Copy/paste tags
« on: February 14, 2021, 08:12:16 pm »

Copy/paste tags seems to be broken.
- Paste offers all tags, not just those with values.
- After selecting the desired tags to paste, an error says we must select only one tag.

I think the problem was introduced somewhere around 27.0.61.

I can't reproduce that.  Paste shows me what tags are filled, and doing the paste seems to be working.

Any other tips to reproduce?  Anyone else?  Thanks.

100% repeatable for me.

1) select a file
2) ctrl+C
3) select a different file
4) ctrl+shift+V
5) screenshot shows what happens

What view are you copying from?  How many files are you picking?  I still can't reproduce.

There's a m_bLimitToOneField field that if set to true will show that message.  But I'm not seeing it get set.

Thanks.

Problem exists I think in all views. I confirmed in MC file explorer, paned view, and playing now.
Seems to occur for any number of files, including the simplest case of copy/paste from/to the same single file.
I reinstalled 27.0.66 just to make sure nothing corrupt on my end. Problem still exists.

If you copy plain text to the clipboard, you'll get that message.

Make sure you're actually copying files in Media Center.  Right-click > Copy to be sure.

Confirmed right-click copy behaves same as ctrl-C.

Found another very strange symptom.
1) ctrl+C one file
2) ctrl+shift+V back to the same file, this time selecting to paste only the single tag "Name".
3) into [Name] is pasted the headings on the columns for that view.

Matt, I can confirm something else is going on with comox.

I tested and all the methods of copy/paste tags work as they should, with the appropriate dialogs appearing in the appropriate circumstances.

Comox, I wonder if you are running some nifty clipboard manager utility in the background. Please check. I also wonder if you have a sticky shift or ctrl key; this can happen because of Windows accessibility settings, and mouse software (logitech sometimes does this).

I also suggest rebooting your computer, and if the problem persists, post a video showing your last example. Because doing a copy/paste to the same file in MC is illegal and throws a dialog box complaining about it, which you claim is not happening.

Thanks wer, good suggestions.

I was unable to reproduce problem on a different system, so something is broken with Windows copy on my main system. It seems only plain text is copied onto the clipboard.

So far have tried unsuccessfully
1) restarted Windows
2) update Logitech Options driver software
3) turned off Windows clipboard history and sync features
4) killed background processes that might hook keyboard

Will keep digging. Suggestions appreciated.

Try uninstalling Logitech software.

Good guess, wer.

I've been a computer enthusiast for 40 years and today was the first time I can remember being bitten by malware.

Full scan plus offline scan by Microsoft Defender did not find any problems.

Full scan by Malwarebytes found and quarantined 2 threats:
  C:\ProgramData\AMD Driver\taskshell.exe (classified as Trojan.ClipBanker)
  C:\Users\Me\AppData\Roaming\HWMonitor\vlc.exe (classified as Backdoor.Bot)

Problem solved.

Google doesn't provide any clues about where these came from or what they do.

Sorry for wasting your time.

It's possible those are false positives.
