have cleaned up my vista Acer hard drive and turned off ALL firewalls.

It so chronically unstable on my Acer i can't even change any of the media player settings.

The hang says it's stuck in AudioClientRpc, which I think is communication with your sound card driver.  Maybe try updating the sound card driver or switch the audio output method in Media Center > Options > Audio between Direct Sound, WaveOut, etc. until one works.

Using logging might also provide clues:

Thanks.
Title: MC 15.0.80.0 not responding - hangs when ripping CD
Post by: TS1972 on August 14, 2010, 12:34:18 pm
Hi all

What I am trying to do is RIP a 16bit CD on to my Vista laptop, all the firewalls are off as are all other apps.

Does the MC15 app freeze/hang because I have set it up to produce a bit perfect copy of my audio CD's?

Do I need any other third party software to make MC15 work properly?

Final point, at what point do you ask for a refund because this product does not meet the spec?

here is the message i get;

I merged your two posts.

If it only hangs when starting a rip, could you email a log showing the hang to matt at jriver dot com?

Thanks.

A virus checker or other security software might cause a problem like this.

I'm pasting this in from an email to keep this all together.  I'll reply below:

Hi Matt

thanks for working on a Saturday and supporting me with my small issue.

The latest is;

Checked and my old Realtek sound card has the latest software.

I tried the different sound output sessions but this now creates an error
message when i press the Rip cd button of

"The output directory could not be created for one or more files
Please double check the output directory in the rip options"

What is the file path to finding these options?

when trying to find the log from the instructins on wiki page i could only find
a long list  of JMD files and found

3 small files called sort character table .dat. No records in the cache file

Best wishes

If it reports a problem creating the output folder, try a folder you know you have read/write permissions to.

You can set the ripping folder in Options > File Location > Audio.  You might try something simple like C:\Music.

As for logging, you need to first enable logging in Help > Logging.  Then you can use the 'View Log' buttons on the same Logging dialog once you have a log of a problem.

Thanks.

Hi Jim and Matt

thanks again for your patience and support.
I went into my control panel, windows firewall, then added 'MC15' as an exception' ie allow access.
I also changed a few of the rip settings.

I'm pleased to tell you that the software has now succesfully ripped at least 3 whole CD and only stopped once, i pressed the 'allow a program throught' button again and the rip continued on...

My only 24bit CD is now ripping but MC15 thinks its a 16bit. Or is it the way i have set it up?

Media Center only rips standard audio CDs, which are always 16-bit, 44.1 KHz, stereo.

If you have a 24-bit disc from someone like Hrx, it is probably a data disc with WAV or lossless audio files on it.  You would just copy files from the disc to your harddrive and then import into Media Center.

Hi Matt

Thanks for the advice on how to download HD 24 bit tracks, will give it a try now i have my new DAC-2

The only error i had this evening while ripping a CD's this evening was a 'CD Look up' error and on saying ' No tag information'.   Once i typed in the Album data manually it ripped the CD as normal.
The setting in the app are set to import all this and store it in the same place, so lost as what else i can do?
