as JRiver on the NAS is still listed as version 22. Will that remain as that forever and always be compatible no matter what version I have (say 5 years from now)?
Cheers,
Peter

Help, I bought the upgrade for MC23 on May 4th 2017. I did not hear of the upgrade being released until now. I am not that great at this so I am wondering if there is anything in it for me. I have a feeling I would mess it up anyway. I only use it for Audio and watching some videos. What is the upgrade all about?? Is there anyway to watch DVD's and Blu_Rays on MC22?? Can you give me the links to do the upgrade in case I decide to do so??
Thanks!!
ps: I have my Code

You can just download and install. Restore your license if necessary. Here's more:

I have been looking but I see no upgrade price for Linux users, other than an upgrade to a Master licence?
-
Ok, I've upgraded to MC23 (windows 10) but it doesn't load new music to the library. I put the MC22 icon on my desktop and if I run it I get all the new music files. Everything seems to be correct and I haven't changed any settings from 22 to 23.
Anybody else expierience this? ?
-
You may need to set up auto import.
The wiki has a topic on Importing files.
You could probably restore a backup from MC22.

Thanks, auto import brought them into MC23 alright but it seems I'll have to do that every time... no biggie. Thanks again.

Why is there no cheap upgrade for Linux users?
I do not need a master licence.

I have a couple of questions for you all. As a long time user of Media Center (I go back as far as Media Jukebox 5, I believe), I am ready for another upgrade. My question has to do with whether or not I will be able to retain my current custom view (if uses a custom expression), custom fields and playlists. My current version is MC 18.0.212. Will these all be retained? Additionally, a critical part of what I use MC for is to sync with an IPod Classic for music. As Apple has never played nice and issues have arisen over time, will the current version allow me to sync my music with this device?
I've attached a text file showing some of the expressions in case you need them.

I would like to install MC23 which I paid for in the spring and then upgrade to the 64bit Windows. Can anyone show me the links to do these 2 things? It has been a while since I have been on here:)
Thanks

Install MC23 64 bit and then restore your license.
https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Restoring_a_License
It's on the Download Page. Please read carefully.

Hi Jim, I have all my upgrades paid for (Windows 10) and I have all the restore numbers. I just need a easy link to get MC23 (I have 22) and after that I have the email message to get the 64 bit Windows. So All I really need is a quick link to MC23??
Thanks
-
Click on Download at the top of this page and read. You don't have to install the 32 bit version.
-
Hello, I got MC23 installed and now I would like the link to upgrade to 64 bit Windows 10. I don't need a master license and have all my fee's paid.Just need a link. Help!!
-
Hello, How can I tell if I have successfully installed the 64bit version ? On the top of my JRiver it says just 23??
Thanks
-
Both versions are on the Download Page. 32 and 64.
Help > About in the program.
-
Hello, I have purchased 22 and upgraded to 23. I paid about 16 bucks for that. Now I did the download for the 64 bit of 23 Windows10. I have all my codes. How can I tell if I have successfully downloaded the 64 bit?
Thanks
-
The 64-bit build can be found in the pinned release topic on the top of this forums section. Keep in mind the 64-bit build is considered experimental right now.
https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,112394.0.html
-
So after asking in 2 places I take it there is no way to tell if it was successful or not. Sounds like I better hope it was not!!
-
What was successful, exactly? If you want to know if you're running the 64-bit build or not, simply go to Help > About Media Center... and it'll tell you there (in the dialog title).
-
Atta Boy Mr Donkey, that was exactly what I was looking for. :D I hope I have not opened a Pandora's Box!!
-
Help>About Media Center....then look at the very top of the window that opens up
x64 will not overwrite 32 so make sure your opening the correct version....in other words the correct icon
this thread is supposed to be used for possible bug reports not questions. it may get deleted or moved....just saying ;)
You were already answered......

How do I fix it so that MC 23 will install?

You must download and install MC23, then restore your license.

Hi Jim,
I thought the 23 install was part of the upgrade purchase process; my bad. Doing the 23 install fixed my problem.
Many thanks,
George
