WMP path
« on: January 12, 2003, 10:09:17 am »

I get an error message when trying to start radio stations that says that Windows Media Player cannot open...may need to reboot and complete install...veryify that path and filename are correct.

WMP works fine all by itself, but I have re-installed MJ8 and WMP a few times and I'm not sure they're connected anymore. How do I verify the path and filename in MJ8?

You can't. Media Jukebox doesn't look for WMP's path. To play WMP's files, MJ tries to create WMP control. If it fails MJ will give the warning.

Please let us know what version MJ, WMP and OS you have.

I'm using MJ8 3.0.393, WMP 8.00.00.487 & WinXP Pro.

Now that you mention it, my WMP version looked old so I DL'd and installed v. 9.00.00.2980.

I now get a different error message - that the version of WMP can't be determined and an invitation to dl the latest version.

This is the same problem I'm having when I try to listen to Windows Media  files or radio stations.  (I have Windows Media Player Version 9), as I mentioned in anotehr post.

I hope there is a fix for this, as it is holding me back from purchasing Media Jukebox.

We're not waiting for you to buy it before we fix this.

Microsoft did not release a development kit until last week, the same day that they released WMP9.

We've requested it, but Microsoft seems to find it troublesome to process requests from companies they consider competitors.

I'm having the same problem with WMP 8, not 9.

To expand on what I said above, we will not take a hard look at any WMP problems right now because there are too many variables, with people using WMP7, 8, 9beta, and 9.  Some of the problems we hear about may simply be Microsoft's.

It will be a lot easier to sort out the problems once we have the SDK from Microsoft, so we're going to wait.
