Dont know if i am the only who wants this but i think a good idea would be a new core comand (or keyboard shortcut) to switch audio out device.

For example to change between hdmi, usb or any other installed audio device (same like them which showed in option---> audio menu).

Major:

1. A better Android application (personally, I like the layout of Rocket Player) with a 10-foot interface

2. Ability to perform file transfers while connected as a Library Server/Client (e.g. push to client and pull from server)
Done

3. Ability to apply RM&C rules to a playlist/smartlist using MCC/MCWS

Minor:

1. On the "Finished" handheld sync action window, please include a link to go back to the sync status page for that device
Good idea  Done

Screen and or in-line recorder.

I know I've touch on this topic as a post on MC25 but never got anything definitive as to why or why not. I know that we had a in-line recorder in MC16 but it was dropped and I know that you could do a video record from screen captures. So is this something feasible or are there too many obstacles?

Hi there,

I would mind purchasing an update again if you would add:

- Audio DSP via DLNA -> so that the audio in a DLNA stream can be volume optimized, compressed, equalized etc.
- Video effects for DLNA -> contrast, brightness, saturation, CLUT looks...
- hardware accelerated realtime transcoding (Intel Quick Sync and NVidia NVENC) via DLNA and plain Media Network for x264 and x265(!)
+ fine control over transcoding bit rates and quality so that low network bandwidth clients also work

DLNA is useful for TV-sets... Like to have more control here...

Thanks :)

Ripping might be possible.

I'll be upgrading this time around... (EDIT - have just upgraded).

a) When I'm connected to my server in Media Center 23, accessing media files via UNC file path JRiver starts OK.
b) If the server is offline, then Media Center takes ages to start up, seems to be waiting for a timeout as the UNC path is unavailable.
Try to improve

I'd like to get (b) sorted, how about a lazy load?

Thanks..

My biggest feature request is how a "backup" does not include ALL key pieces of data - like the thumbnail databases.
To be considered

I finally figured out how to restore mine for a reinstall - but it took a lot of research and I managing to avoid the usual 6-10 hour CPU fest as MC tries to rebuild everything from scratch.

And before someone gets in the "size" of the backup comment (Thumbnails are too big to backup) - I am rocking a 100,000 tracks with embedded artwork in each file and the thumbnail DB was 310MB - this is not big by any stretch.

I love the way MC's backups can be restored and bring a new install right back to a point in time - but this thumbnail thing is a real PITA. Probably would not care of the actual thumbnail building process was fast and efficient but it grinds the CPU way too much and can take hours to rebuild the DB. I am willing to accept "bigger" backups (Maybe make backing up the thumbnails a checkable option?) in exchange for the valuable time this thumbnail building takes.

My second request is to have MC remember the exact Tab settings when switching libraries. I finally managed to solve this by saving several View states - but there is no good reason why MC should open a saved library a default tab state where the JRiver Home page is my Start page. Unless of course no tabs or changes have ever been made to the library.
Consider

Looking forward to v26

Continued success!

Cheers!

Particles!  Please fix the problem where the file references re-name themselves!

This happens when creating particles from scratch or using Swag Of Tools.  After doing a lot of work and creating the particles, they become useless as somehow JRiver messed up their references.  Gotta keep retrying until it magically works.  Gets very frustrating.
Take a look

I LOVE using Particles on concert videos.  Please fix this bug in the next release.  Would really appreciate it!

On the simple side of things you really need to ensure that on fresh installs of JRiver the 'I'm going to search your computer and bring all sorts of unwanted stuff into your library' is replaced by a nice big popup asking if you want that to happen!

Absinthe's list is excellent.

I'd like to add a simple one: fix the theater view scrolling so it's smooth like it used to be.

See this thread: https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,122403.msg848303.html#msg848303

I narrowed it way down so you can see exactly where things went wrong.

Another small one: an option (either GUI or by editing a skin file) to disable theater view's annoying cycling/slideshow of theme background images (I mean local images, NOT online slideshow) so that it comports with what Matt previously described as the correct behavior.

See what Matt says in this thread: (MC no longer behaves that way, and it's annoying)

I agree that Absinthe's post hits most of the notes that I'd like to see hit.  I disagree on that last point though.  Fonts were great but now that we have image support, I'd stick to images over fonts. They are much more user friendly.  But I do agree that there should be a common library but of images not a font.

The only thing I'd add, but it doesn't sound like you all are interested, is native Amazon Echo support.

Id be happy either way; however, the <img src> lines do not have sufficient mobility to center logo's with the text most of the time.  I constantly find myself editing PNG files removing uneven spacing around the graphic.  Although, to do the font solution correctly, you'd have to ensure the logos are centered with respect to the font so there's substantial work there as well (sigh)

The only thing I'd add, but it doesn't sound like you all are interested, is native Amazon Echo support.

Not sure Id give up on native Echo/Alexa support just yet.  Id say reading the comments on the board of late, there are a lot of people interested in this

I thought the solution here was to only have one background image in the "C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center 25\Skins\Theater View\Themes\[Theme Name]\Root\Audio, \Video and similar folders?

So if I understand you correctly, you want a single background for the Audio panel, and a single background for the Video Panel and so on.  The backgrounds are static for each view?

                                                                              or

Multiple backgrounds for each panel that only change when you cycle to another panel view?

Regarding skins, I'd highly recommend looking at the Modern Cards skins (and the forks of the Modern Cards skins I've done, which can be found in this topic here (https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,106397.0.html)) as they fit a modern OS aesthetic.

Specifically the Modern Cards skins should fit the "modern" Windows 10 look and feel. The Grey Edition skin on the other hand should fit the macOS aesthetic as well.

Since 9 years I regularly buy a new version. Since the fewest new features are relevant to me, I'm more interested in supporting the product. The last useful feature "for me" was the direct processing of DSD files.
Since I only used my HTPC to listen to music and have an extensive local collection of music, I don't need any kind of streaming services, TV and so on. Just playing local music.

My requests for MC26 are the same as the last 5 years:

* genre specific tags for the remote
Today, when I start playing (any genre) a song the remote (EOS/ Gizmo, what ever) is showing
1st row: song name
2nd row: interpred and album name

what I would like to see in genre classical
1st row: song name
2nd row: composer
3rd. row: orchestra / soloists / conduktor / Chorus
the Tag and there order should be configurable.

As I understand MC it provides the remote (EOS/ Gizmo, what ever) the data to display. So the remote shows what is delivered. Therefore a kind of "debt to be brought forward".
Some customization is a good idea

* Offline DB for the remote
sometimes I am surfing the net and some possible new music came across.
because my music server was not up and running ( or not available, offline, what ever) to check if I did not already have the CD I had to let pass the opportunity ( had to park the cd's in the shopping cart, what ever).
That is the reason why I am asking to implement the possibilities for a offline DB on the remote.
Interesting idea

Introduction of popup messages to indicate the song being played (I like the management of musicbee which also lets you indicate how many seconds the popup should display at the end of the song and how many at the beginning)
Obviously it can be enabled and disabled

Ability for Media Server to be assigned which folders/file groups/file types/etc are to be served and have it ONLY serve those files which fit the set criteria. Or, have the ability to have it serve a library other than the one loaded.

Some dialog boxes for setting options open too big to see the 'Save/Close' buttons and are not resizable. This is a problem on some laptops and displays that need to be at 125% so text can be read from the sofa (my TV connected to my media machine for example).

This.  If you read the thread I linked to, that is what was described, and that is the way Matt said it worked. And that is the way it used to work.  It was later changed (a change not listed in the changelog) to the current behavior, which is a 15sec timer.

DLNA is fast becoming the main mode of operation for most people due to the popularity of streaming services. So support for services like Tidal on Mac is essential for me.

I did stop updating MC from v24 due to lack of DSP and Tidal support of DLNA streaming. I use Audirvana (Mac) instead. I must admit though that I miss the flexibility and rich metadata/audio management of MC.

Please add a [playlist] variable when syncing playlists to sd cards or flash drives.

So if I sync a playlist called 80s Pop, and one called 90s Rock. I can have it sync in a folder structure like:

80s Pop
  Song 1
  Song 2
  Song 3
90s Rock
 Song 1
 Song 2

My couple of suggestions are pretty basic, but I believe very useful (for me at least):
1. Have an optional waveform of the track played above the time line.
2. When you rest your pointer at some point of the time line (while playing) I'd rather be able to see the time code of that position instead of the currently playing one, which is visible at the top anyway.

Things I'm looking forward to:
- Full Featured Android / Android TV Version (as Library Server Clients)
- Better /  More Flexible Transcoding Options for serving Video to client or making offline versions
- Support for Streaming Services

Bugs & Annoyances I'd love to see fixed:

- On upgrading copy over the Thumbnail DB so we don't have to rebuild

My main use of MC is audio playing  via PC server to a dedicated system. I
One thing I would like to be considered (and I have brought this up previously) is a better interface to allow the use of the various internet radio stations that are available around the world.

I know we have radio paradise and streaming of BBC  as options (among others) but there's so much more available out there and a way of playing these stations without having to resort to individual playlists (which is how I seem to have to do it now) would be great.
We should improve the add to playlist process.

Considering Media Center nor JRiver supports MQA (though apparently you can pass MQA through if you use no DSP and have volume set to 100% but it's not officially supported), I personally wouldn't be surprised if that doesn't happen. :P

A feature I believe is missing (sorry if its a bit long winded)

I am fully aware of the debate around "On Demand Streaming" like Tidal etc and of JimH's concerns re the financial viability of these providers but Amazon HD entering the arena puts a different spin on things. Amazon is far from broke and is unlikely to follow the viability path that concerns Jim around the likes of Tidal, so Hi Fi streaming looks like its here to stay

I would imagine the other 2 biggies Apple and Google will sit up and change there minds on MP3/AAC and lo fi offerings and step up to compete with Amazon on the Lossless and even HD front (albeit Amazon see HD as CD quality). Bandwidth i so cheap these days.

Currently the only way to get Tidal (and Qobuz, Idagio , Primephonic etc) into a Hi Fi system is the Cast from a mobile device or bluetooth it neither of which counts as Hi Fi to me. The inability of an ethernet source to a reliable streamer (Cambridge Audio CXN in my case) means that streaming services will always be lo fi unless you get into bed with the opposition (ie Roon, Audirvana etc)

That said I don't want to do because neither offer any customization of the views I am used to with MC, the primary reason I maintain 2 libraries. Their interfaces are "What you Get" with little customization other than sortnig options.

I know there have been great strides to streaming in MC but not in the On Demand mode its more  a "Radio Station" approach. On my CXN App I have access to the whole of Tidal & Spotify along with my DLNA server and Internat Radio but the app is extremely weak compared with JRemote so I am reluctant to follow that route.

I am not sure how difficult the coding would be but others have done it. I think its hard to deny that Streaming a la Tidal, Amazon, Google, Apple etc is the future. Why buy when you can rent approach is prevailing in the younger audience albeit somewhat lo fi on Cell Phones and the like. Maybe oldies with a collection are different.

We are being robbed of Hi Fi offerings by not having even rudimentary integration of streaming service.

I openly admit I am using Roon to provide me with this service but I have update (Loyally since V17 I may add) to version 26 and actively split my use between the 2 apps depending on my needs. I would dearly love to maintain ONE library and multiple streaming services but currently I can't as I miss out on these streaming service.

