Funtionality of 30 day trial edition of MJ8
« on: January 23, 2003, 08:17:22 am »

I'm a beginner so bear with me...
I want to rip tracks from my CDs and save them as MP3 files that can be copied to my MP3 player.
MJ8 appears to be what I need.
However, I can't save the CD tracks as .mp3 files.
I don't have the MP3 encoder that's talked about in Help
I've tried to download the MP3 plugin but no success.
Should I be able to the download?
Is there some other way to create MP3 files from my CD tracks?

You should be able to download the encoder from the encoder page. Try right-click and save as... to your desktop. Also try to re-boot the box. Sometimes this helps with MJ for reasons that are as mysterious as the reason I get up at 3:30am every morning.

Try and click on this link first and see if it fires up the package installer for MJ.

Thanks for this but I'm still struggling.
I've downloaded something (enc-mp3.mjp  218 bytes only) and saved it to my desktop.
How do I integrate it (if it is the encoder) with MJ8 to save my ripped CD files as mp3 files.
I've tried to link to it as en 'external encoder' but no joy.
Should I uninstall MJ8 and download the whole thing again in the hope of getting it in one piece?

you must have rightclicked and saved to the drive

you can open it up with a text editor.

it is to tell the website how to install it's self

it is not the encoder

It should have been executed automatically, but some browsers won't do that.  Try using IE to download any plug-ins.

You can also just execute the mjp file from Windows Explorer by clicking on it.

Here's a little more detail:

Thanks for this.
Using the shortcut now on my desktop, I start the download then get 'MJ Reader failed to connect to a server'.
I've downloaded without problems before so I don't think it is the version of IE or my firewall set-up.
Any other possibilities?

Other than a firewall or network problem, no.  Did you try the link above?
