I am a new user of Media Center 18. I previously used the Media Jukebox and I upgraded to take advantage of more features. I am having a problem with the volume. I have the volume set to "system volume" but the volume comes out of my speakers at a very loud and fixed level. Neither the slider in the Media Center nor the main volume control on my PC have any effect. The old Media Jukebox worded fine. Am I missing a setting or something else.
Thanks

Does using the "internal volume" mode work? When you say that "main volume control" on your PC doesn't work, do you mean the volume control in the windows mixer/control panel?

I get the same result using "internal volume." Yes, the "main volume" control I am referring to is the volume control in the windows mixer/control panel.
Thanks

That's really odd. If your Windows mixer isn't affecting changes to your system's volume as a whole then I'd thinking something went bonkers under the hood.

As noted above, that is extremely odd. I had a similar issue with system volume, but internal volume has always worked for me. When you change the setting from system volume to internal volume, you say the volume slider doesn't work; does the mute button in JRiver work?
Did you make sure to fully stop playback after changing the volume mode, and restart playback? Those kinds of changes don't take effect until playback is stopped.
I'm not sure what's going on there otherwise ?

Yes, I tried all these things. My other audio programs (Winamp, foobar and JRiver jukebox) work fine. Perhaps a reinstall would help

This problem happens with ASIO WASAPI and Kernel streaming. It does not happen with Direct Sound. If I can't use one of the better output methods it kind of defeats the purpose of upgrading. Any suggestions?
Thanks

I thought the whole point of ASIO, WASAPI, and Kernel Streaming was that they bypassed the windows audio mixer, therefore changing the system volume control shouldn't affect them. (because they're supposed to bypass it)
If you are wanting to control the volume from your PC, you will have to use Media Center's internal volume controls.

Thanks, but as I stated earlier, the Media Center's volume control is not working

Are you sure you were using "Internal Volume" and not "Application Volume"?
Application Volume adjusts the volume control for Media Center in the Windows Mixer, and System Volume adjusts the global volume control for the Windows Mixer.
When outputting ASIO/WASAPI/Kernel Streaming, only the Internal Volume control does anything. (because those outputs bypass the mixer)

For completeness and as a general reminder, it's always worthwhile to check the obvious info sources:
