hello Matt
how do I reinstall the license ?
do I need to uninstall MC ?
or is there another way ? ( I can't find in the wiki or the forum )
also ,I have a license for MC 17
and purchased license for MC 18 not long ago but not used it ( as soon as it was out )
do you think it's related to that ?
thanks

Download MC again from our site.
1. Your Registration Codes (permanent licenses) can be retrieved by using option #2 on the Restore Page. You will receive e-mail from buy-button@jriver.com .
2. Download and install JRiver Media Center from jriver.com. Other sites can not always be trusted.
Your license must match your version. The latest version is here:
http://www.jriver.com/download.html
Older versions are here:
http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Old_Versions
3. Use the Registration Code to do a Restore here:
https://rover.jriver.com/cgi-bin/restore.cgi
Use Copy and Paste to avoid mistakes. Browsers can sometimes cause problems. Opera renames the .mjr extension of our Install Key to .exe and this will not work. IE is reliable.
More information can be found here:

thank you JimH
but I didn't get if I have to uninstall MC completely
before reinstalling
If I do a repair install ( installing over existing instance ) I do not have the option to enter a license
Is there a way to uninstall the license only through registry
I would really prefare not losing all my settings especially on theatre view
thank you

I can check if it's a license problem if you tell me what email address you used to purchase v18 (even part of it should be enough for me to look it up). I only saw a v9 and v10 license under your forum email address.
Doing a repair install over the top after downloading directly from JRiver is probably also worth a try.
Thanks.

hello Matt
I've already installed ver 17.0.185 by downloading from site
without change in MC behaviour.
I've changed the email in the forum to the one I used to purchase ver 17 and 18.
waiting for further instructions

It's not a license problem like I thought it might be (thanks for being a long time customer!).
For the crash, the log you provided shows it's getting information for this file:
0022390: 2280: Import: GetVideoMetadata: Getting movie & TV info: F:\My TV\Greys Anatomy\Season 7\Greys.Anatomy.S07E01.HDTV.HebSub.XviD-www.DownCenter.me.avi
Then it does the internet lookup.
Then it crashes when it's writing values to the library:
0027296: 2280: Database: CDataHolder::Load: Field: Stack Top; Files: 35707; Pointer bytes: 25040; Data bytes: 4168; Elapsed ms: 2.160
0027296: 2280: Database: CDataHolder::Load: Field: Screenwriter; Files: 35707; Pointer bytes: 8576; Data bytes: 8288; Elapsed ms: 1.848
0027296: 2280: General: TopLevelExceptionFilter: Unhandled exception -- program crashing
0027296: 2280: General: TopLevelExceptionFilter: Message: 0, wParam: 0, lParam: 0, Window class:
I've never seen this. But I can think of a few things to try:
1) Make a fresh library backup first. Then restore a library backup from a few days ago (the program makes them automatically). Does that fix it? If so, please share the backup with me so I can see if there's some library corruption that causes a reproducible crash.
2) Rename the file listed above to .tmp (from .avi). Maybe there's something special about that file or internet data.
3) Turn off auto-import (this isn't a good long term solution, but it will stop it from crashing).

Hello again
I've followed Matt's instructions
and the problem is the autoimport mechanism
I've tried to find out if the problem is specific file
and I'm convinces it isn't.
I've eliminated my auto import locations one by one
tried every one of them separately
and the only time MC didn't crash was when I removed them all.
how do I proceed from here
-
It's crashing looking up metadata (one of the options of auto-import), not searching file paths.
So to test, you'd need to remove that file from the library, not disk.
Also, did you try restoring the library backup?
-
Hi Matt
I was wrong it was a corrupt Library
I restored a library from before the crashes began
and shazam everything works.
thanks for the help
if you still want a copy of the library let me know

if you still want a copy of the library let me know
Please do.
You can email it to matt at jriver dot com.
I'll delete it after I'm done testing.
Thanks.