There is active discussion on Amazon integration with Roon at present , not sure what will come of it.

I am not trying to be contentious or threatening , I will continue to upgrade annually regardless but as a regular user I think you are missing an opportunity here.

I second this. At the very least can we at have graphs to show what x-overs/filters we have input. @mattkhan calls graphs a sanity check - I absolutely agree.

I had a long trial of Roon recently and although I still prefer JRiver, Roon's DSP graphs were helpful even if lacking in detail.

Pls don’t forget SSA/ASS subtitles :)
I recorded a quick video demonstrating why Media Center's subtitle support is bad: complex subtitles are rendered incorrectly, and cause the video to drop frames - to the point that it loses sync with the other player.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oc8hK0ASWo8

This, and Media Center's UI stalling the GPU, are the two biggest issues it has right now.
JRemote still not supporting full-screen playback on the latest iPads almost one year later is pretty bad too.

Post by: Hendrik on October 20, 2019, 04:51:50 pm
We've already committed to working on ASS subtitles, which for the record is very much a feature, since no code is "wrong", a lot of it is quite simply missing for advanced formatting.

For your UI glitch, we haven't been able to reliably reproduce any problems, which makes it really hard to even diagnose any issues.

I don't remember exactly when the ver. 25 have come (april this year!?). I think, i have to do some searching on this matter. Anyway I was expected a feature which you announce on this vers. 25, but it seemes it was forgotten. The addition of related artist.  Good Idea

I was waiting eagerly for that addition but it seems it will not come. My question is this still coming on this version or on next, or never?.

And another question is, the current version is still getting any updates/features or you pass the move on the next one. Because i don't want again to see new features be added but never added or moved to the next version. I will be your loyal customer and upgrade to the new version but hoping that some of your features will not be forgotten.

Thanks for the effort put in your product and move forward.

I've been making changes in my setup and am surprised to find that multi-monitor support seems to be quite lacking in Media Center - or I'm completely missing something about it.
The only option I can find moves the entire Media Center window to the other display when playback starts, and restores it when playback stops.
It's either that, or manually starting playback, detaching the display, moving it to the other monitor, and making it full-screen - which has to be set up again every time Media Center is restarted.
Having a "detached display (full-screen) on monitor #" option for the "jump on playback" behavior settings would probably be ideal. Better yet, this would be set per-zone so it never has to be changed and can be set up with a zone for each display.

For your UI glitch, we haven't been able to reliably reproduce any problems, which makes it really hard to even diagnose any issues.
It should be easy to reproduce but I'll find something that is free which shows the issue and write steps to reproduce it.

I agree with a lot of folks about the Theater View getting a more fluid and modern update.

If that is being worked on, one major complaint from me is the fact that Theater View uses so much gpu processing while doing nothing.
I do recall Jim explaining that Theater View is refreshing and that's why it uses the gpu.  I'm no programmer, but something seems inefficient in the coding.
I play 4K video files, and my processor and gpu are barely being used.  However, if I stop playing a video file and just leave it on Theater View, my system starts heating up because the gpu is being used almost entirely.
I could reboot my system, start MC, leave it on Theater View, same thing.
If I play music, same thing.  This has always been a thing with MC.

I tried out Kodi just to test that out, but it doesn't use all that processing power from the gpu just to display their UI.  And Kodi has a far more graphical menu compared to MC.
Again, I'm not a programmer so I don't know, but it just seems like something about Theater View runs very inefficient.

When restoring a library backup, currently we have the options to restore Files and Playlists, as well as Settings. Can we get a third option that restores the Media Network Access (http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Network_Access) Key too?
We could then uncheck this if we wanted to have identical libraries or settings on multiple machines, without them conflicting when it comes to Media Network keys.

Please start a new thread on this.  It's not normal.  Could be a driver problem.  Could be background processing for building thumbnails, analyzing audio, etc., but that should stop after a few hours maximum.

Theater View options allow you to specify the frame rate and drawing quality.  On a weak processor, they might need to be reduced.

I'll split this later unless you start a thread.

Just as easy to DIY. Creating additional dialogs and popups and input mechanisms when the functionality is already there is kind of pointless. In fact, the best option is to eschew the reverse naming scheme altogether and use values that match the fields and leverage the database to do the work.

In addition to existing Import Playlist functionality, please add -

Import Playlist function that logically searches library for matching track "candidates" - based upon Track:

[Name]
[Artist]
[Album] option
[Track #] option
[Duration] option

Variables with "option" may be selectively included/excluded from match criteria prior to importation

This would allow more robust "3rd party" playlist importation success - without need for exact file path characteristics in local library

Please could you come up with a better fix for playing DSD through DLNA.

1. Sorting out the capacity for Sony players to play DSD over DLNA without having to manually amend the Fileassocianions.xml file

2. A fix for gapless playback with DSD. Having 1 song file together with a cue file should work (in theory) under Mode - Specified Format Only When Necessary. However it doesn't work properly... If you select, skip or play any song in the album, it just goes back to the beginning of the album (file).

Thanks

I also would like to have optimized the tagging feature, as I use additionally programs like BeaTunes and Jaikoz, so that I get a really extensive Tag-Dump.

This has been discussed multiple times here on the forums. MC uses its own system for drawing menus, and I would guess supporting the "native" Mac menus isn't an easy thing to do at all.

Well... this might be the case, but it was asked for feature requests and this is one. Other programs like BeaTunes who are also available in a Windows version do support the MAC menu style. So this not a problem that can't be solved. However, this is just a feature request... nothing more. Take it, or leave it.

An easy one: If Theater View is displaying recorded shows, that list should update when a new show begins recording.
Done

Harder: "Stop" button stops working sometimes while watching live TV. The only way to get it to work again is, while the live TV is still playing, start playing a recorded show. Then the stop button always works again. Two completely different Win10 systems at my house show this behavior from time to time.
Is this still happening?

I'd like the ability to create a smart list that will determine each song in the playlist based on the previous song, given some set of criteria.
For example, a "Rock through history" playlist might start with a song from a specified year; the next song would be from the next year, and so on.
Another example: A playlist might start with a random song; the next song would have some common Person with the first; the third song would have some common Person with the second; and so on.

It seems to me that Play Doctor does something like this. So, I'm curious if it's that big a leap to enable this feature.

Been a JRiver annual upgrader since version 18, and on the Mac since v20 or so. Very happy as long as it continues to improve, which it has.
My final and rather aspirational idea comes from a few years of recent experience of using Apple's Final Cut Pro X video editor. There is this concept of "Workspaces" within the Windows menu, where you can quickly show, hide, arrange, or size any of the components or panels you want to work with for a given task, then customize and save them so you can quickly toggle the environment for those tasks.

So for example, if I want to manage and tag Movies, I might want all of my panels, thumbnails, tagging window, etc. to immediately configure, size, and/or render themselves a certain way. If working with Audio or Images, I might want something different. But I can have the tree view, tag editor, content panels, etc. all show/hide, arrange, and size themselves based on what I'm doing, and "Hide" all the things I do NOT want to use. Basically I want to tailor, simplify, and focus the interface for what I'm doing.

Today, most of the interface is fixed and I have to do a lot of clicking to set things up the way I want. Panel Views are cumbersome to use. The "Favorites" menu bar option starts to walk down this path a bit, but only goes a few steps. If this is at all unclear, which would not be surprising because I'm not great at describing it, just watch some recent YouTube videos on using "Final Cut Pro X Workspaces".

Interesting Idea

+1 for improved skins, particularly on the Mac. Right now they are all very 2005 Windows XP-ish.

Try the Modern Cards: Grey Edition (which matches the light theme macOS aesthetic) or the Modern Cards: Dark Edition (which matches the dark theme macOS aesthetic) skins. They should fit pretty well on macOS.

It is possible that this has been done since I last upgraded but here goes....

It would be great to have some simple keyboard commands or macros to select an entire playlist and clear it.   I do not think there is a command similar to Control A which selects everything to remove everything from the now playing list.  I would love to just hit some kind of keyboard command (say Command R) and automatically clear out the now playing list with actually clicking on a track, hitting control A, then going into the menu and pulling down "remove from this list".

Hi!

Would upgrade if:

- When auto stacking will have a better popup window - Drop-down list with extension types of selected files, with default checkbox (can be default per view, or per file types selected, or maybe priority list).
- When dragging and dropping a stack to a folder, popup window to ask which type to copy.
- Proper IPTC tag support.
- Copy tags between files based on file name (selecting JPGs -> right click -> Library Tools -> Copy Fields Between Files -> popup with check box fields to be copied -> selecting RAWs -> right click -> Library Tools -> Paste Fields. The action will be to paste the fields based on file name matching).
- As requested several times before - proper support for Right-to-Left languages! Typing in a field is just a bad joke...  :(

Thanks,
Uri.

There is a "Clear Playing Now" button you can add to the Toolbar in Standard View. See "Customise Toolbar".

1/Many are complaining about the UI although JRiver people doesn't like we say that because complains are not specific enough. Some other music players are looking much more modern such as plex or roon or audirvana but we cannot switch to them as they don't do one per cent of what is doing JRiver. Personnally I am quite satisfied with black on black UI although even in that  case  JRiver remains really a finger hater. When I travel I use my Microsoft Surface and I cannot use JRiver MC as well as I can use windows explorer  with my fingers. Theater wiew is a better solution than panel for finger use but in both case they are not satisfactory as we often need to go to settings and on panel we don't have accesss to the tags.
So my first request is to get the UI as finger friendly as windows explorer.

2/When I listen to Qobuz a streaming service, I just set the application output to JRiver  WDM driver to benefit from JRiver machines such as convolution. However it would be nice to have streaming services such as Qobuz , Tidal  and probaly a few others fully integrated. Even a very small company like bubbleupnp integrates Qobuz and Tidal on their android application so I believe JRiver can do it on windows.

Full integration of Tidal would be mandatory for me, as all the offered options are useless.
I understand this does not seem to happen. I just do not understand why, when considering the importance of streaming today.
It adds up to my frustration with MC for years, where nothing major happened (I use MC for audio only, and this is where you should have stayed. Focusing on video was worst decision ever.). I will stay with MC25, no annual fee (oops, upgrade fee) for me anymore, as long as Tidal is not fully integrated.
Title: Re: Feature Requests

I fear you are correct in your pessimism for Tidal. As far as I know Amazon has launched at a lower price that either Tidal or Qobuz .

Amazon will no doubt bulldoze its way. If MC is to integrate a service the it would be Amazon no doubt to be in keeping with JimH's view of financial viability.

Its also a big player in Roon's survival IMHO , as losing Tidal or Qobuz without a replacement would be a big blow to them.

To me its a bit academic as Amazon don't have a foothold in South Africa yet, they barely allow imports from the US in many cases , so we wait . The US market is clearly the first target.

I still maintain 2 systems to keep my options open

This seems simple and I am surprised it hasn't been done yet.

-In Windows Explorer, put a JRiver icon next to the right click context menu item "Play in Media Center".
Good Idea

It always takes a long uncomfortable moment when I am using a mouse in Windows Explorer to send stuff to JRiver, and I do it a lot. This will help us visually track where the option is in an often crowded context menu. Almost all other programs do this.

