A feature I believe is missing (sorry if its a bit long winded)
I am fully aware of the debate around "On Demand Streaming" like Tidal etc and of JimH's concerns re the financial viability of these providers but Amazon HD entering the arena puts a different spin on things. Amazon is far from broke and is unlikely to follow the viability path that concerns Jim around the likes of Tidal, so Hi Fi streaming looks like its here to stay
I would imagine the other 2 biggies Apple and Google will sit up and change there minds on MP3/AAC and lo fi offerings and step up to compete with Amazon on the Lossless and even HD front (albeit Amazon see HD as CD quality). Bandwidth i so cheap these days.
Currently the only way to get Tidal (and Qobuz, Idagio , Primephonic etc) into a Hi Fi system is the Cast from a mobile device or bluetooth it neither of which counts as Hi Fi to me. The inability of an ethernet source to a reliable streamer (Cambridge Audio CXN in my case) means that streaming services will always be lo fi unless you get into bed with the opposition (ie Roon, Audirvana etc)
That said I don't want to do because neither offer any customization of the views I am used to with MC, the primary reason I maintain 2 libraries. Their interfaces are "What you Get" with little customization other than sortnig options.
I know there have been great strides to streaming in MC but not in the On Demand mode its more a "Radio Station" approach. On my CXN App I have access to the whole of Tidal & Spotify along with my DLNA server and Internat Radio but the app is extremely weak compared with JRemote so I am reluctant to follow that route.
I am not sure how difficult the coding would be but others have done it. I think its hard to deny that Streaming a la Tidal, Amazon, Google, Apple etc is the future. Why buy when you can rent approach is prevailing in the younger audience albeit somewhat lo fi on Cell Phones and the like. Maybe oldies with a collection are different.
We are being robbed of Hi Fi offerings by not having even rudimentary integration of streaming service.
I openly admit I am using Roon to provide me with this service but I have update (Loyally since V17 I may add) to version 26 and actively split my use between the 2 apps depending on my needs. I would dearly love to maintain ONE library and multiple streaming services but currently I can't as I miss out on these streaming service.
There is active discussion on Amazon integration with Roon at present , not sure what will come of it.
I am not trying to be contentious or threatening , I will continue to upgrade annually regardless but as a regular user I think you are missing an opportunity here.
