Title: DTS hiss at track lead-in, then sound.
Post by: avpman on February 04, 2006, 12:34:01 pm
Playing DTS ripped from DTSCD's now works when using ASIO output mode! However, I get about .25 seconds of hiss sent to the external decoder before my M-Audio card automatically switches to non-audio/data mode. (Apparently DTS is considered non-audio/data). If I force the card to remain in "non audio/data" mode there is no hiss at beginning of DTS tracks. However, then there's no output when I play non-DTS tracks. I don't have this problem with another application "PowerDVD'.

I have not installed any additional decoders/filters because I have an outboard DTS decoder/processor. (Lexicon MC-1).

We're soooooooo close to having this work properly!

Have you tried changing the settings for track switching?  Cross fade, etc.

Crossfades are disabled (standard-gapped). Seek is standard. Changing the gap time has no effect. I'm open to other suggestions.

are you using an ASIO to kernal streaming utility?

Nothing else. Straight out of MC to the SPDIF port to my Digital Processor.

Did you try the support for the sound card?  Or updating the sound card driver?

Yes, I also logged a support request with them and I do have the latest driver. I'm waiting to hear back. It's a pro-quality M-Audio 192 card.

In the mean time, I am interested to see if anyone else has the same symptoms:
1) approx .25 sec of hiss at the lead-in of DTS tracks (ripped from CD).
2) silence if their soundcard is set to "data only" when playing non-DTS tracks when MC is using ASIO. DTS tracks play fine, NO hiss at lead-in when sound card is set to data only.

I don't know much of anything about the ASIO standard. I guess I was wondering of there is somehting that MC is not sending along with the data to tell the card what kind of data to expect; DTS or non-DTS. And that's why there is silence when playing non-DTS tracks. Everything I've read in previous posts on the subject says that you have to use ASIO mode in MC and set your card to Data Only. But like I said, when I do that, regular non-DTS tracks just play silence. The DTS tracks play fine, no hiss at lead-in with this setting.

I appreciate all the work you guys put into this. It would be great to get it figured out.
