Title: Format conversion
Post by: pandaman on January 08, 2015, 09:20:18 pm
When I attempt to convert from DSD to PCM (FLAC) the conversion instantly produces a zero length output file.  Why does this not work?  I have followed the simple instructions in the help file.

Use DSP Studio to pick a reasonable sample rate, and of course make sure DSP is enabled.  Does that make it work?

BTW the SACD default "sample rate" is 2'822'400 Hz (= bit rate in bits per second) which is what is shown in MC's display columns; but MC internally converts that to a 352'800 Hz sample rate (= same bit rate but in bytes per second); and if you convert such a SACD file to say WAV at 24 bit depth, you end up with a file with a 352'800 Hz sample rate and 24 bit depth = 8'467'200 bits per second; so a SACD to WAV conversion at default settings produces 3 times as many bits per second as the original; surely its magic ...

DSD and PCM are quite different concepts, and conversion between them is quite lossy, and to minimize said loss, the PCM result of a proper conversion is in fact quite a lot bigger.

Setting sample rate is what was needed, although the documentation states that 382.5K is the default.  Thank you!
