two media -> one or two libraries ?
« on: February 26, 2003, 10:22:16 am »

I asked myself this question and I choice to set two libraries: one for my audio library, another one for my photo library. There are two reasons for that:

- I think MC could take more time to start with a bigger library

- I prefer not to mix photo custom fields and audio custom fields and I discovered that MC manage a set of custom fields per library. May be it could manage also a set per media ?

Salut michel,

no clear answer. I personaly prefer to use separates libraries for the same reasons as you discovered: I don't use the same set of fields for music, videos and photos.

Don't know about the impact on performances if you mix 10000 songs with 25000 pictures and some videos ?

Le build de ce soir tu permit vues differentes ("sticky views") pour images et musiques.

Sympa, Anytime you like, je suis prêt !

As for "sticky views" that's a great addition but unfortunately it does not work for me. I don't understand. Well it's on the machine @work and I only did a quick test, I'll try  @home tonight.

Have a nice day Jim,

Michel,

I've just played with sticky views under XP and I must say that's a great plus for MC.

I've set up different views for Audio, Images and Video. It looks like we'll be able to manage them all in
one library !

for Audio I displayed name - Artist - track# - Composer - Duration - Album - bitrate - number play
for Photos I displayed name - Album - date - location - peoples - occasion - versions

(peoples, location, occasion and versions) are custom fields I created for images

The nice thing is that  it's also possible to memorize list or thumbnail views for each view scheme.
That's great to have for example Artist/ALbum in detail view and Decade/Album in thumbnail view.

looks like I'm going to dig a bit deeper !

As for speed I tested with 8000 audio files and about 7600 pictures (1/2 of them 6Mpix jpegs ~2 Megs each)
Went quite well once the thumbnails were created.
