Problems Importing Files
« on: December 30, 2002, 03:28:42 pm »

I recently upgraded from MJ vs. 7 to 8.0.388.  I am having difficulty importing my files over my home network.  I have isolated the trouble to a single directory that has about 2000 files in it -- with no subdirectories.

The rest of the files (about 4000) import fine, but they are grouped in subdirectories with about 12 files each.

The large directory with 2000 files in it imports VERY slowly, and seems to hang the system.  I have split this into two directories of 1000 each -- same result.

I guess I could split these further into groups of 12, but it would be very time consuming.  Any suggestions???

Thanks in advance.

Take the time to split them and import one at a time.

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, this is a last resort.  It is particularly painful, though as this large directory is my download directory from p2p sites like kazaa (I think you just specify one directory location if I am not mistaken -- i.e., Kazaa won't create new directories from artist/album names).

Am I the only one who has seen this in version 8 (Version 7 didn't do this)?  Any other workarounds?  Any hope to be addressed in future release?

JimH - are you serious?!

emcubed - have you tried the technique I suggested in the 'Problem importing files into MJ' thread? This works for me on folders that won't import properly.

JimH --

Sure I'm serious -- it crashes the machine.  Maybe I'm the only one importing a large directory over a network  ... ??

I have been through all of the import threads.  Nothing else seems to work here.

So I guess I will split the directory as you suggested.  Thanks for the advice.