Concerning user entered URL for internet radio as seen here:
https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Connected_Media

I like how they can be tagged and used in custom views and wouldn't want to change that. But instead of them going under "Web Media" it would be nice if they had their own section under Streaming that is basically identical to podcasts. They could be named upon creation and all show up in an expandable tree menu called something like "User Stations".

My final idea/request (for now):

When backing up a library add an option to include thumbnails and possibly Cover Art folder (yes it will be large).

When importing a library add the option to only import certain pieces of it. Each item could have the option to overwrite or addend current.

Pieces I can think of off the top of my head:
- Custom Resources
- Database
- Auto Import folders/options
- Views Standard
- Views Theatre
- Custom Fields
- Podcasts
- Playlists
- Smartlists
- Tag Window Options
- Zones

Not only would it make it easier to copy settings between PCs, it would make it easier for different users to share configurations.

a couple i've made some workarounds for but could be helpful. if i'm crazy and these things are already possible, would love to be called out! (:

1. floating tag window, or allow tagging UI as an overlay while playing a video (so that i dont have to exit full-screen to select Keywords or add Notes)

2. maybe a new feature under Cover Art menu that generates contact sheet style thumbnail grids and sets as the cover art. user can define in settings the number of rows, columns etc.

Great idea and great reasons. Possibly include in this list:

- Custom Track Info Art (or whatever its officially called)

C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center 25\Data\Custom Art

Its the user created optional replacement image that gets used instead of MC's default image for Track Info when an audio file has no album art. You can choose your own image! I think you have to rename the image to logo.jpg. But it doesn't get copied during version upgrades so you have to copy it yourself every time you upgrade.

I also think party mode needs some love.

1) When removing a track often dialogues come up like "do you want to remove from the media library" or something (can't remember exact steps to repro). It doesn't happen permanently but this is misleading and a little frightening.

2) By default "playing now" list should appear.

3) It would be good to get the "playing now" window to persist all the time. For instance when I go to AUDIO -> Files .. and select a track under there it will disappear. Not particularly user friendly for those not familiar with MC.

3) The default mode should add a selected queue to a visible playlist (e.g. playing now), otherwise people can accidentally (or on purpose if drunk enough ;) ) stop the current music playing.

4) See (3). Would be nice to have an option to stop people from cancelling or deleting playlist items altogether.

Ultimately it would be nice to have something really user friendly, make it just like a jukebox... hey why not make it look like a jukebox?

The stock standard views called "Files" in each of the Audio, Video etc. Media Type trees be renamed to Audio Files, Video Files etc. ("[Media Type] Files", generically-speaking).

That way when multiple tabs are open in Standard View, all the views called "Files" can be distinguished from one another at a glance, without needing to delve into each one.

Currently I rename them manually, but I think it would be a useful default for everyone.

To JRiver team, my request:

Make Group Delay correction, maybe you know there is such a function in Dirac Live.
It’s probably difficult to implement, it will take a lot of time but... maybe in J.river 28  :).

Make it so that on a multi-disc album, the user can choose to play the specific disc. By this I mean:

Play
Play Disc #: (dropdown choice)
Play (shuffled)
Play (with Play Doctor)

Same with add to playing now.

And obviously, the ability to do both in JRemote.

This should be a simple request.  I've asked before for this.  I read you are cleaning up subtitles.  I would like to see a tag field that shows if subtitles are present in the file.  Even better would be what type of subtitles are present (.ass, .srt, etc).

Thanks for a great product!

It would be nice to have a visual indication at what volume level JRiver is set at even when the program window is completely minimized. I do not want the Mini View floating in the background all the time or have to switch and maximize JRiver just to see what volume I'm at... The same way when one is pressing certain keys in Windows e.g. "caps lock" an indicator pops up either near the center of the screen or the bottom corner.

JRiver in my computer is always running in the background (minimized) and I route Firefox, Spotify, Amazon Music, Netflix etc. audio into JRiver. I adjust volume using my keyboard's volume shortcut keys. There needs to be an option to enable the display of an indicator when certain shortcut keys are pressed e.g. mute, volume increase (dB or %) and decrease at the very least. I tire of having to switch into and out from the main JRiver program window.

More and more people are using the WDM driver for streaming services etc. 'Visual' ergonomics and useability is more important than one might realize...

Oh, and maybe find a way to incorporate the Microsoft Surface Dial as a remote control device -- even just for some simple tasks at remote volume control etc.

Probably not able to do this, but...

I'm late to the Sonos party, and I understand these probably aren't doable, but they would make life easier.

FWIW, JRiver successfully recognizes my Sonos speaker as a zone, and I can switch zones in JRiver and JRemote and, with the right settings on the Sonos zone, even get JRiver to transcode high definition FLAC to a setting that the Sonos supports. Sounds great!

But--zone switching in JRemote is a PITA (you can't do it unless you're in settings, pretty much), and pretty flaky too--I have to restart JRemote a lot of times for it to work. It would be so great to have a local DLNA JRiver view within the Sonos app itself (I dunno--maybe Plex inside Sonos would connect as a network client? Is that a viable workaround?).

This would also be terrific for the new streaming JRiver service, though I understand it would have to be 16/44 FLAC stream.

I also understand if this can't be done. I just want to make things easier to integrate and switch apps less often :)

1. This feature I found in trackstore and it is sooo useful:
right-click a track gives you the option "search for playlists" which then gives a pop up with a list of all the playlists containing this track. Then you can click one of those.

2. Short cut to Audio (e.g. in the custumize toolbar?): When I have the tree of the playlists open I need to scroll miles up to get to the "audio" button. - Done

Any chances for those?

Please add the ability to burn a CD compilation to the Mac version as in the Windows version. I know it was decided for us that we didn't need it but I really miss creating CD compilations not only for my car, but to give out . Also, to friends when I turn someone on to a new artist I'll make them a CD of a few tracks which usually leads to them purchasing the retail albums.

Would like to know if this will ever be implemented. I'm in need of a new MAC and I'll go back to MC for Win if I can't get ever have this on the MAC.

Fully implement Multimedia Class Scheduler Service

Set JRiver to High (23-26) - This category is designed for Pro Audio tasks.
Is there any scope for improving JRiver’s windows priority by higher I/O rate, changing windows power profile?

And if possible staying away from congested CPU core 1 on the audio process.

Looking forward to MC26.

15.0.110 (9/14/2010)

1. NEW: Core audio engine uses "Multimedia Class Scheduler Service" on Vista and newer to promote the main audio delivery thread to a higher priority.

MC automatically uses Multimedia Class Scheduler Service (MCSS) in an ideal way.  There's no need to adjust anything.

How about support for handling video with H.265 encoding?  For playback, metadata editing and as a media conversion option.

Hardware these days is quite a bit more powerful than when MC first started, it'd be handy to have support for this.  Especially with playback over bandwidth-constrained channels (like cell data or other remote links).

Granted, spinning rust disk space is cheaper than ever, but as more folks move to SSD the spectre of limited space comes back from the grave.  Especially with 4K and greater resolutions.

H.265 is seeing a lot of growth, it'd be nice to have MC support it in a robust manner.

Please explain in more detail.
I've been missing kind of view (especially in theaterview and jremote) which shows common data for grouped objects. So e.g. for Series Seasons I could see Series information then when I go to season and I could see information common to that season. Similarly for music Artist data >> album data. Currently we can only see detailed information on track level. For Artist I could be interested e.g for bio, genres & such. On album level maybe reviews etc. All the information for the grouped views could still come from the individual tracks which that group includes.

Inluded some images / fast mockups using current design to illustrate... picture 02 is not possible currently and it is just a quick mockup but which I would assume wouldn't be that hard to implement to existing design and wouldn't break current navigation. Of course there must be way then to tell what to show when there are multiple level of groupings e.g. Artist >> Album >> Track so that Artist level would show diferent data thatn album level...

Good Idea

Hey there. I ask this feature or implementation a while ago, but seems it was forgotten. So i will try again maybe it will be a lucky day, when you gone implemented a sort to left/center/right on thumbnail views?. I'm trying some views and arrange my data in this view, but the problem is that you cant fix your title to right or left because you have different size of char. And a better solution is to implemented this feature because we have that choice in file view. Cross finger :).
I can do some work around on the right side of text, by adding some space and count the number of space needed it, but the problem is, if you change the size of thumbnail all the work is wasted so you gone take it from zero.

Hi Jim,

What I'd like to accomplish would basically mirror what other products offer, without relying on databases from 3rd parties.

This would be much more powerful under MC IMO, because of the endless customization possibilities. Having a way to define user-specified fields for grouped items would allow the creation of detailed views (artist, composer, album, label, genre, etc.) with specific information retrieved from those fields (description, review, location, members, production notes, etc.).

A simple example :
For classical music views, I like to sort composers by year of birth (YOB) or year of death (YOD). To do this with the current version of MC, I could either :

Having a user-friendly way to define fields at the Composer-level (or artist-level, album-level, genre-level, etc.) would be so much easier :)

Thanks for considering this !

Right click on Playing Now in the tree on the left.

Don't know if this is the right place to add something, but i was thinking maybe added as a feature or it is a bug. Right now when you add simple text on thumbnail view, the number of lines is respected. But if you start adding html text inside of that view, the number of lines on thumbnail is ignored and it doesn't count like without simple text. I saw this behavior when you start using different fonts in the expression editor, it just overwrite the number of lines in thumbnail.
And another thing about thumbnail. When limit the number of lines there, if the characters is more than the thumbnail can show it will goes on the next line and those will just overwrite that line, but instead it is possible to add a way to make the characters truncate in that line and not adding to the next line!? The purpose of those lines is to show the number of those lines and not cover them if the number of characters is way to long.
Thanks.

I would love to see a streamlined stepup for a 'real' https certificate for secure server authentication.

I managed to set this up via letsencrypt and duckdns, but it was a major pain to accomplish and by the time it came around to renew the security certificate, I totally forget how to do it. I just took the server off the internet and kept in on my LAN.

I'd rather not have an open port on my router without Https, and I also don't want to deal with my browser asking me to roll back security settings every time I go to panel, like I do using the local host https option.

PS: Here is a good example why a true default https authentication is important.  Once you open a port on your router, it will be found and documented by websites like this:

I don't know much about how people are actually doing things I just open a port and let the traffic through, seeing as no one can know my key..  But assuming   apache or nginx  are somehow involved in your  letsencrypt certs,  then there are plenty of tutorials on setting up an auto-renew script,  I use  certbot  on domains I need SSL connections from.

I don't know much about how people are actually doing things I just open a port and let the traffic through, seeing as no one can know my key.

I believe it works like this: If your device can't connect to the local address, it sends a 6 character key to JRiver Central. JRC looks up the key (one of 20,358,520 possible values, assuming the key is 6 upper case or lower case characters) and sends you the last known public IP address and port. Your device then attempts to contact that IP address over that port, authenticating with a username and password that JRC doesn't know. So it doesn't matter if anyone knows your key. If they attempt to connect to your IP address on whatever port you've opened, all they need to know is the username/password combo.

This is a feature I've been working around for as long as I learned how to manipulate graphic images in theater view.  Its a real P.I.T.A. to have to load the images into each server/client tooltip folder.  Instead, there should be a mechanism to point to a network drive location as a common repository for all of the files currently stored in /J River/Media Center 25/Data/Tooltip

Is it possible to add some sort of buffer or priority for streaming audio over the network?
Sometimes I get disconnects from my desktop streaming audio to my ultraRendu which (I think) may be caused by heavy usage of the network on the desktop.
This would be the equivalent of buffer sizes for local playback... if possible, I don't know.
Thanks.

