Unable to use remote control plugin
« on: December 02, 2002, 11:34:48 am »

Hi,

I am using Media Center 9 beta on Windows 2000 and am trying to get Glissando to work with it but am unable to. I installed the web remote plugin and started the server, changed the port to 8080. From the same machine, I launched Glissando (to test that it at least works from the same machine before I try from a remote machine) - I got a "Testing Network Connection..." message and it stays there forever. I have to kill that message which terminates Glissando.

Does glissando work with Media Center 9? Does MC 9 plan to have better web control support than what already is?

thanks,
Osho

Please check the glissando instructions.  That error sounds familiar.  You may have missed a step.

I checked with Glissando instructions twice already. I had it got working previously with Media Jukebox 8.0 so I don't think I am missing something obvious.

I examined the error log in the Media Server and this is what I see (I have removed the timestamps). When I launch Glissando, I see the messages starting with "received a connection" in Media Server Log.

sharer starting
Initializing server.
Server initiazlied
sharer ready to accept connections
Started auto response thread on port 5556
received a connection
ready for another connection
private sharing thread started
expected GET
read_http_request failed: -1

It seems that Media Server did get a connection but somehow http request failed.

If you want further details, please ask.

Media Server doesn't work with WebRemote.  And if they are running on the same port, that will cause one to fail.

I have set up now so that media server used a different port than the one for Glissando. Now, Glissando starts and simply says Unable to connect to Media Jukebox.

Any tips on debugging this problem?

Try connecting to webremote from a browser.

machine.mynetwork.com:8080, for example

or

199.242.131.157:8080

?

I did some more experiments:

1) If I do http://192.168.0.2 from my web browser; I see the text based web remote control with links for Play | Pause, Stop,  etc...  In this case I can pause, stop music, browse through my collection. play new songs etc. fine through a browser.

2) If I do http://192.168.0.2:8080, I get "page not found" error.

3) If I do http://192.168.0.2:80, I get the same menu as in cast (1) and I can remotely control media jukebox fine.

4) I try to connecto to Media Jukebox through Glissando, with Glissando configuration set to port 8080. Glissando immediately says that no connection found.

5) I try to connect to Media Jukebox through Glissando, with Glissando configuration set to port 80. Glissando displays a message saying "Trying to connect to Media Jukebox" and stays that way forever.

So,  I can not get Glissando to work but web based remote control works fine.

Based on this, I presume that the web remote control is listening on port 80 and not 8080. I tried to change it through Media Jukebox's Tools->Plugins->Interface->Web but I did not find any place there where I can configure it. Where can I change what port web remote plugin is listening to?

I read through Glissando installation file and it says that Flash has problem connecting at ports smaller than 1024.

thanks,

That 1 and 3 work the same is expected.  The first is the IP address without the 80.  It defaults to 80.

It looks like webremote is working. But it's running on 80, not on 8080.

Is it the version that came with Glissando?  It must be.

There are two different versions of int_Webremote.dll files that I tried -

- one that comes from media jukebox's web site when I download the plugin, this one is dated 09/11/2002.

- the other is the one that comes with Glissando. I tried both of them. For , this one is dated 09/03/2002.

For both, I get exact same experience: i.e., http://192.168.0.2:80 works but http://192.168.0.2:8080 does not.

I had Glissando version working with MJ 8.

You can change the webremote port by starting the plug in, then expanding "plug ins" in the navigation tree, selecting "web remote" and changing the port in the right window.

Thanks RemyJ. Your tip worked. Now Glissando works just fine.
