MC23: Library Backup not possible
« on: January 02, 2018, 07:56:05 am »

Just updated from MC 20 to MediaCenter.23.0.091-x64. The library import worked fine, but when trying to make a new backup via "File -> Library -> Back Up Library" I get only a turning wheel (for hours), MC can only be killed with task manager.
The same happens when going the way from "Playing Now -> Playing from Main Library -> Main Library -> Back Up Library".

OS is Windows 8.0 64bit

Any suggestions how to proceed?
As many adjustments and new imports have already been made in MC23 it would be nice not to loose them...

working fine here....have you rebooted after your install....MC may be busy rebuilding your thumbnails, this could take awhile depending on size.

well lets wait for a guru to jump in and see what they think. 70 MB  what type of files and how many cd's are in your collection?

MC didn't have probs up to now with such an amount, that's why I'm using it :-)

No there should be no problems, you may have to unistall and then reinstall. But wait for Guru support....goodluck

Have a look at this, it was posted else where by ADMIN Jim....it could be your problem

Check the location of the backup and make sure the directory is writable.

Couple of ideas to try:
1. Try running MC as an administrator (Right-click on the icon).
2. Check that the file location for library backups (Options==> File Locations==> Program Files==> Library Backups) exists, and is writable by your user.
3. Check whether MC20 can backup correctly.
4. Try the x32 version of MC. It's possible, but unlikely that x64 could be interfering somehow....

ok, tried a couple of things:

- Defender is deactivated, directory settings in my AV didn't help
- as my user has admin rights with win default settings I didn't go into folder security settings
- backup of MC20 had some errors, but the last one was saved successfully

I was able to save a library between some steps (reinstall MC23 and replacing C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Roaming\J River\Media Center 23\ with a backup) - I'm pretty sure this is not recommended but it worked

But some tests with backup & restore of the library still gave me the turning wheel...

Now MC23 32bit is running and saving & restore works without errors or never ending wheels

Thx to All !!

PS: some details still would be nice to be improved, but this is gonna be a new topic.... (where?)