That isn't normal. That sounds more like a Media Network/DLNA issue.

Start a thread and ask for help.

Make the Import Summary window go away after a few minutes.  Preferably logged somewhere.

 - Would like to be able to launch MC26 on a mac and for the media keys to 'just work' immediately not to have to click on the main window then hit a key then click again then minimize it, etc.

 - Would like for it to transition a pause to a stop and let go of core audio allowing a mac to sleep after 5 min of pause.  hitting play again should still resume the song as though it were paused.

 - Fixes for all the weird window glitching on move/resize/minimize/relaunch issues on mac.

 - Window resize drag arrows on mac to match the arrows used by all other apps on a mac and not related to skin or retina etc.

 - Ability to set the target volume for volume leveling with the R128 default level as just a default setting and ident on the slider.

Something I would really love to see in MC26 is the ability to be able to remotely schedule TV recordings.

There are times when I am out and realize I haven't scheduled a sporting event or show I really wanted to record.

To be able to connect to my MC server, via Panel and/or JRemote2 and schedule the recording would be awesome!!

Thanks

Standard View/Tree: Remember expanded/collapsed items.

Let's say I prefer to always keep Playlists, Smart Playlists, Drives & Devices and a few custom items expanded. For some reason, every time Media Center starts it will collapse everything. Not fun having to always re-expand the same items.

I found a very old (https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=36023.0) similar request but to be honest, I didn't make much sense out of it.

Album rating field with stars please, that you can also just give stars to in thumbnail view.

I've searched and people came up with workarounds to get this to work but it's incredibly messy or doesn't function well. It's the only thing I miss from other players like Roon and MusicBee.

I'm still waiting for IPTV support.  I know it has been asked in the past, but seems to always get swept under the rug.  There may be a reason for this, that i am ignorant to, and if so I am very sorry.  I love using JRiver as my media center, but keep having to switch to a different application to watch IPTV.

In a Panes view, I'd like to have the possibilty to create different "columns" within the same category, giving more flexibility to sort items, ala Windows Explorer.

As an example, see the last category in the attached image, where I've created three "columns", i.e., Original Release Date / Album Rating / Album Artist - Album.

- When I split the view I'd like to have two rows and one column. Now I have to choose between columns only or rows only

- In the context menu of Playing Now view I'd like to have the abilities to queue the tracks and decide the playing order without change the position of the tracks.
Also "Skip this track" could be a useful entry

How about being able to configure what happens when you wake your HTPC from standby with JRiver running, especially in a client/server setup. At the moment a client just seems to wake up wherever it was at the point it went to sleep, and may or may not reconnect to the server. It would be good if there was some control or options.

It would be nice to be able to change sorting order while in Theater View. I know you can set how you want. But whichever one you choose your locked into that mode.
Some Series lets say Star Wars - Clone Wars you might want to watch by it's timeline instead of episode order.

More ways for Cover Art.
Currently for any Group of files your left with.
Artist, Album, Series, Season

I'm sure there are many different ways to fix this.
1. Let us add as many Folders as we want. M:\Cover Art\Insert Field Here
2. Maybe some kind of expression - If [Sub-Genre] = Trinity - Than Use [Series] Trinity (which is simply a picture file)
3. Add more to the list you already have

The field I'm finding I need most would be for one I created called Sub-Genre.
Yea I could just use the list style - Just seems like the icon view works better sometimes.

Example:
Genre - Christian                         Genre-Politics                  Genre-Health          Documentary
Sub-Genre                                   Sub-Genre                      Sub-Genre             Sub-Genre
Prophecy                                     Economy                         Vaccines                History
Trinity                                         Abortion                          Drugs                    Creation/Evolution
Faith                                           Military                            GMO's                   Wildlife
Antichrist                                    Healthcare                       Organic                 Technology
and many others

Although I never upgraded to MC 25 from my MC 24 license, I took the plunge and paid for MC 26 when it was marked down. One thing I'd like to see as new feature or improvement.

JRSS downmixing from multichannel to stereo: I wish there was some flexibility to change or improve the quality. I have a handful of multichannel files in my library and they always sound thin and deficient when downmixed with MC24. Perhaps this is unavoidable in taking six tracks and mixing them down to two. Anyway, I am a stereo listener and I am not going to upgrade to surround in the foreseeable future, so if there is room for improvement on JRSS downmixing that would be great.

I know that MC25, which I do not have because I didn't pay to upgrade, introduced HDCD playback, and I assume this will continue to be a part of MC26, but I don't understand how it works. Does the HDCD decoding in JRiver only happen when playing a disc in my computer optical drive (which I don't even know if that drive decodes HDCD)? I used dBpoweramp CD Ripper to rip all of my HDCD discs (I only have about a dozen, less than 1% of my entire disc library) and I ripped those discs twice, once as 16/44 AIF files and again with CD Ripper HDCD DSP selected which ripped the discs as 24/44 AIF. So which of those two rips do I play in JRiver that it somehow decodes? I don't understand this feature at all, how it works. Please point me to the thread where it is explained. It's a minor issue since there is such a marginal and probably imperceptible improvement with HDCD decoding that I'm guessing it won't matter much to be able to hear them at 20-bit instead of 16-bit.

If you bought MC26 … you can install MC25 (latest version) - MC26 license covers that

MC detects HDCD metadata hidden in normal 16/44 (need to run audio analyze with HDCD detection enabled) … when you rip HDCD to 16/44 (properly … 1:1 copy without reencoding … which dbPoweramp does), HDCD metadata is not lost … you just need to know how to use it (which MC does)

Once MC knows 16/44 rip has HDCD metadata, it applies it on fly (ie in real time … so theoretically you do not need 22/44 rip … unless you plan to play HDCD rip  on something that cannot apply HDCD metadata in real time)

PS … analyzing audio is LOOOONG … you can save time by only analyzing rips that you know have HDCD in them … downside to this is some CDs have HDCD but do not indicate it on cover :/ (so unless you analyze all … can never be sure)

This is helpful to know. I am not going to bother installing MC25 and then turn around and get MC26, I can wait. But it should be easy to analyze my HDCD discs since I know exactly which ones are HDCD (assuming the info on Discogs is correct, and every single CD I own is saved in my collection on there so I can look up the pressing, year and format details etc). No big time expense analyzing a dozen discs.

I was bummed when Jim told me that JRiver will not be working to integrate Qobuz streaming, now or ever. Because I'm having compatibility issues trying to get Qobuz run exclusive audio output to the same DAC and driver that serves as my principle DAC on MC24. Qobuz is working to get this running smoothly, I think it is a bug in their Wasapi exclusive mode.

I guess I will look for an email in my inbox when MC26 is released. Thanks.

I sure hope they make some improvements in Theater View for MC26 and your suggestion would be a valued and important addition to MC.
Along with, as I would like to see, an alphabetic ruler of sort so that the viewer easily could move around using only the arrow keys on the remote.

Wonder why these kind of suggestions never gets implemented?

I have multi movement classical works linked together. However, when volume leveling is enabled, volume changes from track to track.

Can linked tracks be set to use the uniform album volume leveling tag, so they don't jump volumes from track to track?

Hello. One request or a feature if it possible. I'm trying a way to do something but, the limitation is force me to cant do what i desire. Which i come to ask this as a request or feature. It is possible to make the list size on tag window, automatic resize on the size of the image which you included in this https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,121636.0.html, where you can add images, use different size, but it seems that work only on tooltips and not other places. Right now if we use the image(custom) in tag window it show the album of that selected file. Or a way to implemented to add different image file in the way you added in image(custom).
Thanks.

I wish that DSP Parametric Equalizer had an option to import the REW EQ text file. I know there is some option somewhere to generate a WAV file and import it, but having both options would be ideal. I was typing 16 x 3 parameters yesterday... Plus a calculated gain reduction to avoid clipping.

I would like to be able to make "Zoneswitch" automatic in a playlist or "Playing Now" if possible.  I have a few 3.1 files that require their own setup/zone and other files on video/DVD-A/SACD that also have their own setup/zone.  It would be nice if I can put them all in one playlist where they just play one after the other.

As it is now, each is a separate player and can't follow in sequence (At least that's how it works for me).   Would be a nice M26 upgrade.  ;)

Hello. I know the MC26 is available now, but i want to see if this has any chance as a feature request. As right now the expression field in window tag is show only one line, and if i add a field with a list mode in that expression field it shows as a string and not as a list mode. It is a way to break this using (&datatype=[ list]) and show that expression in a list view instead. I know i can do it by using the listlimit(), but the problem there, is sometimes it can get more than one value, and the rest of none info it show a white space.

When playing a playlist (any playlist, smart, random or otherwise) if I hear a song I really like it would be cool to *easily* insert the entire album from which that song came from into the playlist; starting at the next track in the playlist.

Would be great if Houseband could support such a command. "Alexa tell Houseband to insert the current album" or something such as that.

Hope that makes sense.

In Theater Mode, Pls make a sorting option available to show albums of an artist appear in release Date order.

This is already the default display method of albums of an artist in the standard view. Why change in theater view ?

In a discography, which most of us have, it is pointless to show albums in alphabetical order of an artist. There should be a sort option for albums by release date..

Or is there a way to do this already?

An option so that, when JRiver is in Internal Volume mode, it mirrors the volume setting of the sound device. This would let us more conveniently control volume when using ASIO/WASAPI-X output, especially in combination with the new "Hot Keys (ignore volume)" mode for media keys.

- Updated UI (I'm using Modern Cards), just some minor tweaks here and there. Increase the size of things that can be dragged and clicked, like volume slider and the triangles that open and close and hide various parts of the interface (such as left pane and now playing queue).

- Allow easy selection of accent color to change for example volume bar and waveform.

- Add option for subtle rounding of thumbnail corners.

- Sometimes a video thumbnail is a frame that does not look good (like black frame or fade in/out). One can right-click and choose Rebuild Thumbnail, but that builds the same one (x seconds as configured in settings). Please add a second Rebuild Thumbnail context menu item that advances a couple of frames. Or perhaps thumbnail generation could intelligently avoid dark/black frames automatically.

Hi Roderick. My preference is for the horizontally scrolled cover view, 3 rows high. The elastic animation just makes it a bit harder to use when you have lots of media. I think the option to disable it and to have page up/down = left/right would make it more usable.

HALF STAR RATING SYSTEM.

Too often I have songs that sits right between two stars and I have no way of sorting them or creating playlists based on how I really would rate them, and end up having to lump them together with other songs that I actually rate a bit lower or higher, and it's very annoying.

We've been asking for this for years, and I will not upgrade to any future version unless it has this feature (or equivalent of it, such as 1-10 system, or 100% system).

In this day and age, our entire civilization is accustomed to the 5-star with half star rating system populated by Amazon and other online review systems. It is the most ubiquitous and intuitive. It makes perfect sense to have it in the MC rating system. A close second would be movie review systems using the 1-10 (with decimal point) or 100% system, but some movie review systems also use the 5 star (with half star) system.

You can already rate things on a 1-10 scale.

Create a new field, name it whatever you want, and in the edit type section choose "Ten stars".

