UHD ISO not in 4k
« on: August 28, 2020, 02:38:38 pm »

I watch lots of UHD mkv in HDR using MadVr with no issue. I have ripped a couple of UHD's to an ISO and they will play but not in 4k, any ideas

Are you using MC's Red October HQ?

Try a google search for HDR and JRiver.

When you say not in 4K ... what did you mean? ... it plays in 1080p?

if thats the case ... i can only think of 2 scenarios this can happen

1. you ripped wrong disc (some UHD titles have 2 disc ... one UHD ... one HD ... you could have ripped wrong disc)

2. you have profile in JRiver MadVR (JRiver uses separate copy of MadVR) that outputs 4K in 1080p

A third scenario I have seen is when you have the resolution set to 3820x2160 and have Windows scaling set to 200%. There have been times when I've seen madVR rescale to 1080p with this setting. During playback of a movie, you can press Ctrl + J to get the madVR stats.

I have seen something similar ... playing 1080p content ... and outputting 1080p (only do this for 3D) ... MadVR reported scaling 1080p by percentage of DPI (consuming hips of resources) ... but in the end TV still got 1080p (using TV info button to see what it’s receiving) ... something in Windows must have scaled back everything that MadVR did.

So Ctr+J might not be a good indicator of what TV is actually receiving.

That’s why I keep MC DPI at 100%.
