How do you move your library to a different drive
« on: June 08, 2003, 04:34:59 am »

I am running out of room on my C drive and want to move my library to my F drive.

How do I do this?

I am running Windows XP

Select your directory and use XP's 'Move' to the new location. Works fine, but takes a while if you have large amount of files.

Once complete, point MC at new location to re-import files. (It will not know where they are otherwise)

Not to confuse things, but:
Would it not be better to move them from within MC9?
(Right click --> Library Tools --> Move/Copy Disk Files)

I imagine this could prevent re-importing snd perhaps preserve any track info kept in the MC database rather than in the file tags?

Back up your library first and you will not have any problems. XP is probably more adept at this then MC. It is one of its functions as an OS afterall.

But then again, there are some things I don't want MC to do. This is one of them. If a mistaken Rename and move is choosen you are screwed.

To Move Files I Prefer using the Rename Function

It does have its problems and if a dup is found and you chouse not to over write you need to reimport because MC will drop it out of the Library