But can we use it instead of the 5 stars views, I think not. I mean to see and use it on top of JRiver and the same in JRemote

Thanks! I just tried it and it works. It would be nice to allow half-stars in a 5-star system though, so it takes up less room in the column width, and look cleaner/more intuitive visually. It much easier to identify a 3.5 star rating than a 7 star rating when you see rows and rows of a bunch of stars in a glance.

Provide a simple way to re-rip a CD collection. I ripped my entire collection ages ago and would prefer a higher quality format. I don't want to lose my tags, renamed tracks, # of plays, etc. I just want, for example, the 10 tracks I rip now to overwrite the 10 tracks I ripped before, replacing them even if the format is different.

When searching for a piece/file, jriver shows the coverart of the albums in which the piece exists, but when selecting one of these albums then the search filter is cancelled instead of drilling down.
Example: I go into Rock genre by Artist and do a search for "People are People" of Depeche Mode.  Search result is Depeche Mode showing a specific album cover but when I select it, jriver displays all Depeche Mode albums instead of displaying only the album with "People are People", so I have to run the search again to locate the specific album.

1) I applaud the new Stop After choices. Could Stop After also include a stop after "x" number of songs. Stopping at time intervals doesn't provide a clean stopping point for playback. Done

2) When I remote desktop in from my tablet to manage what's playing it would be nice to have a "tablet mode" button in Media Center to make management by touch easy to do

3) Export to iTunes should export ratings and other tags to iTunes. I still use MCiTunesSynchronizer to update the iTunes library

4) this request could possibly be the fault of my stereo equipment, however, during extended playback data from my desktop to my stereo gets out of sync. The song will start, then perhaps a minute into the song the title and cover art will appear. After awhile the song and data become so out of sync that playback fails.

I was trying this, but this URL returns an error:

While the US version works:

So I'm not sure we'll be able to do it unless we can find a work around.

The ID is different in every country, can't just change the domain only :D

Would be great if there was a setting to play the highest resolution audio file when there are duplicates.  My collection has many duplicates as I use mp3s for portable devices due to storage but prefer hi res at home.  MM has this feature which I thought was cool and avoided rearranging all my folders or libraries.  If this is a current feature, my apologies...couldnt find in a search.

Also would be great to have a link or integration with discogs.  I have a huge collection of vinyl and reels, so it would be cool to access everything in one hub.

Thanks for all the great work.  This is by far the best program I've tried.

I like the ability to edit / modify / rename the following tags (for video):

Last Played
Dimensions
Sample Rate
FPS
Date Imported
Date Created

Some of these are blank for imported .iso files and I'd like the ability to populate them with meaningful data.

Hi, I posted this in MC23 and again in MC26 https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,123580.msg855976.html#msg855976 (https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,123580.msg855976.html#msg855976)

I don't use playlists. My main use is similar to my LP or CD collection - to browse albums as the artist intended, by artist in alphabetic order. WMP has a view which let's me do just this with an identification (artist name) and a separator (new line) between each artist. I'd like this in JRiver as per the referenced post. Would have posted in Feature Requests back in MC23 but only just found it tonight. Hence this post. Now I have setup a media PC with big SSD, installed JRiver on tablet & PC & Phone, this is my last hurdle to ditching WMP entirely.

It's a browse GUI thing. I tend to think "hmm, what do I want to listen to next" rather than know exactly which artist or album I want. Then scan through my collection until I go "ah yes, that one". When I do the same with JRiver in Artist/Album view, the order is indeed correct but, unlike WMP, there is no marker for when one artist ends and another begins. I would be content (I think) with a thumbnail with "Artist Name" between each Artist listing if a line feed between Artists was a pain.

WMP does this as per: (https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=122571.0;attach=33780)

Thanks for the suggestion in the earlier post to Request a Feature (which I only found just now). Thanks for your consideration.

I would like to propose a feature request for adaptive depth in views. What do I mean with that? I have following problem:

My Audiobooks are currently categorized like this:
Genre --> Series --> Album

E.g.
Fantasy --> Lord of the Rings --> 1 - The Fellowship of the Ring
Fantasy --> Lord of the Rings --> 2 - The Two Towers
...

However, in some cases this kind of categorization is suboptimal and I would need a categorization scheme like this:
Genre --> Universe --> Series --> Album
(Universe is my term for franchise)

E.g.
Sci-Fi --> Star Wars --> The Old Republic --> 1 - Fatal Alliance
Sci-Fi --> Star Wars --> The Old Republic --> 2 - Deceived
...
Sci-Fi --> Star Wars --> Thrawn Trilogy --> 1 - Heir to the Empire
Sci-Fi --> Star Wars --> Thrawn Trilogy --> 2 - Dark Force Rising
...

Well currently you have three options:
- Make two views
- Use the second scheme with the universe category in which case you have to do an empty descend step for all audiobooks without universe
- Flatten all the audiobooks with a universe into a three level tree (Universe becomes Series and Album becomes the concatenation of Series and Album)

The last options is what I currently use, since I think it is the best option. However, since these universes tend to get bigger and bigger as time moves on and as I complete my collection, this makes more and more problems. E.g. the Perry Rhodan universe has 1000+ audiobooks. If i owned them all, the according view would have 1000+ entries.

This is also not the only place where I have this problem. E.g. in movies I have a similar problem.
Many movies are standalone and do not belong to a series or even a universe. Some are part of a series. Some are part of a series and a universe. And some are standalones in a universe.
E.g
Standalone:                        Inception
Series:                               Pirates of The Caribbean --> 1,2, ...
Universe + Series:               Marvel                          --> X-Men     --> 1,2, ...
Universe + Standalone:        Marvel                          --> Venom

A standalone movie only needs a view with depth 1, while a movie that is part of a universe and a series needs three levels of depth.

The fix this problem I would like the views to behave adaptive depending on if a tag is empty or not. When adding a category in a view there should be a checkbox "Skip if empty", which does exactly what it says.

E.g. lets say we have the view
[Universe] --> [Series] --> Movie                         (where the square brackets indicate optional (=skipped) categories)

This view would display all universes + all series without universes + all movies without series and without universes in the top level.
It would look like this:
- Inception
- Pirates of the Caribbean
- Marvel

The first entry would directly start the movie ("" --> "" --> Inception). The second entry would show the series subview ("" --> "Pirates of the Caribbean). The last entry
would show the universe subview (Marvel).

From the point of view of a user that would make MC not more complex (only one additional checkbox in a rarely visited submenu), but much more versatile and also more natural to use.

An easy request to make sorting in Views easier to manage:

When setting up or viewing a custom sort, please make the dialogue box wide enough to show the longest standard or custom fields being shown, as well as the direction of the sort, ascending or descending (a-z or z-a). Perhaps make the dialogue box adjustable, or make it automatically as wide as the widest field it is showing. Currently, I have to look at the column header to see if a sort if ascending or descending, which sometimes means temporarily adding the field to a column if it isn't already there, or moving it so can see it when managing sort order Presets.

See attached image.
My custom "Album Artist (auto)" sort (Yellow) is ascending, but when I view the Preset definition I can't see that (Red). I can see it in the column header (Green).

I'm having trouble with re-sync on Handheld Sync on MC25 on Mac, I'm hoping that MC26 will address this issue.

JRiver wants to re-sync ALL my song files each time I want to update the device with new songs -- If I go forward with the resync it will add a second copy of every song that is already there and will append the name with (1).

Therefore I have to completely erase the device and fully re-sync my handheld whenever I want to update the device.  This complete re-sync takes hours since my device holds 500GB (FiiO M11 with external card).

I've seen some posts about this issue and it apparently has to do with special characters in the audio path.   The workaround is quite messy and involves removing special characters, I feel that this should unnecessary and JRiver should be able to handle the range of the Mac characters that are allowed in a pathname.

Please let me know if there are plans to address this issue.
Thanks!

I'd love to see these display settings split as shown below.  I'm in the US, and my plasma display handles 25p video the same as it would 24p, treating it as film and displaying it at 25p.  But it won't do the same for 50i or 50p.  I have some 25p and some 50i video in my library, so splitting 25/50 into two settings would allow me to better control how each is displayed.

sci-fi     Star Wars     Old Republic   (book name)

Hello, I have 3 requests:

1. I would like "view audio mode" to be  a pure audio mode, where only audio files can be loaded in the playlist (no pictures, no m3u files, no videos - I haven't selected them in JRiver's supported files, but they still add themselves in the playlist).

2. I would like to be able to lock JRiver's position on the screen when it is not maximized, because many times I try to move the progress bar and accidentally I move the JRiver beyond the edges of the screen, or under under windows.

3. I would like some customization of the sox filter.

Thank you.

It would also be great if there was a drop-down that held a cache of perhaps 6 previous entries in "Find what:" and "Replace".
Furthermore could this cache of 6 be included in the F&R section of Move, Rename & Copy (F6 function)? (just the previous cache used in F6 - not the same as the first cache I mentioned)

Would like to be able to "right click" the currently playing file in the top display information area in standard view and get the same choices as when I "right click" the file in the "Playing Now" standard view list at the bottom of the display.

There's a reason why I still use external viewers/players for graphics/photos/comic books/home videos/movies... etc. With music, JRiver is almost perfect.

This may be very, very hard to believe, but JRiver does not yet have proper color management. Wide Gamut monitors are a thing, and they are becoming ever more common with the rise of UHD 4k content -- DCI-P3, BT.2020...

Firefox has it (if manually enabled). Chrome has it... MPC-HC/Media Player Classic has it... my 3rd-party file explorer and thumbnail/photo/album cover manager has it. My PDF readers have it. Almost every other photo editing and viewing suite has it. Watching streaming videos in chrome for example, has it automatically enabled. You would think that discerning enthusiasts into music, photos, and videos (i.e. high quality media) would be all into calibration of their A/V equipment and all... yet all ye albums thumbnails/artwork/and personal photos too look way over saturated if you just happen to use an expensive wide gamut monitor (mine's already six years old, I believe -- so it's not even as "wide" as some newer ones out now).

Actually, there is some form of management when using the Red October HQ video mode (which isn't even the default), with the application of an external 3DLUT etc. But this isn't exactly easy to implement, or always possible.

Attached is an example of the IrfanView software providing color management options.

*If your display device is highly configurable or HW "calibratable" like some NEC and Eizo monitors, you can create presets to artificially limit your entire system's displayable colors to basic sRGB. But this is annoying to have to do/switch several times in the course of a day just to be able to look at your images and videos with the correct colors. One should not have to do this manual switching in a properly color managed software e.g. chrome browser or IrfanView.

Would be possible for a user made OSD control?

The idea would be a xml file that could have a first input for text string to be displayed and the second input would be anything from this list:
https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Media_Center_Core_Commands

------------------------------

And second request

The ability to download subtitles on the fly during movie playback.
I know it's already possible to previewsly download subtitles for movies or tv shows when building your database with JRiver.
But it's not uncommon for subtitles to have the wrong timing or have other problems.

It would be great a possibility to try different subtitles during movie playback from different engines.
Addic7ed is fantastic for tv shows.
OpenSubtitles is great for movies.

Adding support for adding URL of video streams.

When I add a working & open IPTV stream provided by my ISP in JRiver with File > Open URL > example: "http://192.168.0.254:52424/freeboxtv/mafreebox.freebox.fr/fbxtv_pub/stream?namespace=1&service=201" (the URL of one IPTV channel that works in VLC), I get the "There is Nothing to play" message, very much like what happened with Radio streams until it was fixed.

