Since a few release I've noticed a change in the behavior of the Play and Add to Playing now commands.
If you select a series of files and then right click "Play" playing does not start from the first file but from the file under the cursor.
The same happens if the Playing now list is empty and the "Add to Playing now command is rightclicked.
Is this by design or a bug?
If it's by design I'm rather perplex on a behavior which is different from the general behavior of other commands such as Send to etc.
In addition this behavior is absurd if "Continuous off" is selected (the files before the cursor will not be played).
Thanks for an answer.
Keep continuing your great work

I agree with Luigi1943. I'm used to the classic behavior of the right-click menus. I normally highlight an album I want to hear and right click --> Play. Now I have to make sure I right click the first item in the list, otherwise it starts playing at whatever random item I had clicked on. Why was this modification made? If it was requested by someone, would it be possible to have an option box somewhere to revert back to the default behavior for those of us that are used to it?
Thanks!

Noone supports Soul_Rvr911 request??

count me as three
If I send or drag an album to Playing Now I want it to play in order, otherwise I'd turn on Shuffle.

I had thought so, until I was told otherwise.

one mans bug is another mans feature.........

I've flip-flopped.
I thought it seemed like a good idea, but I'm not sure I like it in practice.
As long as we're dreaming, I wish the root right-click menu had:
Play
Play (shuffled)
Instead of:
Play
Add to Playing Now

Why bargain in dreams??? I wish the root right-click menu had:

Add to Playing Now

I was thinking it would be nice if a click on play did play,
but a click and hold on play would open the full play menu?
I don't like digging down as far as you need to at the moment to find it.

I use 'Add To Playing Now' most of the time, and would sorely miss it if it were to be removed

Same here. I'm always building my Playing Now song or album at a time and don't want what I have there already to get overwritten like the Play does.
-
Why not just drag to playing now?
-
Why not just drag to playing now?
because playing now could be out of sight?
because it is impossible to do, using keyboard only.
i would miss add to playing now also. use it a lot.
-
I also use "Add to playing now" a lot and would miss it. Personally, I would never use "Play (shuffled)", as I always add entire albums to my playlist and I want them to play in proper track order (which is why the new right-click menu behavior irks me). I can see how some would benefit from this new menu item, but isn't it already available from the "send to"-->"play" menu?
-
For this one menu only. Play and Add to Playing Now will not honor position. Creating a stack will honor the position.

Maybe my suggestion was not clear: I was not suggesting to remove "Add to playing now", that I use a lot, but only to add the "Play (shuffle)" that could be liked by some users. It can be done in any order: for instance
Play
Add to playing now
Play (shuffle).
Anyway my primary concern is about the selected files to be played starting from the first one: if you select a few files the cursor is on the last one, why oblige a user to go back to the first one in order to have all the files played in the sort order???

Why must I use Stacks just to add an album and have it play in order? ?

You don't.

I'm afraid I don't get the meaning. Do you mean that the behavior will be rechanged to be the same as before? Could you please explain what you mean?

Yeah.

Yeah.
Many thanks for the ultra-quick fix in the build 493
-
Thank you for reverting the "Play" and "Add to Playing Now" right-click menu options back to their original behavior in release 493! It is greatly appreciated!! ;D

The issue was that something like stacks has a need to know which item was clicked so it can set that as the top file. In other words position is important. So we added position information to the list on right click. Previously it did not retain this information. The consumer (say add to playing now) isn't in a position to decide if it wants to use the position information or not because it doesn't know where the call came from.
Right now this information should only be passed on to stacks from that one right click menu.
