Setting Compilation Tag to 0 - does not update file
« on: August 16, 2018, 05:29:36 am »

I have around 1'000 files that erroneously have the compilation tag set to "1". Now I have been trying to remove the content of the compilation tag (i.e. delete the "1") for those files. The operation worked, the files are now no longer listed as having a compilation tag of "1". However the operation was finished in less than a second and JRiver has not written any updates to the files on disk.
Am I doing something wrong, or is this by design (or a bug)?
Thanks

Did you try using Update tags (from library) via right clicking on the files > Library Tools > Update tags (from library)?

Yes, I tried that. Unfortunately it did not help. It is as if JRiver does not update the tag filed on disk for compilation.
Also, when I sync my local music array with the NAS, no files on the array are identified as changed.

MC doesn't have a tag called Compilation but itunes audio files do. In MC the tag Mix Album is automatically set for albums with multiple artists (compilations). Check those values are correct and you can blitz the compilation tag altogether. If that is too drastic you could check in Tools>Options>Libraries >Manage library fields whether the version of the Compilation Tag in your system is editable or not, if it is check that save in files is checked.

Thanks, swiv3d!
Indeed I can only see the Compilation filed if I choose "Show all fields (including hidden fields)". "Save in file tags (when possible)" was not checked for the Compilation field.
How would I go about removing the Compilation field for all my files? I don't touch iTunes with a stick.

You could select files and enter nothing in the tag field that you don't want.

Try a few before you do very many.

Thanks, Jim, that's what I did. Now delete the Field from "Library Fields"?

You can delete it or just leave it - it isn't going to make much of a difference either way.