This particular feature of accessing ISP-served IPTV from all kinds of devices at home is widely used among French users whose ISP is "Free", FYI. It'd be great to be able to nicely integrate it into JRiver.

Can this be done? I know I used to be able to do that in the past, but it does not seem to work anymore!

Good idea!

Next build:
NEW: The find and replace tool uses comboboxes for the find and replace values that list the last eight choices entered.

Is any way to see the info in expression tooltip as a list and instead as string. To achieve this is to have mulltiple fields and using listitem() but this is not helpful. A way to see in expression the tag info as list it will be a better way. Any thoughts?! Maybe as a feature implementation...

I agree with you.

Next build:
Changed: List type fields show the auto-complete tooltip as a list on separate lines instead of a big string together with semi-colons.

Thanks :)

1) I applaud the new Stop After choices. Could Stop After also include a stop after "x" number of songs. Stopping at time intervals doesn't provide a clean stopping point for playback.

I liked this one.  Next build:
NEW: Added commands to stop after a number of tracks to the stop menu (also added MCC_STOP_AFTER_TRACKS (10068)).

Make the Import Summary window go away after a few minutes.  Preferably logged somewhere.

Can I upvote this. Still use the MCC command to kick auto import and it generates a screen full of messages I don't care about. Plus it steals focus from other apps.

Edit: Never mind, forgot the ",1" in my scheduled task!

2nd - For those of us who have a number of Albums with the same "Album Name" but are by different Album Artists (i.e. Greatest Hits Albums) can we please have an option that "Restarts at 1 on a change of Album Artist" - Done

Make the USERS feature useful for restricting access!

When I install JRiver on a client with the intended use of only allowing a restricted user, DO NOT set the administrator's as the default user (which it is right now).

To circumvent any limitations imposed upon a user with restricted access right now, all you have to do is to reboot the client and it will log in as administrator (without password prompt) if the administrator is logged in at the server level (which it always is).

YouTube TV and YouTube.com/TV are very different things. One is a paid live-tv subscription service, the other is a discontinued TV-style interface to normal youtube.

For the first, paid streaming services are generally protected and not very open to applications playing them without very strict DRM requirements.

For the second, that interface was discontinued, as in, no longer exists.
Its not that you can "trick" YouTube into giving you that interface back. They litereally killed it. Apps on TVs or STBs don't use it, they implement their own without a website in the background.

The only reason I am looking to use this, is because I want to build a 512 DSD library. I know back in the 2000 the trend was to build in everything under the sun, but the world moved away from that ages ago. I don't decide what you should put in or out of your software, but please let me customize it:
- let me pick what category/subcategory to put in the start instead of that start webpage
- let me hide the categories I am not interested in. Even in Audio view I got stuff like streaming, cloud play or drivers that I want to hide.
- I understand why this is now build as a browser, but let me use it if I have to deal with it. Let me put my DSD store in, so I can search stuff in the store, buy, download, and have the file in the file browser ready to play.
- integrate real streaming services like apple play, spotify or google play (I use google play)

No idea if there's a more elegant way to this, but here's an idea. Most of the times I've my music server turned on and playing music and it's in another room. So, sometimes, a track comes up and I'm not sure which one it is. So, I open the panel page and check what it is. I believe a more convenient way would be if the there was some very basic RSS service giving info of the track played as well as what's the next track (if there is one).

Hi All, I can't say how much I love Media Center. And all the support you give. I knew the YouTube deal was on their end, but waited for a fix from JRiver and today I got an update that fixed it .. Thanks!. On to my request.

In Theater Mode, we have a view that shows just one movie after being selected from the main list. It has the cover, lots of info about the file I custom added under the name, then the description.
After that is the Director, and then Actors.
If we open a movie and see the director is "X", we can arrow or select the directors name, and Media Center sorts all my movies and shows a display of all of them with that director. That is excellent. But I want it to do it for Actors too. I want to see "Bob" is an Actor in the selected movie, and then select his name and have Media Center show me all the movies with "Bob" in them like it does for Directors. The field for Actors contains ALL the actors in a Movie, not just one, or an entry for each, so you cannot choose one. If you choose all you need to be very lucky to have anything show up. How can I see the Actors of a particular Movie being displayed (in Theater Mode) in a list that is pickable one by one, not just the whole list?
Sorry if this was asked for before, I didn't see it, but it is hard to describe. Let me know if I didn't describe it well enough.
Thanks for listening.

Don

That is it exactly, thanks. I see it looks difficult to do. Standard View has all the options one needs, but it doesn't handle a remote control well. I would just as soon give up Theater View and concentrate on Standard if I could use a remote to select what I want. An Air mouse works but is imprecise and takes talent to use. The Wife thinks Standard is too complicated, and prefers Theater. So what are you going to do? :)

Next build:
Changed: Made the sort window wider.

Get Cover Art

Allow manual entry of data for "Get from internet" lookup.
Perhaps populate an edit box with default data that user can modify?

Reason?  If you have several versions of same album you might give album slightly different names to differentiate i.e A Love Supreme [sacd]  A Love Supreme [CD]

Sometimes the lookup will fail because of this

IMHO it’s better to create a separate field (something like “version”)

EDIT: it’s more flexible and neat which is important for managing collection ... you can create calculated field later that display “A Love Supreme [CD]” if you prefer it to be displayed like that

Easy one:
Warn about collisions in F6 Rename,Move, & Copy Files.

Medium one:
Provide a merging/spliting functionality of mp3 files.
I have lots of audiobooks that have files with a short duration e.g. one minute. This results in so many small files, that both MC and the file system have problems keeping up. While there are external tools available to merge these files together, they also alter the tags and a tedious re-import with manual tagging is necessary. A merge/split dialog in MC that first merges all tracks of an album (in track number order) and then splits them after designated duration would be wonderful.

Sorry, but I'm not sure if you're saying this can already be done with existing functionality?

Yes this can be done with existing functionality. Whole beauty of MC is you can create your own tags if MC default tags do not suit your needs. You can then use expression fields to present your tags.

For example, can create [Type] field and let it check [Sample Rate] and [File Type]. If [Sample Rate] I’d DSD then it’s SACD. If [Sample Rate] is 44.1 and [File Type] is one of lossless, then it’s CD.

First decide how you want things to look. For example for same album

1. Display version of albums in Album View with type added at the end of album name (A Live Supreme [CD], A Love Supreme [SACD], etc)
2. Display Album name in Album View ... when selected display tracks grouped by type (A Love Supreme in album view ... click on it and tracks are organized under CD, SACD, etc)

Then work out how to do that with Expressions and Custom Views.

I am not expert on this and my knowledge is very limited on specifics. But if you post well defined question on forum ... more knowledgeable ppl than me will surely help out

I just know it’s possible ... you should see extends ppl go to organized their classical collections lol

One way of getting the right art into the albums you have added an identifier to is to do a lookup for the Album Art using an album with it's name unmodified and then use MC's Save Cover Art... option  and then for all the other albums instead of using the "Get from internet" option use the "Add from file.." option.

If there could be a slight change on "Link Tracks".  If I just want to put one track that is linked into a playlist, the playlist will go back and add all the linked tracks.  Even if I go back and remove the extra tracks, it will override this and put them back in.  I don't think it always worked this way.

Hi, I really like how the grouping under "Artists" and "Series" with special cover art works. I would like to see this more customizable with other custom categories, let's say e.g. "Country", where I can add a flag image to a group of movies. I've already made use of series and artists, so currently I don't see any other option to add a 3rd category with custom cover art.

Would it be possible to have Media Center query the Cover Art folder for a sub-folder matching a custom library field for artwork?

Add Library View > Empty >View as: Categories > Show Categories in this Order > Country

Now if a certain movie has a country tag e.g. Canada, Media Center would check the Cover Art sub-folders and find a folder "Country", which contains an image Canada.jpg and display it as my group/category thumbnail.

Is there any reason this is restricted to only Series and Artist?

In the same fashion, it was added for Composer in 26.0.19 :

26.0.19 (1/20/20)

1. Changed: Updated to Monkey's Audio 5.14.
2. Fixed: DVB Tuner's tuner event handler was executed repeatedly and could cause MC to crash.
3. NEW: Added the relational type of one per composer to library fields.
4. Changed: ATSC and DVB tuners will be a little more responsive to canceling/stopping.
5. Fixed: Playback Status would not advance when playing a file after loading a different library.
6. Changed: iTunes library import supports unlimited levels of iTunes playlist nesting instead of only one level.
7. Changed: Slovak translation updated (thanks Peter Lukac).
8. Fixed: The date field in some images was incorrectly set to "0" on import.
9. Changed: Customized the waveform colors for the Black on Black, Thunderstorm, Z, Aruba, Green Eyes, Purity, Pearl Bailey, Modern Cards Dark, Modern Cards White and Blue Steel skins to better match.
10. Changed: Made the waveform bar a little smoother on wide screens.
11. Fixed: Some corrupt mp4 files could lead to hanging of MC (MC went into an infinite loop).

Play from here
in the audio section. Sometimes I am in a large playlist and do not want to play the first few files, but start somewhere in the middle. It would be great to not only have the "Play" possibility (that only plays that one file) in the right click menu, but also a "Play it from here" possibility.

I liked this one, so next build:
NEW: Added the right-click play command "Play From Here" to start playback at a list location and proceed until the end.

Thanks :)

Could we get an MCWS endpoint to transfer playback from one zone to another, as seamlessly as possible? So copy playlist to other zone, continue playback at same location of current song, and stop playback on previous zone. That would be awesome.

A setting to set the amount of time before the tooltip appears.  While I love my tooltips, they do get in the way sometimes and it would be nice to be able to delay their display for a bit.

Agree completely with Moe.  I find tooltips display too soon, so it would be nice to have a configurable delay before they suddenly appear and block your view.  Others might want them to appear quickly.

But for me they appear too soon already, so I leave them disabled to avoid frustration.

Can you suggest the correct amount of time?

It would vary based on individual preference.  He's suggesting an option (like in Tree & View):  Tooltip Delay: x  Seconds
The user could set the number of seconds delay they want.

Yes, but it would be nice not to add an option if we can avoid it.

It seems to be about half a second now, but varies a little bit depending on where I am accessing it. Maybe it just displays as soon as the data is available?

I think it would be worth trying one second.

In fact, I was thinking it would be good to have a Toolbar Button to turn Tooltips on and off, as when I am working on TV Show tagging and organisation, the Tooltip just gets in the way no matter what, unless I make the effort to move the mouse cursor to the top on MC. Then I looked, and there is one: "Toggle Tooltips".

The trouble is, it doesn't work until you move to a different View and back again. Refreshing the View doesn't activate the change. If Tooltips are on and I toggle the settings using the button or the Option dialogue, Tooltips keep showing until I switch to another View and switch back to the View I was using. Same in reverse, activating Tooltips.

If that Toggle Tooltips button worked immediately, much of my frustration would be removed. Then a half second, or the current Tooltip delay, would be fine I think.

I timed it, and it IS displaying 1 second after the mouse stops moving on my systems.  And that is way too soon for me.  So Rod wants 1, Moe wants maybe 3, and I want more like 5.  I don't think it's one size fits all.

