Category/Nesting/Grouping of items
« on: June 25, 2019, 12:33:17 am »

At the moment you have a very nice Categories mechanism for TV Series … [Series]->[Season] … each level having its own cover art that are stored in [Cover Art] respective folders. Under this its nice to browse in both standard and theatre view.

Can this be done for Movies and Audio … even better - can this be totally customized

For example if I choose [Album]->[Disk#] … Album cover art already exists … but Disk# has none, so MC creates folder in [Cover Art] folder just for this allowing users to "Add from file" the images for disk

Or [Album]->[Set#] for ppl with albums that consist of  several disk with distinct covers

Or [Artist]->[Album] with user able to choose artist images

Or [Movie Set]->[Name] with user able to choose movie set images

All of this implemented similar to TV Series way (2 level of nesting is more than enough imo)

I know its not easy … but wouldn't it be great :)

Artist images are already supported, so you can see as Artist thumbnail, double click it, and see the Album thumbnails. That works in Standard and Theatre Views.

I will be interested to hear the answer about the other ideas. There are some workarounds of course, and some work well, but others don't.

Oh, I'm not sure about the two levels being enough. Audio "Set > Album > Disc > Track" would be four levels, or three levels of nesting, as compared to TV Show "Series > Season > Episodes" being two levels of nesting and three levels overall. But I guess four levels may be an exception, though some classical sets would hit four levels, as do some Blu-ray sets, with "Set > Movie > Main and supplementary discs > videos", or just TV Shows with "Set > Series > Season > Episodes".

Lol ... I was trying to entice developers to do 2 levels of nesting (3 level overall) instead of them dismissing the idea ... since they already have its implementation for TV Series

All needed to be done is port it to Audio and Video ... and implement management of covers for nested tags inside Cover Art folder
