MC supports these formats in the latest build. But, where would one encounter these formats? Can MC now directly decode a SACD in my optical drive?
-
We think these files will be more widely available in the future. Try the links at the bottom of this page:
http://www.playbackdesigns.com/superhires-answers.html
The change we made does not affect what your optical drive can read. As far as I know, the only common drive that can read SACD's is on older Sony PS3's.
-
You can download some sample DSD files here: http://www.2l.no/hires/index.html.
-
how can these .dff files be played? I try to import the tracks but MC 16.141 will not import or play them. Foobar plays them fine.
thanks!
-
Under file types in MC's options, are the types checked?
When you import, you may need to check the filetypes.
-
Hi, yes they are checked and associated.
thanks
-
What happens if you drag one into the MC window from Explorer?
-
it says "Warning - there is nothing to play". If I close MC and double click a .dff file MC will open but the song doesn't show as playing or play.
thanks
-
There are several formats. Where did you get the files?
-
2l.no - weird - I rebooted and now they play within MC but not on the PS Audio PWD - it just says waiting.....
-
How is DSP set in MC?
-
First, make sure other audio plays like from an MP3, WAV, etc.
Then try setting the Sample Rate in DSP Studio > Output Format to 44.1 or 48 and test DSD. Does that work?
-
It plays fine with the DSP set to default in MC - ie: no resampling or bit depth change or to 24/192 etc. What I'd is to be able to play it via the DNLA server on my PS Audio PWD with does 32/192
thanks
-
This is great. Thanks for adding DSD playback.
Do you convert to PCM, or is the DSD stream left unaltered and bit-perfect?
Also, will you support DSD128 in addition to DSD64?
Thanks again. Happy user for many years - now even happier.
Chris

Do you convert to PCM
Yes. DSD is converted to high sample rate PCM. An 8:1 sample rate conversion is performed, and the bit-depth is increased from 1-bit to 64-bit.
So the total size is 8 times as large when it's PCM, meaning the transform is effectively lossless.

I have dff files cannot play in MC 16.0.149.
Cannot import the folder or files. Double clicking on file, nothing happens. Shortened file names in case that was problem.
Yes, dff is checked in audio formats. In fact in Windows the dff files are showing the MC icon.
Any suggestions?

Welcome to Interact.
If you drag a file into Playing Now in Media Center, does it show in the list?
If not, I may need a sample file.
If yes, try using DSP Studio > Output Format to specify a sample rate (start with 44.1). Does that help?
Thanks.

When I drag into now playing, there is a blue "plus icon and copy" appearing but then nothing happens after I drop it. It does not appear in the player. How can I send you a file?
-
Also cannot play SACDs converted to ISO...

Me neither.

How can I send you a file?
I'm matt at jriver dot com. I think email will work for a file of about 30 MB or less.
Thanks.

I have the same issue. Was this solved and if so, how?
-
Media Center doesn't support compressed DFF and DSF.
If that's what you're trying to drop, you're going to have to convert them to uncompressed.
If you think they already are uncompressed, please send me a sample file. My email is above.
Thanks.

Hi @all,
is there a feature included in MC 18 to tag dsf and dff files?
The sound quality of these files played natively is great but the
files are spread in "various artists" and "unknown artist".
