Icons and "Warm Fuzzies"

JRiver:

I'm the last one to lay claim to any artistic talent - but I do know what gives me a warm fuzzy.  Would it be presumptuous of me to suggest that you start a contest and collect votes for the best icons to be used in MC?  Not that you'd have to follow the popular vote, but it might help to do a sort of "focus group" to see what the opinons are.  I'd also bet that there are some pretty great artists that would be willing to make some submissions.

If anyone's interested in my $0.005, my comment for the new MC icon:  What *IS* it?  It looks terrible in the systray because of the common blue backgrounds.  It's not much better on the desktop and the window frame.

Is it my imagination (maybe so), or are many of the icons of  lower visual (i.e. granular) quality than I'm used to?

Nonetheless, I think it's great that MC is getting this facelift.  I'd imagine Microsoft spends MILLIONS on the presentation layer!

Yeah, I agree.
The icons could do with a facelift.

I alsofind the new MJ icon to blend in a LOT with my systray colours. Greys and blues are too much like system window colours.

It needs a more definitive colour.

Bright colours are good as music is a bright cheerful happy thing and the icon should represent that by also being full of life and colour.

That depends on whose music you might be listening to... :) ...off the top of my head, a couple of albums by Diamanda Galas come to mind...or even The Wall by Pink Floyd is not something I'd describe as bright, cheerful and happy... :-[

Yeah, I have to agree here. The logo is kind of neat, and it looks good, but then again, it's got a lot of room to be displayed in and the detail shows through. It's not translating too well into icon form. Especially in the system tray. Especially if you're using a blue taskbar, as is XP's default. It just looks like a kind-of ill-defined white square.

Hey Doof - this is OT,

Instead of using Aim and MSN you should just sign up for Trillian - it's sweet :), esp. the Pro version

I've tried Trillian and I just didn't like the interface. I much prefer MSN's interface. I actually only had AIM installed because of one friend, and I don't think she even uses it anymore, so I may just uninstall it.

Guys,
We'll sort out the icon issue before we release MC. We do like to hear your comments.

Doof and Nila, I owe you a t-shirt each. Please see the last post in this thread:

There's also Gaim, which has a much less annoying interface than Trillian and will also connect to all IM services, although it is a bigger download.

http://gaim.sourceforge.net/

And of course, there are various Jabber clients that will work with all services.

Aww,
I'm touched.
I dont visit the v8 forum as much any more because it's hard to answer questions about software I'm not using.
Things changed so much between v8 and v9 that I give advice and find the setup doesn't apply to v8 so I just confuse them.

Thanks :) !!

Hi Doc,
I'm a regular lurker on this forum, but I do pipe up when necessary. I do a lot of the marketing stuff here at JRiver.

Hey, thanks for the nomination (whoever it was). I don't really feel like I've been too much help lately, though. I know I was here all the time for the 7.2-8 days, but not so much lately.
