Mini Review of Kinivo HDMI Switch
« on: August 16, 2014, 08:34:42 am »

I've bought, but haven't tested, the Kinivo 5011BN HDMI Switch which I've read about.

I just connected it and don't know if it will solve all my HDMI problems, but it does solve one at least.

The device can detect inputs that have been turned on and off, and respond correctly.  If you have two inputs, for example, the device will decide which one to output.

In my case, I've been switching a receiver between PC and Id inputs by using a remote.  Now it's automatic.  This is important for WAF reasons.

My next problem is that the TV has a timeout that turns off the screen (but doesn't turn off the TV) confuses the Id and the music is stopped.  I'm testing that now.

Hey thats a timely find Jim. Was looking for one of those, and this one looks great for a reasonable price.

Let me know about if you work out the last hic you mention.

It looks like they also make it as:

Three ports in, one out for $29.99.

and

Four ports in, one out for $39.99.

They make a different device that splits an HDMI signal and outputs it on two ports:

One port in, two out for $19.99.

So far, I haven't had any audio failures, playing from the Id.  Before, it was dying when the TV screen went blank (if I had the TV on).  It looks promising.

I wrote up the second problem here:

In that thread there is a link to a similar problem on the Apple forum.