I know you don't want yet another setting in the options, but that's what I think would be best.  When I am browsing my library, the default setting is fine.  But when I am updating my library, tagging, importing new stuff, etc.  I'd like it to have a longer delay as it often gets in the way.

This would be a very convenient thing to have for MC, in my opinion:
If a file is launched from Windows Explorer, have MC play that file and suspend everything else that would get in the way.
Sometimes I want to play a file that is outside my library, say from a client machine. So I double click it in Windows Explorer. If MC isn't already launched it will do so and then connect to my library server. Then it might initiate an update that was due. FINALLY, MC is fully launched, but then it will have forgotten by then that I wanted to play a file from Windows. So then back to square one - find the file externally and double click.

Expectation: Double click a file, and MC will play it.
Reality: It could be a minute before MC is even ready to play something and even then it will not play the file that initiated the sequence.

Request: If initiated by a file in Windows, launch MC in a special mode that doesn't load a library from a library server, does not perform updates, but just plays the file. And then it can quit automatically when the file is finished or stopped.

I'm also in the around 3 second category, especially on Linux (and the Pi ARM build) since tooltips popping up too fast can prevent toolbar buttons from being pressed. Being able to customize the tooltip delay time would be very much appreciated.

I really like the "More Stop" feature that allows for "Stop after x" tracks to play (5, 10, 20...). The addition is certainly better than having only one option; "Stop after current track". However, for me the choices are to coarse and would benefit from being much more granular. Typically when I am trying to wind down a music session after dinner and before the family moves on to a movie or television show I look at the wall clock, look at the length of each of the next tunes in the queue, and decide how many more can play before I need to switch the AV receiver. In most cases it is less than 5. Could the "Stop After" be changed to stop after 2, 3, 4 and 5 tracks?

You can also turn specific Feature on and off in "Options > General > Features".

Hi,
I want to have a checkbox in the options with
„Theater view: Jump at startup to last position in movie list“
(Or a special thater view)

So, the movies don‘t always start at „a“ but there I left the list at the last shutdown. I hate to scroll through the first dozens of movies to get the later letters....

And as I rethink: this might also be an interesting checkbox for music  :o

Thanks for your attention,
Thorsten

I hate to scroll through the first dozens of movies to get the later letters....

You do know that you don't have to scroll to get to the later letters, right?

If you are in the Movies > Name View in Theatre View and press "5" on your remote, MC will jump to movies with names starting with "J". "55" will take you to "K". "9999" will take you to "Z". Or "5666" to jump to "JO", for the movie "Jobs".

MC uses the number on the Remote Control keypad like old mobile phones used to work, for writing texts. My remotes all show the letters associate with the numbers.

Of course, if you just want MC to remember where you were up to scrolling through movies, that is a different issue. But perhaps the "Movies > Recent" View will help with that, if you want to quickly get to the last movie played. Just check it in the Recent View, and then use the keypad in the Name View to jump to where you were up to.

Post by: thorsten on April 27, 2020, 04:36:00 am
Thanks for the number thing. I always wondered why letters didn‘t work....

Unfortunately, I‘m using a remote with arrows only.
I have the ‚recent movie‘ view, also ‚recently added‘. But with both views I kind of forget my old movies.
Right now, I use the ‚wall‘, but when I switch to list view, the position is also not taken over.

Finally, I must admit that my genres are not stuctured, so I can‘t use them for sorting.

I too have no numbers on my remote and I have suggested in the past a alphabet ruler in Theater view similar to what we can have in regular view.
See attachment

That way I could in Grid view arrow down and that would take my to the ruler and from there I could go left and right and stop on the correct letter and then press ok to get me there.
If I do not want to use the ruler i would simply press arrow down and go past the ruler.

I hope this will be implemented at some point.

Best regards,

You can build that, or something close to it.

Start with the blank Theatre View View, just like the Name View, add a Detail item to it, edit that item to Group by one, or as in my example, three. Grouping by three groups all the numbers, 0-9, together, which works much better for me.

Don't forget to Toggle List Style on the detail View which shows the individual movies to what you want. Also, turn off the "Display All as a choice" option, unless you prefer to see that. I guess it is a good option when you just want to scroll through the list.

Done. Close anyway.

Still not the original request, but improves the navigation if you want to jump to a section of movies quickly, without a number pad on a Remote Control.

The think about adding a sort by [Last Played], or maybe the watched() function, so that within the movie letter Group, movies are sorted by when you last watched them, in reverse order of course, so that unwatched movies or those watched long ago appear at the beginning of the list.

But then all the old cruddy movies that you have but never watch would appear at the beginning of the list. So maybe add in another level in the View called Rating and based on the [Rating] field. Then as long as you have given the movie a rating in the past, you can select you movies first by rating, then by the letter the name begins with, and then have a scrolling list to chose from, sorted by the last time the movie was played or watched (those two are slightly different, though often do give the same date, depending on how far through the movie you watched last time).

Or maybe just exclude movies you have rated zero, or zero to two.

Really, the View possibilities are endless, and not difficult to build as long as the metadata exists, (i.e. Ratings), and you know what you want.

In analyze audio, a way to manually control the volume adjustment that would be applied.

msojka, doing that would cause inaccurate values to be written to the R128 tags in the file, and then it wouldn't actually be R128 anymore.  Plus it could affect the playback by other software.

However, you already do have the ability to do this after the fact by modifying the [Volume Level (R128)] field.  (Best to start a new thread if you want more info on that.)

More than 8 threads for conversions. I have an 8 core 16 thread processor(Ryzen 3800X). JRiver maxes out at 8 threads. Can't use my full 16 threads. DBPowerAMP uses all of my 16 threads. So it's possible.

Allow for the MC26 DLNA volume control to have an adjustable number of steps.

Example:
On DLNA I connect to my YAMAHA receiver which has a 0-97 volume control in .5 steps, so it goes 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2 etc.
The MC26 volume is just 1-100 so it is out of sync with the receiver because it has only about half the steps.

Please add the ability to be able to adjust the number of steps on the DLNA volume to match whatever device it's playing through.
Thanks!

Hi
I have a large collection of vinyl and digitize it, partly as PCM 96/24 partly as DSD. It would be great if JRiver supports this process by linking to a database which helps to identify single songs from the one-side record.

Are there any programs which do this already?

Also de-crackling and de-hissing in a high-grade way would be great!
Thanks! Max

What would be AMAZING for me (as a huge classical collector) would be a way to normalize composer names - i.e. take all variations on a composer's name and map it to a standard or full name.

I'm not sure if this is easy to do or not based on whether or not there's some internet based source for it.  If not, then at least a way to create a map which can then auto-rename the value in the Composer field to the user-defined "canonical" name value.

Post by: maky100 on May 01, 2020, 02:24:41 am
As I understand you right you need a new special Tag called „canonical“ and copy or move content from composer field to it.
No idea if JRiver can do this. But mp3tag can it.
Title: Re: Feature Requests
Post by: RoderickGI on May 01, 2020, 04:28:14 pm
No idea if JRiver can do this.

Of course MC can do that. A very basic task.

Standardising composer names, however, is a human task. MC can only assist. A person needs to make the naming decisions. For example, if the [Composer] field is edited, MC will show a drop-down list of existing names, and if you type  partial name, MC will filter that list down to matching partials. Then you can select the one you want to use. Core functionality.

I have a view set up  in Panel format, with column 1 as the Composer initial, A ..Z

Then the Composer then say Album

You can then easily scan for odd instances

In my case Beethoven, I look for Ludwig van etc

That way an odd scan shows you what you need to normalize, you can even Rename in the Panel view F2 etc. I have 190 composers !!

Is it possible to lock a tab to a specific player / zone, similar to this thread from 2012:

https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=69543.0

I'd like to have one tab that, no matter how I jump between views of the music library, remains associated with (the local) Player, and a separate one for the DLNA Renderer out in the living room.

The only time I find myself purposefully clicking on "Player" in the "Playing Now" tree is when I realize that I accidentally started or stopped playback for the Kodi renderer!  (BTW, I'll gladly accept usage suggestions other than locking a tab that would prevent this behavior.)

Have you had a look at "View > Split View" in the top menu?

You can have 1, 2, or 3 View Panes open at once, or available at once and use the Disclosure Triangles to display then as required. Split Views can be locked to whatever you set them to.

Actually, looking at it now, you could set up two tabs in a second Pane, set one to show each of Player and your DLNA Renderer, then lock the View and they should stay that way. The only issue would be if the DLNA Renderer wasn't available, its tab may change. Test it!

I must be doing something wrong.  ?

Trying your suggestion, I have a 2-way split view, in columns.  I start in the left-hand column, select the Renderer in Playing now, and then click one of the library views.  I then say to Lock View 1 (I think the left would be View 1).  Going to the right-hand column, select Player and then select a library view.  Get an album playing locally via a selection in that right-hand column.  Then I go back to the left-hand column, and select an album to play there -- that changes what Local is playing.  It seems like both Views are still just responding to the most recently-selected Playing Now zone.

The issue occurs, I think, because that Playing Now selection also effectively changes when I get something going on the Renderer via JRemote.  Later on, I'll then come back into the study, un-minimize JRiver, and select something to play in the study.  That action changes what the Renderer is playing.

This usage model has always confused me, so I think I must be missing something!

Title: Re: Feature Requests
Post by: RoderickGI on May 02, 2020, 10:27:08 pm
Ah, my mistake. What I described just allows you to see what is playing in the two Zones, not to control them. You still need to control them in Split View 1.

You are correct, there is no way to lock a tab or Split View to a particular Zone, and have anything selected to play in that tab/View always and only play to that Zone.

I use View 1 to choose the Zone to play to, and what to play, and the use View 2 to see what is in Playing Now for each Zone, and manage that Zone. By manage I mean skip tracks, change volume, and so on, not select new content to play, which you can't because the View is locked. Selecting new content happens in View 1 even if View 2 was active when you do the selection. What I do is useful when playing different content to different Zones.

Also, as I mentioned above, when a Dynamic Zone such as your DLNA Renderer disappears, the tab in View 2 will switch to the MC Start page, even if the View is locked.

Hi,

Is there any possibility of making lyrics save and attach to files/metadata as the import scan happens, rather than at the end of the import?

What is happening for me is that I have lots of files, and the scan/import can take days with lyrics lookup enabled.
There are occasions where I may need to restart PC, which means I need to stop the importing and I lose my progress and have to start the lyrics scan again from scratch.

I'm aware a large database of files will take a long time to scan, but it is okay if I am able to stop/start the process as needed.

Thanks

An idea to extend a bit the expression flow, is the ability to add in Html tags, the way we can move the text inside, via "center, left or right". We have one of these ability to handle the text in thumbnail view and that's it. So if you edit your expression inside and push enter your text is aligned to the only way, which is the left side. If you want an additional workaround, you have to play with empty space to the desire solution, which sometimes is not working as properly because you have many variables, like the type of font, size, and so on. And doing this method I experience a back and forth testing to a desire location of text inside the expression. Why I come with this addition, because I see many people doing variation of views, and I think we hit the same problem. Maybe for some others the looks are not important but are a part of this visualization, which is helping you in how to see the data. This way you cand expand more of the functionality of Html tags inside of an expression.
Here is an example of how I'm trying to solve this dilemma:
This is how in Notepad++ is looking
(https://i.gyazo.com/24259abfc11723d38360e92e05f47dea.png)
And how it looks in JRiver
(https://i.gyazo.com/0dae0fe044d2d2c7ca4c6267ae71e5af.png)
As you can see is quite hard to achieve one goal if the expression doesn't help you in that direction.
Any thoughts?!

