I've had a strange problem creep up lately where when I place new M4A files into one of my import directories, MC imports them but shortly thereafter deletes them. This actually caused me to completely lose some purchased tracks.
I turned on logging, copied a few M4A files over and waited. MC did delete them again. In looking through the log files, it appears it thinks they are episodes in some podcast and it's time to purge them.
I have attached the log for review. It's very easy to see these events... just search for "M4A". You'll see the import and the following purge.
Thanks.

Sorry about the tracks.
Are the files from a Podcast? We collect Podcast episodes looking for files with a non-blank 'Feed URL'.
What's in the Feed URL of the files? Does it match one of the Podcast feeds in Media Center?

While these files are not from a podcast, this group does seem to have a "PODCASTURL" meta in them, although it is not a url. It is simply a number, "005698".
So, I would assume if I removed this tag from the files, MC would not target them from purging. While this could be a workaround, it still concerns me that MC would be purging files from anything with something defined in that meta tag, when it is not "in charge" of managing that podcast's episodes.
For instance... what would happen if I copied some episodes of a podcast from another source into my library? Would MC just purge those?

It's a bug and we'll fix it. I just need some help figuring it out.

I've kept this thread in a Firefox tab as a reminder to update something on the wiki. Did this get resolved?
It appears that MC is using the query:
-[Feed URL]=[]
to find purge candidates. Perhaps this should be:
-[Feed URL]=[] [Media Sub Type]=[Podcast]
Anyway, my bump here means I can now close the tab.