Yeah. I think you could easily line things up by switching to a monospaced font. And the padding could be done automatically by measuring the length of your strings.

So, would the above be a reasonable feature request?

I don't know. But it has been seen by JRiver staff no doubt, so something might happen.

I suspect it might be a little difficult and/or confusing, given the way MC manages Zone selection. Maybe the Zoneswitch rules could be extended to include which Split View was being used, and switch to the Zone that the Split View "owns". That would be easier than tying a Zone to a specific tab, I think. But I'm guessing a bit here.

First thanks for adding the "Stop After X" tracks. Awesome feature!!!

However, I am having a bit of a problem with sorting in SmartLists. My goal is to sort my SmartList by [Date Played] (descending) with the goal to select songs that haven't played in a while. What I found recently is that I have a bunch of songs where the [Date Played] field says "never played". I had thought using [Date Played] (descending) that the "never played" songs would appear at the very top of the list before any songs that actually were played and have a date stamp on them. This is not the case. "Never played" songs appear at the bottom of the sort no matter if one sorts [Date Played] in ascending or descending sequence. See attached graphics. Would it be possible to modify the sort routine to make sure "never played" songs appear first in an ascending sort and last in a descending sort?

More than 8 threads for conversions. I have an 8 core 16 thread processor(Ryzen 3800X). JRiver maxes out at 8 threads. Can't use my full 16 threads. DBPowerAMP uses all of my 16 threads. So it's possible.

Good idea.

Next build:
Changed: Now allow up to 16 concurrent conversions (was capped at 8 previously).

It would be nice to have some visual indication of when clip protection engages when watching a video.

Just a little text that says "Clip Protection: -1.5dB" would be great.

There's currently no way to know clip protection has intervened when watching a video full screen or in theater view.

2 feature requests.

1) Allow the DSP Studio's Analyzer display to have it's own window so it's display is NOT mutually exclusive with other DSP studio options.  It would allow real time feedback of DSP setting changes.  I use the Analyzer window to test signal shapes without the amps being turned on.  Having simultaneous access to both the setting window and results window would be helpful.

2) Allow text file imports of REW PEQs into a Parametric Equalizer Bank as well as the ability to clear the PEQ bank in addition to deleting 1 (or more) entry at a time.

Thanks much.

1) Please (allow me to?) alphabetize the folders list in the Automatic Import Media selection box.  I've added folders to exclude over the years as my media/document storage needs and organization has changed, so I've got folders on drive K: listed in 5 places scattered randomly across dozens of folders in this list.  It causes me to have to review the entire list every time I want to make a change.

2) If that's not too much trouble, please allow sorting of columns in the Rename, Move, & Copy Files dialog also.  (FYI, I think the comma after Move is grammatically incorrect) :)

3) I'd LOVE to see the detached window automatically resize to match the aspect ratio of the playing video, to eliminate black space where possible; realizing letterboxing may still leave black bars.  I resize this window all the time and have to grab the corner and fiddle with it to get it to match video aspect ration on every video I play.

Thanks for your consideration

Over the years I have used a multitude of CD Ripping Software and have noticed that most of them, probably even all of them, suffer from the same problem especially when it comes to Multi-CD Albums. There is one piece of info/data embedded in just about every Commercially Produced Music CD that every variant/make of CD Ripping Software I've ever used uses when it searches through an On-line Database to acquire the Albums Info/Tags and then "inconveniently" does nothing else with it. I am of course referring to the "Disc#", so Matt/Jim since you have changed MC so that we can make use of the "Disc#" tag how about making MC's CD Ripping Software (Probably) Unique by having it write the Disc# at the same time that it's writing all the other tags to the file?

In the latest verssion:
Changed: It will show a message when adding or removing from a locked playlist in the Tag window and not make any changes.

I understand why this was done, but, at the same time it takes away an inconvenience with updating/replacing tracks in a playlist.

Would like to be able to right-click the playlist in the Tag window and have a lock/unlock selection added to the menu there.  Otherwise it's a lot of steps.

I have a few playlists and smarlists.  Some of my smartlists have lots of criteria.  It would be handy if I could duplicate an existing playlist to be able to make slight modifications creating a new one.  I see no easy way to do this currently.  There is no copy/paste option for any playlist or smartlist.

Yes -- there are work-arounds (export then edit the exported file).  This is too much work for a basic operation.

EDIT:  you may move and copy via drag and drop I am seeing.  This was not so obvious at first, but this works.  You may delete this request.

Hi,

When choosing the file management strategy for podcast episodes, I think there should be an additionnal option in the "Keep" section of the "Podcast Feed Properties" that would amount to this: download and keep all unread episodes local files and delete all the local files from episodes that have been read.

Thanks for your consideration!

Both of these should be a quick request.

The first requires another API call to last.fm server:  I currently have to love/un-love content using the last.fm website.  I am requesting to provide the ability to do both from within MC26 itself.  A toobar button, keyboard shortcut and/or menu item to do this would be ideal.  It may be a toggle (love/un-love toggle).

Also, a context menu addition for playlists containing cut, copy and paste would be a quick enhancement too.  Drag and drop does it, and the main Edit menu (cut, copy, paste) also works.  It should be a quick change to also add these three items to the context menu specific to playlist.

Speaking of Last FM.  I wish MC26 wouldn't send the playing "scrobble" info until the end of the file played to match what it does in MC26.

Sometimes when doing housekeeping on a file, I'll get an incorrect play to Last FM by just playing the first 10 - 30 seconds.

Display the Internal Volume of JRiver on screen and over the top of any other application if need be.
I think this would go a long way to making the WDM Driver and WASAPI Loopback even more useful.

An option to configure DSP Studio on a per device basis
what's a device in this context?
Title: Re: Feature Requests

what's a device in this context?

Good question. MC's audio chain is a little complex and things get a bit messy along the way. In my use case it would be whatever Windows considers the current Default Device.

In my specific context is that I have a pair of Logitech speakers, and a Logitech headset. For some reason I'm sure the true audiophiles could explain, if I'm watching a movie with multi-channel hd audio track using my headset, everything sounds great, but when I switch Windows to use my speakers, I lose the center channel completely and there's no dialog. If I then go into DSP Studio and enable Output Format, and set Channels to 2.1, then things sound normal again through my speakers. Unfortunately, I don't like the result of that through my headset, so I have to turn it off again when I switch back.

Thinking beyond that, I'm sure there are numerous times when it would be nice to have MC automatically enable different DSP settings depending on the output device.
While I'm thinking of it, it'd also be great if it could autoswitch based on user criteria, using the same search syntax in use elsewhere. Like use preset X if I'm watching a Movie, but use Y if I'm listening to Music.
Title: Re: Feature Requests
Post by: mattkhan on June 02, 2020, 05:57:34 pm
This is a basically zoneswitch though I don't know whether the information you want is exposed via some sane API or not, certainly it wouldn't be os agnostic.

I would guess the requirement would be easier to meet with some sort of quick preset DSP configs though that would be tedious to manage without another previously requested feature (some way to store a delta to add to/ remove from a DSP config target than store n complete copies) which helps makes the DSP load/save/preset option v hard to use in practice

This. I have fallen into the "Oh, what did I just undo?" trap, then spent some times fixing what I just broke.

Doof: https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Zones

Why would you change Windows to use your speakers? Just set up one Zone in MC for your Speakers, and one Zone for your Headphones, and the set up the required DSP for each. Ctrl-T quickly switches Zones.
You can even set up multiple Zones for one Windows Audio Device, and apply different DSP settings to each, if you need to.
Use ZoneSwitch to automatically switch Zone for Movies and Music.

MC doesn't care what the Default Audio Device is in Windows. It plays to the device specified in the selected Zone, and applies the DSP specified for that Zone.
Never set MC to play to the Windows Default Audio Device. It limits your control and options enormously.
Set the Windows Default Audio Device to the WDM Driver and you can play other audio sources through MC.

Unless I am missing something in your requirements?

I think zoneswitch as a quick DSP selector (for the same content) is a generally annoying user experience as it gives you the 2 dsp settings to manage as well as the need to manage what is played in each zone. Using DSP presets has the same multiple dsp config problem, loses the fast access via a keyboard shortcut but removes the need to manage what is played in a zone.

Two things.

1) It would be nice if this thread was pinned to the top to find easier.   ;)

2) Maybe it's already there, but either using the Move/Copy or the Find/Replace, the ability to send previous information in selected fields (ie People/Popularity/date, etc.) to other files of the same name and artist.  When I get a new album/cd it would save me a lot of entry time from going through all my duplicated tracks.

You can copy tags from one file and paste them in another by using ctrl-shift-v.  It will ask which tags.

Title: Re: Feature Requests
Post by: Doof on June 12, 2020, 12:47:14 pm
I'm not sure if this is doable, but I would love some way to give the Fill Properties From Filename a series of patterns to try, matching against the one that fits "the best".

For example, my audio collection is organized in the following way:

Single disc album: [Album Artist (auto)]\[Album]\[Track #]. [Artist] - [Name]
Multi-disc album: [Album Artist (auto)]\[Album]\Disc [Disc #]\[Track #]. [Artist] - [Name]
Multi-disc album where each disc has a unique "sub album" name: [Album Artist (auto)]\[Album]\Disc [Disc #] - [Sub Album]\[Track #]. [Artist] - [Name]

etc. It gets more complicated with Concerts and Audiobooks, but you get the idea.

So it would be hugely helpful to be able to something expression-like, like:

Code: [Select]
FirstMatch(
  [Artist]\[Album]\Disc [Disc #] - [Sub Album],
  [Artist]\[Album]\Disc [Disc #],
  [Artist]\[Album]
)

and have MC do something regex-y to figure out which of these matches best. Then you could do the same for filenames. My workflow now is to filter the view three separate times and run the Fill Properties tool on each. I'd love to be able to do this all in one go.

Closing open tabs. Would be great to close open taps just by hoover with the mouse over the tab and get then the "close X".
So no click on the tab is necessary to close it.

A right click on a tab should give you the opportunity "close all other tabs".

I have a bunch of albums in PCM and DSD.  I have to manually change the output encoding to DSD/DOP to play my DSD albums correctly (thanks for the DSD to PCM conversion improvement, but it is still not the same as true DSD).  Can JRiver select an output encoding automatically based on the album? Maybe by remembering the selection that was used the last time the album was played?

1. Some sort of indicator as to whether I'm in Alternate Play Mode or not.

2. Even better, a choice of more than 2 modes.
Eg. I now use a crossfade for general playlist use and Alt Mode is gapped to play an album in the normal way. But neither of these are appropriate for a live album. For that I'd need gapless I guess, but if I change this in the settings I have to change it back again. If there were a way to quickly change between play moes and know which one you're on it would be useful. I can imagine there are many uses for having a variety of custom crossfades or other modes to hand.

2. Even better, a choice of more than 2 modes.

Use Zones (https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Zones) and ZoneSwitch.

All the settings you need are Zone specific. The Zone you are playing to can be the indicator of what transition type you have selected. ZoneSwitch can automate the selection of Zones based on appropriate field values.
